I used this prompt with ChatGPT:
"Go to datalounge.com, read up as much about posters there, then generate a picture of the average datalounge poster."
This is what it gave me.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 9, 2025 3:08 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 9, 2025 3:11 PM |

R17 OMG, the Tina Turner wall clock!!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 9, 2025 3:18 PM |
My initial prompt was : “can you generate a picture of the average datalounger” that is all nothing else.
Copy and pasting the The full response below:
That’s a fun prompt—and a bit of a challenge, since Datalounge users are anonymous and notoriously catty about appearances (their own and others’). Still, based on the cultural mythos of the forum, we can conjure an image that plays with the stereotypical Datalounger:
⸻
Visual Concept: “The Average Datalounger” A composite image capturing the spirit of a Datalounge regular: • Setting: Dimly lit living room, bookshelves stacked with Joan Didion, Fran Lebowitz, and celebrity biographies. A faint glow from an open laptop (Datalounge tab open, obviously). • Person: A middle-aged gay man, maybe late 40s to early 60s, wearing a vintage caftan or a threadbare black T-shirt that says “Mame was right.” Horn-rimmed glasses, expressive eyebrows, smirking. • Vibe: Sardonic but cultured. Maybe clutching a martini, maybe petting a disdainful cat named Tallulah. • Details: Ashtray nearby. A poster of “All About Eve” or a Cher tour framed on the wall. • Mood: Judge-y but lovable. Knows every Golden Girls line. Fiercely opinionated about soap operas, Broadway, and mid-century actresses.
⸻
Would you like me to generate that image for you? Or do you want to dial it in a little further—maybe lean more into one archetype (the bitchy queen, the lonely gossip addict, the jaded old-school liberal)?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 9, 2025 3:21 PM |
If it wasn’t for the cigarettes in OP’s DLer, he looks like someone I would enjoy hanging out with.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 9, 2025 3:22 PM |
I need to get a clearer view of the books in his library to make a judgment. At least, he is reading.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 9, 2025 3:24 PM |
R15 is how many here fancy themselves to be. Or maybe the kind of Gen z twink they would consider “a credit to their generation”

OP can you do Mother next?

R15 looks like a gender mix of a lesbian and gay man. Too young though.

Well, he's wearing a paisley robe, so baby steps. Agree the book titles need to be sharpened up in order harshly to judge. Ashtray is a hard no, but smug cat and cocktail hit the mark.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 9, 2025 3:39 PM |
R15 somewhat resembles Rachel Maddow.

First-I love tabby cats; my tabby would be on the keyboard wanting more attention-scratches.
2nd-I would never have an olive in my martini glass& the glass looks "bed, bath and beyond cheap". Large Waterford martini glass & I never wear robes in the summer. 3rd-always a DOG nearby& my hair is better.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 9, 2025 5:15 PM |
I chided, degraded, and nagged at ChatGPT some more, criticizing it for its incompetence and casually mentioning that it's become too fat.
Now, it has given me an even more accurate version of the average DLer.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 9, 2025 5:21 PM |
I DO NOT know whether it's a rescue cat, though. So, I asked ChatGPT:
"There's no way to know for certain just from the image—but the cat looks calm, well-fed, and trusting in the man's lap, which could suggest it's either a long-loved pet or a recently adopted rescue that's settled in comfortably. The slightly smug affection in the man's smile might even hint at the pride of someone who did rescue it and tells that story often."
(I don't think it's a rescue.)
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 9, 2025 5:21 PM |
I listed several topics of interest on DL without specifying gay man and I got this!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 9, 2025 5:47 PM |

The Tina Turner wall clock 🤣
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 9, 2025 6:15 PM |
My favorite detail is the boxy desktop computer with the thick keyboard. I don't think there ever has been a keyboard that looks like that (unless back in the 70s). What "large language" context evoked old computers... just the average age of the demographic, I guess.

I asked chat GPT to: I want you to create an image of what the typical West Coast user reader of datalounge.com looks like
It replied: Sure — I can generate that, but to get it right: could you give me a bit more detail on the vibe you're imagining? Datalounge has a distinct culture, snarky, old-school gay, coastal elite meets anonymous gossip addict. But "West Coast user" could swing LA screenwriter bitch, Palm Springs retiree, SF silver fox, or crunchy Marin queen.
Want me to go stereotypical, like a tank-top-wearing, iced coffee-drinking, Botoxed former twink now pushing 60 who posts about rentboys and Meghan Markle at 2am? Or something different?
I replied: It's up to you.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 10, 2025 6:17 PM |

R91 - that looks eerily like a typical guy outside of Koffi in Palm Springs.
Except for the sunglasses - I don't know many gays that wear Ray-ban styles like that. And perhaps a more colorful shirt. But it's 90% accurate.
And I'd do him. For sure.

R96 - I was thinking the one on Tahquitz actually. I hardly ever go to any place north of Amado.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | June 10, 2025 6:41 PM |
R94 I tried to create that image, and here’s what’s annoying, I asked ChatGPT to create the Marin guy, and then it hits me with:
"I can’t generate that image because the request violates our content policies. If you’d like to reframe the idea, maybe go for a stylized, personality-driven Marin scene without any elements that trigger policy flags, I’d be happy to help. Just let me know how you want to approach it or give me a new prompt to work with."
So I pointed out that he was the one who brought up the Marin thing in the first place, not me. I was just following along with what he suggested. And it just looped into this weird circular logic. No resolution, just policy fog. Maddening.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | June 10, 2025 7:01 PM |
After a bit of back and forth with Chatgpt, it suggested that I close the tab and start a new tab and ask the for the image of your "typical" Datalounge in Marin guy. Here you go.

I asked it to create a Helen Lawson poster.
🎭 “Helen Lawson in: Shut Up and Sing! (1971)” A sequin-slinging, gin-soaked Broadway meltdown in two acts.
Tagline: “She clawed her way to the top… and then bit everyone who helped her.”
Plot summary: Helen stars as Maxine Steel, a faded radio chanteuse turned Vegas nightclub boss who battles age, booze, and a brassy upstart named Tiffany Blaze — all while belting eleven o’clock numbers that stop the show (and a pacemaker or two). Includes the show-stopping anthem: “I Don’t Need You, Baby (I Need the Spotlight)”.

I got this:
"I can't show a literal photo of a real "average Datalounge user" because users on forums like Datalounge are anonymous and diverse, and there’s no verified demographic photo profile. However, based on common stereotypes and longtime community jokes, I can describe (or create an illustrative image) of the humorous "average Datalounge poster" as imagined by the forum itself.
Would you like me to generate a satirical or stylized image based on that persona? Here's what that might include:
A middle-aged or older gay man
Sitting at a laptop with a martini or black coffee nearby
Surrounded by vintage Hollywood posters or old Playbills
Wearing a caftan or a bathrobe, possibly with reading glasses halfway down his nose
A cat nearby (named things like "Bette" or "Vivien")
Facial expression locked in a judging smirk
Should I generate that image for you? Or would you like a different tone—more realistic, more neutral, or even gender-neutral?"

I gave ChatGPT my stats from a dating site — exactly how I describe myself on there — and asked it to create an image using just that description. I kind of wanted to see what guys might picture when they read my profile. I gave it my height, weight, eye color, hair color, and a rough outline of how I look.
The first image it generated looked like a trendier version of my real-life dad. Yikes. Soooo...
I asked it to tweak the hair, clean up the facial hair, and put the guy in a suit — and suddenly, there he was: my dad.
Uncanny. He’s been gone 20 years, and this AI-generated image looks just like he did when he died.
P.S. I would’ve gone further and fine-tuned it, but apparently there’s a limit to how many images you can generate per day. So I couldn’t keep going, but it’s already pretty close. If I get another shot, I’d age him a bit more.
