Can we take a moment to appreciate Margo Martindale in Paris, je t'aime
The film came out in 2006 and was a collection of 18 short films set in the different arrondissements/districts of Paris.
There were lots of established directors - The Coen Brothers, Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven, Alfonso Cuarón, Walter Salles - and lots of big name actors - Natalie Portman, Steve Buscemi, Gena Rowlands, Juliette Binoche and the late Gaspard Ulliel.
Some of the films were amazing, some quite dull. The 19th arrondissement film from Oliver Schmitz is also very memorable.
The final of the 18 films was written by Alexander Payne and starred Margo Martindale set around the 14th arrondissement.
Watching it in an art cinema the audience were a bit restless by that point and laughed a lot when 14 started, but by the time the credits rolled there was silence, except for a bit of sniffing. Amazing writing and an amazing performance from Margo.

One of my favorite shorts of all time.a masterful manipulation of the audiences prejudices against fat flyover American tourists.
Datalounge would probably take umbrage with the pro-Frau propaganda

Yes, Constantine Papadopolous, aka Alexander Payne, was really at his peak then. Too bad about the plagiarism accusations surrounding his industry comeback, The Holdovers. At least Da’Vine got her Oscar. Did he jet back to Greece after his second divorce or is he still lurking in Topanga Canyon?

It's a lovely performance and short film. It's an interesting piece about belonging for anyone who has ever changed countries or moved somewhere he thought he might belong,

The film sums up the feeling of travelling alone perfectly.
There is a sense of sadness, anxiety, loneliness that you carry around but also a sense of joy when you get to appreciate the beauty of a 900 year old church or a beautiful sunset that you travelled thousands of miles to see.
It wasn't really the case back in 2006 that you could just take a photo and share it with people instantly which I do now. But that feeling of wanting to share the experience is there.
