I personally think highly intelligent, innovative people who create things and then experience some early success build a shroud of narcissism where they simply believe they are immune from death. This man was so fucking sexy.

Sexy, and essentially a murderer.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 8, 2025 11:19 AM |
He's very small now.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 8, 2025 11:31 AM |
Death wishes are not sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 8, 2025 11:32 AM |
I really enjoyed the documentary, OP, and felt it could have been fleshed out even more. I really appreciated hearing from the Coast Guard investigators, all of whom were highly intelligent and compassionate and would have liked to have seen more from them.
Rush was handsome but arrogance only goes so far.
(If anyone else is intrigued, It’s on HBO or Max, or HBO Max or whatever it’s called today.)

Total asshole and dumbass. Killed his son and several others because of his dumbassery
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 8, 2025 12:37 PM |
He killed his son, r5?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 8, 2025 12:46 PM |
Sorry, it was the other rich guy's son on board. In any case, the kid was 19. Five people, including himself, died because of his dumbassery.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 8, 2025 12:49 PM |
They're all squished R7.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 8, 2025 1:03 PM |
They actually did not get squished in any visual or observable way. They were instantly vaporised.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 8, 2025 1:09 PM |
As deaths go, implosion at that depth is up there with general anaesthesia and CO poisoning. Happens so fast, your brain doesn't even have time to process what's happening. I'm just glad we don't have any footage of it.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 8, 2025 1:10 PM |
I'm crushing your head.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 8, 2025 1:13 PM |
Squished/vaporised = same result R9. Poof and they're gone. There one second and gone the next.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 8, 2025 1:15 PM |
But they knew something was wrong, no?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 8, 2025 1:36 PM |
I assume they would have, R13, if they heard creaking, etc. I can’t imagine they weren’t all stressed and panicked to varying degrees.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 8, 2025 1:45 PM |
I agree with your premise, OP, but I'm not sure this guy fits it. He was born well-off. I think he was reasonably bright but no genius (and didn't have a doctorate or even a masters in a relevant technical field, I believe). He had 'early success" mostly in just being a handsome, engaging guy who could convince investors to dump money in. His "innovation" was a material that was not fit for the purpose, and he was so committed to using it that he didn't have the balls to walk away. He had a shroud of narcissism certainly, but I don't think it arose from high intelligence or true success.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 8, 2025 1:46 PM |
The most disquieting part of the documentary was Josh Gates realizing that Rush was dangerous and cancelling the episode because of so many obvious dangers and Rush’s willingness to ignore them. I just wonder if his voice might have been enough to suspend the operation if he had made a loud enough stink about it. I think he’s high profile enough.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 8, 2025 1:52 PM |
Which doc are you watching, OP? The Netflix doc hasn’t been released yet.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 8, 2025 1:54 PM |
So basically you turn to juice in less than a second.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 8, 2025 2:14 PM |
MUCH less than a second R19.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 8, 2025 2:16 PM |
Sexy like the handsome 1980’s actor who put a gun loaded with blanks to his head. Extremely Dead and only handsome on video.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 8, 2025 2:16 PM |
I watched this mortician on YouTube talk about the bodies. She speculated that nothing would have been found, and that claims of finding human remains would have been to appease - mostly - the media.

The greater crime was that senile old bitch throwing that giant diamond in the ocean!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 8, 2025 3:31 PM |
Never understood the thrill of this highly risky venture to see an old cruise ship. Even a Carnival Cruise would be more fun.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 8, 2025 3:37 PM |
Stockton Rush’s widow is the great-great granddaughter of Ida and Isadore Strauss.
Putting the irony aside, I always thought it was kind of strange that a descendant of 2 of the victims apparently had no issue with her husband using the disaster as a moneymaking venture to entertain rich tourists.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 8, 2025 3:50 PM |
Gracious!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 8, 2025 4:07 PM |
"Even a Carnival Cruise would be more fun."
Seeing a Carnival Cruise on the bottom of the ocean would be even more fun. All those size 52 sweatpants and crocs from the buffet "dining" room...
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 8, 2025 4:45 PM |
A ridiculous person, but yes, he was one hot motherfucker.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 8, 2025 4:45 PM |
Shirtless pics?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 8, 2025 4:50 PM |
I liked the part where they had to sort the human goo from other crushed debris. And the German widow was pretty good too.

“ All those size 52 sweatpants and crocs from the buffet "dining" room...”
The Crocs would all float up to the ocean’s surface! 1000s of Crocs.

Captain Crunch wasn't sexy, what's wrong with you fags?
His recklessness and arrogance make him unattractive as fuck.

[quote]I personally think highly intelligent, innovative people who create things
Yeah, No, he was none of those OP. Intelligent innovators usually seek out criticism and critiques of their work from experts that know what they are talking about, not blow it off like MAGA does calling everyone in their party they disagree with a Rhino. He was warned by many people who build subs and chose to ignore it letting his ego and narcissism rule the day.
A true innovator would ask why from the experts so he can go back and make the idea even better. To give the innovation it's best chance at success. Based on his actions he really didn't care about that. He just wanted a fast track to fame and glory which not only cost him is life, but others as well.

Hack and grifter and murderer.
And I think that's a toupee.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 11, 2025 3:14 AM |
Maybe he was up to his eyeballs in debt and needed to keep the sub company running, and didn't give a shit if there were issues. His wife is a real winner, too. Wonder if she is now being sued by the widow who lost both her husband and son? I hope so.
He even fired someone who brought a potential problem/defect with that sub, too. Was she ever right!
Cunt deserved to die in that macabre graveyard. Shame the fish didn't get anything to eat.

There's also a Netflix doc that just came out.
