Newsom says Trump administration will send 2,000 National Guard troops to L.A. over ICE protests...

President Trump signed a memo late on Saturday ordering 2,000 National Guard members to be deployed in Los Angeles County after federal immigration agents in riot gear squared off with hundreds of protesters for a second consecutive day, the White House press secretary said.
Gov. Gavin Newsom confirmed the call-up. “The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers,” he said in a statement. “That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.”

He's sending in the national guard, but I don't think he's invoked the insurrection act.

Trump's Reichstag Fire
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 8, 2025 1:56 AM |
OK, it seems he has invoked the insurrection act. My apologies.

LA had a nice ass but it couldn’t live forever.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 8, 2025 1:58 AM |
If anybody know about insurrection, it is Trump, the insurrectionist president.
Oh, thanks Merrick Garland for dereliction of duty as US attorney general and contributing to the destruction of our democracy.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 8, 2025 2:09 AM |
Expect this to happen to every protest going forward. Using federal goons in Portland during the 2020 protests was a test run.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 8, 2025 2:17 AM |
I guess all those third-party voters and non-voters were right! Both parties are exactly alike and no one should feel any pressure to support "the lesser of two evils", huh?

It’s going to be a long, hot summer.

LAPD just released a letter saluting all the peaceful protests today, and asking Angelenos to keep protests peaceful. They also reaffirm their job is to keep the peace. Newsom releases statement that Highway Patrol is out in greater force to maintain peace. Trump overrides Newsom and sends troops into LA, and puts Marines at Camp Pendleton on alert, ready to send into San Diego if needed.
Trump and ICE is creating this ... exactly what they've planned for. Civil War and Martial Law. But "oh the Dems shouldn't be so woke..."

Situation all normal here.

[quote]The Secretary of Defense is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens. This is deranged behavior.
From Governor Newsom tonight.

I thought national guard were under the governance of the states. I could be wrong, but I thought that was the point.

The headline is incorrect. He invoked a different statute.

Is he trying to get California to secede? Is the US economy not in bad enough shape for him without that?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 8, 2025 5:21 AM |
R16 That's the point. Trump is overriding the Governor. Unprecedented and likely illegal.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 8, 2025 5:26 AM |
MAGA hate California because it's the richest state in the country or world, progressive, full of tech, innovation, startups, food, wine, entertainment etc, etc and Trump wants to throw read meat to his base.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 8, 2025 5:29 AM |
He hates every location that’s an economic generator in the US.

Newsom should really stand up to this.

[quote] What they did was create a carve out that meant they get decide, on a case by case basis, action by action, as to whether Trump’s actions on J6 were covered by criminal immunity so they could reach down into Judge Chutkin’s court and stall proceedings for up to 10 months every time the Trump defence challenged on ruling in her court.
R26 Am I correct from my reading of Justice Robert’s majority ruling in Trump vs. US that the Supreme Court’s future interventions are NOT limited to the J6 cases, but rather any other actions of a sitting president that an aggrieved party with standing can argue exceeds the Court’s opinion of the “outer perimeter of official conduct?” It seems likely that is how Trump and his minions interpret that, and Trump is a master of using the judicial system to delay or prevent justice against his actions, case after case after case.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 8, 2025 6:49 AM |
Of course he wouldn’t do it Jan6 but yeah put us all under house arrest. No more Indivisible sponsored protests or else WE will be arrested and sent to Rwanda.

Californians wouldn’t want the restoration of law and order?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 8, 2025 10:46 AM |
^^ What they want is for masked men with no identification or warrants to stop snatching people off the streets and kidnapping them.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 8, 2025 11:00 AM |
As the LAPD itself declared in response, the protests have been peaceful. Barely any pretext at all here. It turns out Stephen Miller was too impatient for a Reichstag fire.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 8, 2025 11:16 AM |
Get ready for undercover right wing "brownshirts" stirring up trouble to justify a fascist crackdown.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 8, 2025 11:21 AM |
A riot in LA could never be a Reichstag Fire. A big part of the country regards California as very distinct from the rest of the U.S., and though they may feel appalled by things like the shoplifting sprees and the homeless camps there, they are not going to feel a patriotic connection to what happens there. A Reichstag Fire would have to be someplace like NYC or DC.

I hope this gives CA the motivation it needs to either carry through with Calexit, or withhold taxes.

[quote] Californians wouldn’t want the restoration of law and order?
California has sufficient State resources to restore law and order. This unrest was deliberately provoked by the White House to distract from the corruption and ineptitude of the federal government. This is an attack on California by the Trump administration.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 8, 2025 3:29 PM |
^^^Trump suggested this week that Russia and Ukraine should just be allowed to "fight it out" because he has zero influence or ability to stop Russian aggression. Trump claimed he could end the war in Ukraine, he is clearly powerless to do so. He is a Russian pawn.
An "insurrection" in California is necessary to overtake that in the news cycle.

Well, I did see a picture of a Home Depot shopping cart that had been set on fire...
A couple hundred protesters chanting and carrying signs does not indicate a breakdown in law and order. Conservative media, as usual, is portraying it as violent and apocalyptic.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 8, 2025 3:57 PM |
R42 It's completely political. Violence in the streets in Philly after the Super Bowl was much, much, much more widespread than the anti-ICE protests yesterday.
