The most significant aspect of these protests is the lack of black citizens. It's been an interesting development. Blacks saying that this isn't their fight. They did the right thing when they voted. Now they won't be shot, which is what this administration wants.

I watched some livestream footage of the protests in downtown and in Compton. The one in Compton was an absolute shitshow, full of nutjobs with Mexico and Palestine flags, arson, lighting cars on fire, and raiding a gas station. The one downtown looked very negligible and uneventful by comparison. For a city as big as LA, though, neither of them had very many people in attendance, which suggests to me that the majority does not find the matter worthy of protest.

This stuff only helps Trump. The majority of Americans want illegal immigrants gone and someone to bring down the hammer on American cities which they see as being out of control. Cracking down on immigration is something that has the full backing of the American public. These protests only embolden Trump to voters as heâs seen as actually doing something that he said he would do that no American president has delivered on, at least not to the extent that itâs being done in front of cameras and making law breakers do the perp walk. This is just a losing issue for Democrats and the left as a whole. Pick your battles for law-abiding âAmericanâ citizens. This is the image problem Democrats have right now.

by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 8, 2025 7:14 PM |
Compton/Paramount incidents are not protests; they are mob takeovers. Thatâs why you see Palestinian and Mexican flags and people throwing objects at people and cars and looting. These people capitalize on any whiff of unrest to engage in violence. The sheriffs will retaliate with less than lethal force and eventually live bullets.
The DTLA incidents are protests against ICE and now Trumpâs activating the National Guard. The City of LA will deem them as unlawful assemblies while the federalized troops will deem them as insurrection. The âauthoritiesâ Will engage first with tear gas and flash bangs. No doubt there are non protesting agitators who seek to escalate the situation into mayhem.
Donât confuse the two types of events. Protestors are exercising their right of dissent. Conversely, thugs gonna thug.

The amount of money that is being spent per detainee is staggering. With all of this deployment, ICE has netted a whopping 118 this week in LA. Then, they have to try them and house and feed them and months later maybe deport them.
Since many of these people are workers, what is the payoff? Weâre paying money we donât have to deport people who are paying taxes, buying things, and providing labor in a tight market.

ICE arrests Tajikistan-born Russian national as a foreign fugitive suspected of being a member of the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization
PHILADELPHIA â U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a Tajikistan-born Russian national who is wanted overseas.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia, in partnership with the FBI, arrested a 39-year-old male, born in Tajikistan and a citizen of Russia, in the early morning hours on May 23, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
âArresting individuals linked to terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda reaffirms our unwavering commitment to safeguard the homeland. Through close collaboration with our outstanding partners at the FBI, we have taken decisive action to make our communities safer and prevent potential threats to the American people,â said ERO Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane. âI commend the dedicated men and women of ICE and the FBI for their tireless efforts and steadfast resolve in protecting this great nation.â
This individual was first encountered at San Ysidro Pedestrian West point of entry in California March 21, 2023, where he was charged as an inadmissible alien under the Immigration and Nationality Act because he didnât have an immigrant visa. He was served a notice to appear before an immigration judge and paroled into the United States.
Earlier this month, Tajikistan officials declared this individual a fugitive, wanted for organization of a criminal community. It is alleged that he is or was a member of Al-Qaeda.
After his arrest, this individual was detained in ICE custody, where he will remain pending removal from the U.S.

Exactly. That's what this has always been about: showing Trump as a big, tough guy, a strong manly man. And yet people (especially men) can't see through all the bullshit.
Trump still is not going after the really big "guns" in illegal immigrants: meat packing plants in the midwest, poultry processing plants in Arkansas and Delaware, agricultural workers in CA's Central Valley and Florida, and construction workers in Texas and Florida. Why isn't he going after them? (1). These illegal immigrants employers are paying off Trump directly. (2) Trump knows damn good and well if he did try to tackle these industries, there would be huge food chain supply issues and soaring prices at the super market.

[bold]Newsom Says California Will Sue[/bold]
Trumpâs order from Saturday is quite broad, as several commentators have noted. It applies nationally, not just to California. It allows Hegseth to use any military unit, not just the Guard. And, it very bluntly states that âprotestsâ or âactions of violenceâ are a âform of rebellion against the authorityâ of the U.S. government if they âdirectly inhibit the execution of the laws.â
Los Angeles is the first place where weâre seeing this applied. Itâs unclear whether the order is legal; Governor Gavin Newsom (D) stated on Sunday night that the state would go to court on Monday to block Trump from federalizing the California Guard without the state's consent.

Did everyone see this interview with Newsom? MSNBC - it's worth watching. He's so angry he's shaking and just catches himself in time to stop himself from saying fucking.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said that President Trump "has created the conditions" surrounding the Los Angeles protests. The governor went on to call Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard "a manufactured crisis," then addressed White House border czar Tom Homan's threats of arrest. "Tom, arrest me. Let's go," Newsom said.
A visibly angry Newsom also said he had spoken to Trump and that Trump had later lied about what was discussed during the conversation. Newsome calls Trump a "stone cold liar". Now Trump wont take Newsom's calls. Newsom says Trump has manufactured this crisis and is making it worse by inciting violence. Newsom demands Trump remove the National Guard and then work together with California to clean up "Trump's mess". Trump initially said he was deploying 2,000 troops under Title 10 authority. Newsom accuses Trump of deliberately destabilizing democracy and of being an authoritarian. Newsom, interviewed at the LA County Emergency Operations Center, is so angry that he narrowly avoids saying "fucking" on live TV.
I know people who moved to Arizona years ago. Theyâre academics, as left-wing as they come. They began having illegals breaking into their back yards and scaring them to death. [BOLD]Good summary of what happened---Newsome is right to be angry at Trump[/bold]
ICE raided several businesses in the middle of LA on a busy afternoon, resulting in the arrest of several dozen people suspected of illegally immigrating.
They used very disruptive tactics, wearing full military gear, driving military vehicles, blocking traffic in multiple areas at the busiest time of the week. They did not alert local officials.
This drew protesters from the neighborhoods, protesting the heavy handed tactics. Protestors told ICE and DHS that they should be ashamed of hiding their faces and their behavior. The LAPD showed up to clear the roads and shot many rounds of "less-than-lethal" rounds (tear gas, pepper spray) at civilians, local neighborhood people, children. These rounds can kill if they hit you in the head.
Some people in cars trying to just get home from work were blocked by the police and sprayed as well.
The next day the LAPD said it was all under control. President Trump used the protest as an excuse to call out the National Guard, without coordination with the Governor, which hasn't been done for over 50 years.
Many see this entire situation as avoidable, and they feel the escalations have been planned in advance by the Trump Administration to create a state of emergency so he can seize more extra-Constitutional powers.

r221 You posted that before.
Have you ever wondered why you donât see ICE targeting easy pickings in southern Texas? What about the meatpacking plants in Arkansas or the agricultural farms in South Dakota? The reasons are twofold: first, Trump understands that such actions would disrupt the food supply; second, many employers who hire undocumented workers have paid Trump bribes to avoid scrutiny.
Trump has identified an "insurrection" as any attempt by the public to prevent the federal government from carrying out its duties. He didn't limit his "proclamation" to Cali but applied it to any state.
At any 62% of the American public want due process to be observed.

You can have them be caught police at routine traffic stops, arrested, sent to trial, and deported or allowed to stay, assigned an immigration lawyer to argue their case and see if they're eligible to stay.
They come here for a higher standard of living and more money but developing countries are not the shithole countries Trump says they are. Brain drain needs to be stopped or this world will never be better. Brains make good societies and if they're leaving their lower means countries for a higher paying job they never will. They won't businesses that create jobs in their communities if they leave. The world needs to be less economically stratified. Donald Trump and Musk need to go. R235 I know what people like you think, the talking points. Your side thinks abolishing ICE will mean we have open borders and that means millions upon millions of Spanish speaking people will arrive pouring into this country and "take over." Donald Trump said the same thing. We will become the "third world" because we imported the "third world." Picture the worst places on earth and America becoming like that.
That's not what this is about. It's about due process of the law and American values,.human rights and dignity being upheld. It's about not having a gestapo like force evict people and detain them directly in violation of their rights. It's about racism, on a street that goes both ways. It's a cultural clash, a language barrier, it's not wanting *those* types of people here.
As Americans we cannot allow racism. Once they clear the immigrants, who's next? The black people? The homosexuals?
It's an ugliness I want no part of. Sensible enforcement of the law doesn't look like this. It doesn't rile up communities and thousands of activists. It doesn't round up people like Nazis did to the Jews. It's a slippery slope down once people have power. All because they're not white enough or they're taking our jobs or they'll force us to speak Spanish, or they breed like roaches. The Nazis compared the Jews to rats. They used propaganda to feed off the fears of people and that's how they could do such sinister things.

R244 - Apparently he was identified as a white supremacist in 2020, but nothing has come of it. Like they need to be paid, right? Of course, people like this are out there.
Later that summer, Christensen, the arson investigator, applied for a warrant to access the cellphone of a suspect linked to a white supremacist group. (The Minnesota Star Tribune is not naming the man because he has not been charged.)
According to the affidavit, the suspect was a member of the Hellâs Angels and a known associate of the Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood, a prison gang based out of Minnesota and Kentucky.
Christensen learned about him from a tipster who sent an email claiming he was Umbrella Man, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit also linked him to a June Stillwater incident. A group of bikers wearing Aryan Cowboy Brotherhood leather vests had been harassing a Muslim woman. The suspect was photographed among them.
District Judge Luis Bartolomei approved a warrant to seize his cellphone information on July 20, 2020. No charges were brought against him.
A number of posts remain on X naming him as the Umbrella Man, including one that has been reposted more than 8,000 times.
Neither the suspect nor Christensen could be reached for comment. The Minneapolis Police Department did not provide comment on the warrant or the investigation.

Some of the most negative attitudes I've seen about migrants comes from other Latinos who either came here legally or who are native-born Americans. They look down on the migrants in the same way that middle class whites look down on poor white trash.

by Anonymous | reply 299 | June 10, 2025 3:31 AM |
R298, I'm so sorry it offends you because I'm able to look at all sides of a problem in an objective manner. That's not the" both sides game," that's just an ability I possess that most seem to be lacking, including you. Until the GOP is renamed the Trump party it is still indeed the GOP. There are Rs who are slowly coming back to the fold whether it be by principle, the fear of losing an election, or the realization Trump is on a downward slide, and they've been manning a sinking ship.
As for the left, you can defend the extremists all you want but the policies they endorse have driven the majority of Americans away from the party. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders scream about capitalism every chance they get. Bernie is non-stop with his socialism bullshit. When you have Senator Warren declaring all profits should go back to the employees at the expense of the shareholders, that's a direct attack on capitalism. So, there's Bernie and Liz, and here's a quote (see below) about four Dem Senators (including Liz) so there's your five.
"Tammy Baldwin, Tom Carper (now former Senator, he left in 2025), Mark Warner and Elizabeth Warren â are banding together to âfundamentally reformâ capitalism. Above all, it suggests growing Democratic unity around pushing corporate America to focus less on shareholders and short-term profits. And it signals an early priority for lawmakers."
Lastly, your little blurb about me embarrassing myself shows you to be a weak debater; someone who needs the old ad hominem in order to deflect from the fact you don't actually have a strong argument. Sounds a bit like a certain POTUS's typical MO, don't you think?

R306 we live in a world that changes so fast , from week to week, that most Americans donât know who won the World Series last year or think about J6 much at all. Mostly not at all.
If progressives think that J6 is a major issue today that will sway voters in the future then tell me who won the last World Series without a google.

The Jan 6th INSURRECTION is not the same as some stupid sports game. America was attacked from within. It's an historic marker no different than Pearl Harbor. The videos will live forever. Those who want to diminish it are MAGA of course and to those who say move on, I say OK, tell the to the Jewish people from WW2. Some things are too history and tragic to "move on" from. If J6 did not help the Democratic s sweep to a massive win last November, when they actually lost 0-3 plus lost all 7 battle ground states , itâs not going to mean shit in 2028 years from now.
You are free to think J6 will be a game changer in 2028 or itâs going to help the democrats a lot but itâs going to be a nonissue. That is different than saying it should be a non issue.
Itâs best to live in the real world not a world that does not exist in reality. J6 will be a total non issue in 2028. The trans though still might be,
by Anonymous | reply 313 | June 10, 2025 11:04 AM |
J 6th WAS the big issue in this last election. Your simplistic logic is not convincing to anyone. The country is split down the middle between the Democrats who believes in free and fair elections, acting like adults who want the country to be a better place which is in direct convincing with 51% MAGA who don't care about the rule of law, fairness, ethic, or that a 34 count felon / rapist is put into the White House. They have no belief system they stick to other than sticking to whatever their lord and master Trump tells them to believe. To blame Democrats and thinking all they have to do is pick the right topic will suddenly sway any of them is laughable and quite delusional.
I live in the real world where I know MAGA and RHINOs all fall in line with Trump no matter what view or issues he has. You live in a false world of ideals where if Dems just toned down their views it would some how break the magical spell Trump holds over his flock for the last 10 years which has only gotten stronger and more crystalized.

I live in a world where the Democratic Party is now the minority party , unheard of and unthinkable when I was coming of age, in terms of numbers and got totally swept in the last election.
I live in a world where the GOP controls the courts and media mostly and the house , senate and White House totally.
Then after losing 0-3 the Democratic Party continued to get smaller and less popular.. And in the first time since forever the democrats started to lose some of their strongest and usually most hardcore loyal and traditional supporters .

The truth about free benefits in the real world is that they are bottom of the barrel services. Waits can be weeks or months, only a hand full will take the Government funded benefits because the pay for services to hospitals and doctors is low, many things get denied because they are not covered. It's nothing like having full on health insurance at a typical white collar job like a PPO or HMO.
The more accurate description for immigrants getting these type of benefits should be called Emergency Services. Because that's basically what it is.

Letâs face it, the large amounts of migrants that have poured through our southern borders are not mainly comprised of eg wealthy South Americans or Caribbeans. Theyâre low-wage and lower-class people including those seeking asylum both from retribution for crimes they committed/fled from, or decent hardworking people fleeing from violence or crime committed against them. And across races and ethnicities, these are people whose cultural norms differ often from what many anti-immigration Americans think of as âcivilized,â âcontributing to society,â or âhardworking.â Like it or not, the optics are not good and many Americans donât want them overwhelming their cities and states anymore. (Except for those who want the migrants to be their menial jobs-performing slaves, perhaps.)

there is no crime that is not celebrated by the Trump Cult. They love stealing, they love rape, they love murder, including murdering cops, they love anything that leads to more power and money for Trump and the cunts around him. Whatever is going on, it is absolutely NOT some cultural divide between the very few migrant criminals and the criminal regime in the White House.
What there is instead is a horror that there are not enough white people in the country and too many brown people. That is the trauma at the heart of all of this. Nobody can give a flying fuck about crime or integrity and vote for Donald J. Trump.

Overstaying a visa is not illegal entry. Claiming asylum is not illegal.

by Anonymous | reply 464 | June 11, 2025 2:18 AM |
See what R464 does? Moves the goal posts with "Overstaying a visa is not illegal entry. Claiming asylum is not illegal."
The FACT is the following: entering the United States illegally is a federal crime under 8 U.S.C. § 1325.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | June 11, 2025 2:23 AM |
And the FACT is also that no member of the Trump Cult truly believes in crime and punishment and law and order. Every member of the Trump Cult has the same underlying belief: all is permitted if it is in service of the cult. All is forbidden if it is opposed to the cult. That is the law and the prophets for every Trump Cult member.
Trump's attempt to use the armed forces to suppress all dissent anywhere and everywhere will be entirely saluted by his cult members, no question about it.
by Anonymous | reply 466 | June 11, 2025 2:31 AM |
In FACT, r465. you are the one moving the goalposts. Face it, this is more complicated than your understanding allows.

Harry Enten with latest polling from CNN.
"âImmigrant citizens, immigrant voters, foreign-born voters have gone tremendously to the right on this issue in 2024 and 2025 versus where they were in 2020,â said Enten."
"When asked which party are you closest to or trust more on immigration, Enten said, Democrats had a 32-point lead on this issue in 2020, and âimmigrant voters were in the Democratic camp.â"
"But when you âjump forward to 2024, 2025 â look at that shift,â he continued. âA 40-point shift to the right among immigrant voters! Republicans now lead on this issue by eight points over Democrats, more so than any other group that I could find.â"

For the idiot at R467:
A person overstaying their VISA means that they entered the country LEGALLY. They have a VISA. which allows them to enter legally. Overstaying that VISA becomes a civil violation. Overstaying a VISA is NOT entering the country illegally.
Asylum. Yes, you can claim asylum if you entered the country illegally, but that does not negate the fact that entering the country illegally is a federal crime.

Undocumented immigrants can file a lawsuit for compensation if they are injured by a negligent party in New York City. This applies to undocumented people injured at work by a negligent manufacturer and those hurt in car accidents. Undocumented immigrants are not restricted in other areas of personal injury, including premises liability, medical malpractice, and product liability. After an accident, victims should report their injuries, seek medical attention, and file a lawsuit. The same type of compensation is available to undocumented immigrants as citizens, meaning victims can recover economic, non-economic, and sometimes punitive damages regardless of their immigration status.

Angelino here. The disaster the media is making out of it is bullshit. The worst of it was Sunday with the freeway closure and some Waymos being set on fire, but the LAPD tactical unit handled all of it before Trump even made the decision to send the National guard and Marines out. Protesters were pretty much moved away from federal buildings and a curfew was set last night. I lived here during the LA Riots and this was nothing like that. Considering the precedents of The Whiskey Rebellion, is there anything unprecedented happening?
Throughout western Pennsylvania counties, protesters used violence and intimidation to prevent federal officials from collecting the tax. Resistance came to a climax in July 1794, when a US marshal arrived in western Pennsylvania to serve writs to distillers who had not paid the excise. The alarm was raised, and more than 500 armed men attacked the fortified home of tax inspector John Neville. Washington responded by sending peace commissioners to western Pennsylvania to negotiate with the rebels, while at the same time calling on governors to send a militia force to enforce the tax. Washington himself rode at the head of an army to suppress the insurgency, with 13,000 militiamen

The White House, aka Stephen Miller, has imposed inspection quotas on various ICE offices. The quotas require the offices to increase the number of businesses they audit for the presence of undocumented workers. Whatâs wrong with that? Once a business gets an ICE audit notice, no employees will show up for work. Although the article does not mention it, ICEâs reputation for the warrantless arrests of legal residents and even U.S. citizens means that no one can rely on their legal status to protect them. You donât want to be around an ICE raid no matter who you are.
But during the first 100 days of the Trump administration, agents arrested about 1,270 undocumented immigrants on worksites and proposed nearly $1 million in fines on businesses that employ them, according to its website.
So this is what I wonder about here. Is that $1 million in "proposed fines" spread across multiple businesses a real deterrent or just the cost of doing business. Does anybody propose arresting any employers, who presumably are also committing crimes, or only the workers still. Would be great to have hearings on all this with DHS and ICE, where Democrats are allowed to ask about things like this.
And then there's
The director of policy at the California Farm Bureau, Bryan Little, who is regularly in touch with farmers throughout the state, said he had not heard of a single enforcement action targeting the stateâs farmers since Trump retook the White House. But on Tuesday, word spread of raids on some farms in Southern California.
Hmmm, ONLY in California. Hmmm.
Trump constantly blames California for the influx of illegal immigrants, but what about Texas and Florida? Why are they never mentioned in any of this?
R532 Probably because California is widely considered a sanctuary state because of its "California Values Act," Senate Bill 54, which limits the cooperation of local law enforcement with federal immigration authorities. Although California is a sanctuary state, this is a state law, and because the ICE raids are a federal order, federal law does overrule state laws. I'm not aware that Florida or Texas has any sanctuary cities

yup, r557, can't possibly have anything to do with the political situation in each of those states. nope, not for Trump, where the personal is the political and the political is absolutely always, deeply, relentlessly personal and full of stupid personal grievances. Absolutely.

Well, since California is the nationâs breadbasket, once there are fewer workers to pick crops, (and the tariffs kick in) food for MAGAts in poor states will become unaffordable.
Then the Big Beautiful Turd will cut services.

Your dire prognosis says more about you R559 Iowa ,Nebraska Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Kansas, Indiana, North Carolina and Wisconsin are along with California the top agricultural states in the US. Much of the food we eat is imported, shipped and packed in the United States. Sorry to disappoint you but no one is going to starve or suffer from malnutrition even if California were to sink into the ocean. California's top crops are fruit, tree nuts and berries which also come from Washington State while Texas, Colorado, Utah, Oregan lead in beef and most poulty and eggs come fron the east. and mlk comes from Pennsylvannia, NY, New Mexico, Idaho and Wisconsin.

California is the only state with the right climate to grow winter crops of vegetables - lettuce, spinach, and the like. There is no way that imports could substitute.
kale, collards, mache, spinach, chard, arugula, and radicchio. Root crops: turnips, parsnips, garlic, beets, and carrots. Other cool-weather crops: peas, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, and other salad greens. Leafy greens: chard, kale, and spinach.
There is no state in the Midwest that can grow these sorts of crops in the winter, because there is too much cold weather. Some parts of the deep South could grow them, but the insect life and soil pests would damage them severely. I bought some cabbage grown in Texas this past late winter, and it was riddled with chew holes and other insect damage.

R543 is correct. Like it or not, the majority of Americans and people in Europe do not like or want unlimited immigration.
And if the American and European democrats and green parties do not start paying the attention to what voters want, they will be turning the governments over to MAGA type parties. That is a FACT

meluvinguy, Mexico dominates the supply of imported vegetables supplying peppers cucumbers, tomatoes, corn ,pinto beans, broccoli, cabbage, onions. lettuce celery, squash and fruits such as apples oranges grapes tangerine tomatoes grapefruit pears bananas lemons limes mangoes watermelons peaches nectarines pineapple strawberries and avocado
Mexico's warm climate makes it the perfect place to grow food year round and large amounts of available land is cultivated to grow large crops many different crops grown in Mexico are exported to the United States Canada and Japan exporting these different foods is excellent for Mexico's economy

r579. You do realize that most of this anti-immigrant fervor is being stoked by propaganda, right?
What would you want Democrats to do? To start echoing Republican talking points and the 24/7 message they're getting from FOX news that every immigrant is either a murder, a rapist, or a member of a violent drug gang? Europeans are getting similar propaganda from right wing politicians and channels in their countries
Sadly, there is no left-wing propaganda machine nearly as effective. Why? Because people love to find other groups on which to blame their unsatisfactory lives. The real parties to blame are the corporations and wealthy billionaires, but they are hard to identify in a crowd, vs, say, a brown person.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | June 12, 2025 6:54 AM |
r580 Yes, Mexico is a great source of winter vegetables, but who exactly are we alienating right now? Food security does not mean that we should give up domestic production of food. Moreover, Mexico is suffering from the effects of climate change even more drastically than California. Longer droughts, less water for irrigation of crops. At a certain point, they could decide that they need to save their water to meet their own domestic needs rather than on food crops for other nations.
by Anonymous | reply 582 | June 12, 2025 6:58 AM |
The Salinas Valley and the Imperial Valley (both in California) are still dominant players in winter vegetables.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | June 12, 2025 7:03 AM |
To put it in perspective Meluvinguy California could sink into the ocean and the United States would still have plenty of vegetables and fruits from all over the world. Countries that supply the US with fruits and vegetables are Canada, Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Chile with Mexico accounting for about 50% of total imports:
by Anonymous | reply 584 | June 12, 2025 7:12 AM |
Meluvinguy Though California is number one In total fruit and vegetable production in the United States the top 10 includes Washington, Florida, Arizona, Georgia (those peaches!) Michigan. North Carolina New York and Texas Still plenty to go around with or without California
California is the only state with the right climate to grow winter
That's simply not true Meluvinguy
by Anonymous | reply 586 | June 12, 2025 7:26 AM |
Meluvinguy In the last 10 years with climate change California has been suffering from droughts which besides being needed to fight the increasing number of wildfires is impacting is being felt by farmers. Altogether the combined direct and indirect consequences of drought have cost about $2 billion a year in value added losses And also have resulted in thousands of jobs cut each year

Itâs logical to crack the sanctuary cities and states as a priority, because when itâs time to remove illegal immigrants from red states like Texas and Florida, you donât want them to be able to find refuge anywhere other than their home country or elsewhere outside the U.S.
