You mean his HOUSE?

"One month after his death, the family issued a statement"
What family?

Looks gorgeous. Why the fuck would you want to tear it down?

What they show does indeed look gorgeous. But lots of the rest of the house aren't shown in the photos.

The cherubs need to go.

Believe it or not, the buyer will be buying the land the HOUSE sits on as well. Or do you not understand how the sale of large grand properties work?

I like it even more after seeing those extra photos. Thanks r7.

I love his very 80s Postmodern renovation - which is now nearly as old as the house was when he first bought it. Even if the new buyer doesn’t do a tear down, I doubt any of that time-capsule interior will survive.

That pool is gorgeous.

I did one of those Tours of the Stars Homes the one and only time I was in LA nearly 20 years ago. IIRC, he lived in the hills right above Hollywood and sort of around the block from Bob Barker.

The exterior is beautiful.... but the interior has been remodelled in the 80's or early 90's, and badly - heniously actually. I'd love to see what it looked like before that was done, because this will need a gut reno to bring it back - possibly why some people thought it might be a teardown which would be a shame. It will need a lot of money, time and effort to restore the interior because its fuck ugly now. It will need a lot more than just paint, paper, decent furniture and carpets/ rugs/ flooring

Were orbs part of the 80s aesthetic, v8fairy? They are seen throughout the home. The estate appears to be one of the largest estates in the neighborhood from what we can see of the arial views. Do we know who lived there prior to Richard? I hope Richard lived a happy life there. The views are beautiful from just about every room.

I saw his housekeeper and brother (who knew he had a brother ??) are fighting over his estate .

R13 yes I remember seeing these in 80's movies set in what were then cutting edge fashionable new homes. The look was called postmodernism at the time, with pastel colours and geometric shapes

Im going to go watch some of his General Hospital clips now.

I love the house from the outside, but most of the interiors would need scrapping for me to be happy there. I wonder if he chose this home because it reminded him of his southern roots.

I don’t know if I could deal with Richard Simmons’ ghost.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 7, 2025 1:45 PM |
I think he was clueless about how he was perceived. He had no idea people thought he was gay (whether true or not). When the Internet came about he could read all these comments about himself. Horrified, he became a recluse.
I think it was assisted suicide and/or AIDS what killed Milton.

If the next owner hears strange shrieking in the night, it will be Richard's tragic ghost haunting the place of his demise.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 7, 2025 11:07 PM |
Tear down, no question.

The 1930s Neoclassical facade is not especially good, but It holds sine promise. The interior, however, not only doesn't deliver, it's a fucking abomination of HVAC ducts, dropped soffits, and hints of PoMo Madness. But would anyone expect any style or taste from that frazzled, frizzed out freak?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 7, 2025 11:53 PM |
This is the only room I like. The rest of the property is pretty meh.

Didn’t MJ have a lot of angel murals commissioned for Neverland Ranch? I wonder if MJ and RS hired the same artist.

I kind of like it. A bit of old Hollywood. I could make do with a bit of renovation. And a lot of sage.

Is the basement full of unsold Deal-a-Meal cards and Sweatin' to the Oldies VHS tapes included?

Same muralist who worked for Rush Limbaugh?

It’s missing some Patrick Nagel art to complete the eighties cocaine lounge look.
So much pink and purple, and so many fucking pedestals. WTF was he displaying on all of those.
The 3D tour was disheartening, like a trip through a middling suburban hotel in 1987.

“In the fitness room was a sign with hand painted lettering that spelled out ‘Sweat to the oldies!’”

In all likelihood, whoever buys that house is buying it as a tear down, not for the home.
It seems like it's on a fairly large parcel.

R29 Richard had the scariest dolls all over that house. I’ve been inside the house. Every empty display case and empty shelves had dolls on them. The only thing they took out of that house were the dolls. The furniture is all the same. Tons of tacky dolls.

I thought it looked like they had removed all of his personal effects and tchotchkes and just left the furniture in the house. Considering how old most of it is they're probably selling the place with all the furnishings included.

The Sunset Plaza area is a very prime location. I'm surprised it's listed at that price — you'd expect it to go for more, even as a teardown. It will sell fast.
