Remember when Crystal Waters gave us Homeless Chic?

From the archives…. There was an actual homeless woman, and Crystal makes sure they used that word in the song title.

Poor Crystal, this parody just incinerated her song.

It's the first thing I remember when someone says her name.

She needs to update this song for 2025 as "Romani Woman (She's Unhoused)".

Gypsy woman and 100% pure love have huge respect and regard as musical classics, especially within the dance music community. They are still being updated, remixed, re-edited and resembled for young club audiences. The in living color parody hardly incinerated it.

This was so overplayed in gay clubs back in the day. It was fine for awhile, but it became too much. I feel the same way about Finally by CeCe Peniston.

There are some songs that people hook on to and they never die. They're ruined by the constant play.

I liked 100% Pure Love by Crystal Waters too - but it doesn't give me the feels anymore.

There are a lot of bangers from that era that still hold up - this doesn't for me. Making Happy by CW still does it for me - but it wasn't played to death.

I can't stand Gypsy Woman.

But I can never tire of hearing100% Pure Love.

Uncanny Alliance had perhaps the greatest unfulfilled promise of a dance act of the 90s. Both singles were awesome, and then, bupkes.

She mentioned in an interview that she was hurt by the In Living Color parody at the time, but she can laugh about it now.

She seems to be doing just fine. Touring, traveling, looking great and still very plugged into the house music community as an elder stateswoman. A person can make a living and have an incredible life in that world without causing a ripple as a household name and she’s managed to do both, with 2 hits from the 90s that have shown more longevity than those made by some of the decades top acts. Are people still dancing to en vogue and Toni Braxton in the club? I do t think so.

Uncanny Alliance "I Got My Education" is just downright evil. I love the Masters at Work remix.

I loved how Uncanny Alliance served the T on her out of touch virtue-signalling.

I loved the song. There was always an element of darkness to it.

I hope she made some money off of the countless remixes and samples.

R36 - beats 90% of SNL skits. Kim Wayans was very good on that show.

I always felt Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner," the DNA remix, paved the way for "Gypsy Woman."

The MadTV parody wasn't so much punchline falling down laughing funny as it was savage at capturing that song and ripping it to shreds.

They played the audio of the MAD sketch on morning radio once and all of us in the car pool were in hysterics.

I don't mind the parody, but calling her talentless was nasty and left a bad taste in my mouth.

The EBNOZN single sounded like 1984. That was the point I was making.

It was mega successful before the parody and still played afterwards. It obviously grossly made fun of the song, but I don't think the effect was that negative.

If we're cataloging Crystal's hits, let's not forget this one. I thought it was massively stupid when it came out, but it grew on me over time and now lives on my dance playlists.
