Have any of you ever gotten a nose hair wax?

How was it? Did it hurt a lot? It appears that I have some super-strong nose hair that no nose hair trimmer can vanquish.

by Anonymousreply 31June 3, 2025 12:53 AM

Yes; a couple of times. It hurts for just a second.

As I get older, my nose hairs are growing like a forest, so I occasionally need to get them under control.

You can buy do-it-yourself nose hair wax removal kits online. I've tried them, but I must not be very good at it, because they don't get all the hairs when I do it. I'd go to a professional to have it done.

by Anonymousreply 2June 1, 2025 5:24 PM

I thought about doing it but if it's not done properly you can get an infection and that can lead to all sorts of problems.

by Anonymousreply 3June 1, 2025 5:38 PM

Just shorten them using regular shears, my god. It's how I cut them right down to skin every couple of weeks.

by Anonymousreply 4June 1, 2025 5:45 PM

R4 Waxing them keeps them at bay longer.

by Anonymousreply 5June 1, 2025 5:50 PM

My husband gets one every 6 weeks or so. He has solid white hair and solid white nose hairs which don't disappear into the nostrils. He loves the wax treatment which really works perfectly. And as said upthread, he says it hurts for only the first second.

by Anonymousreply 6June 1, 2025 5:55 PM

I get nose and ear waxing pretty often - every six weeks or so. It’s only slightly painful. Nothing to worry about.

by Anonymousreply 7June 1, 2025 5:58 PM

Nose hair has a purpose, to filter large particles from being inhaled into you lungs.

Just trim it.

by Anonymousreply 8June 1, 2025 6:03 PM

I get the extra thin extra narrow disposable razor cartridges. I take a hot streamy shower. Soap up the inside of my nose a little, rinse clean. Gently run the razor circular lay through the inside of my nose, rinse it off and do it again and just make sure your nose is totally rinsed out and all that extra hair is really trimmed and you can get a very close shave with it.. if I say the razor to use in a second time, I wrap it up somehow and then before using it I'll clean it off. Soak it in some alcohol for a moment to make sure it's sterile

My Turkish barber offers a nose wax every time, but the last time he did it I nearly lost consciousness.

by Anonymousreply 10June 1, 2025 8:46 PM

I have a very talented waxer: Once a month does it for me.

by Anonymousreply 11June 1, 2025 8:54 PM

I didn't even know this was a thing. I have a $20 trimmer and it works pretty well.

by Anonymousreply 12June 1, 2025 8:55 PM

I heard you can get an infection from waxing, but does that ever happen? Seems like a remote chance. Anyway, I use a good nosehair trimmer. I can't imagine how painful nosehair waxing must be.

by Anonymousreply 13June 1, 2025 9:04 PM

I’ve tried it a few times at home. Only the tiniest sting and the results have been effective. I’m amazed how much easier I can breathe after.

by Anonymousreply 14June 1, 2025 9:05 PM

I take a little curved cuticle scissors to mine every couple of weeks.

by Anonymousreply 15June 1, 2025 9:06 PM

r8 is correct: you want to keep your nose hair instead of plucking it (or waxing it) entirely because it will prevent against catching viruses and bacterial infections.

If you are unable to use nose hair trimmers, use a small pair of scissors you can buy in the beauty section of any drugstore which are specially designed for the purpose.

by Anonymousreply 16June 1, 2025 9:06 PM

My eyes are watering just thinking about it.

by Anonymousreply 17June 1, 2025 9:11 PM

I get my ears and nose done every month for $20 in Chicago. The salon's main business is waxing, threading and shaping eyebrows.

by Anonymousreply 18June 1, 2025 9:11 PM

I'm with R8. And I notice that even if I cut or pluck out my nose hairs too much, I get whatever cold is going around. Waxing them out would be worse for me, I'm sure.

Ear waxing, however, has been a godsend.

by Anonymousreply 19June 1, 2025 9:27 PM

OP, I get it done every 5 weeks -- along the same schedule as my haircuts. It's not a big deal at all. Just make sure it's with a proper esthetician. They use a hard wax. There is maybe a slight sting when they yank it out, but I wouldn't even call it painful. In the early days of the pandemic, I tried those at-home kits. They were a mess because it's much more challenging to do it yourself and much easier to get that at-home wax on your beard/mustache and/or get remnants of it stuck up your nose. The $10 + tip I pay every five weeks is worth it. And, honestly, I feel like I breathe better after, too.

Oh, and, the chicken littles in here are wrong. You're not suddenly going to be catching ever virus out there because you got your nose hairs waxed. I've been doing it for a decade and have seen no uptick in the number of colds or infections I get.

by Anonymousreply 21June 1, 2025 10:04 PM

Real men burn 'em out with a Bic.

by Anonymousreply 22June 1, 2025 10:12 PM

R21 I am one of the chicken littles lol For me, I've seen the correlation.

My immune system isn't as hardy as yours, I guess?

by Anonymousreply 23June 1, 2025 10:19 PM

Tweezers for me!

by Anonymousreply 24June 1, 2025 10:20 PM

r23 - sorry, didn't mean to diminish or dismiss your personal experience. Perhaps that has been the case for you. I really do think that's a VERY low risk, though. And, the hair grows back, so if, by some small chance, OP suddenly starts catching cold left and right, they can discontinue the waxes. It's also worth noting that a good esthetician can accommodate degrees of hair removal. For instance, you might say you want a little still left in the nostril vs. having every last visible hair removed.

by Anonymousreply 25June 1, 2025 10:35 PM

For those using a trimmer (I assume battery operated?) can they please come back and recommend a brand? I have a cheap one I got an Amazon that's only partially effective.

Also, my husband who's been getting the wax treatments for the past year has suffered no infections or diseases.

by Anonymousreply 26June 2, 2025 1:40 AM

Nose hair waxing does not remove all the nose hairs in the nasal canal, just the ones in the first quarter inch or so. There are still plenty to block larger particulates from being inhaled. It is only slightly painful for a brief second, and usually induces a sneeze. Trimming is just as effective. There is greater risk of infection with waxing - you are basically ripping the hairs out of the root, but waxing does not pull the bulb which would prevent it from regrowing and causes irritation.

This is why epidemiologists do not operate from a sample size of one.

Several years ago I inadvertently cut the skin inside a nostril with a sharp little scissors as I trimming the hair. It lead to terrible nose bleeds and I finally had to see a surgeon to have my inner nostril repaired. It wouldn't heal on its own.

So beware! Those sharp little scissors must be used VERY carefully.

by Anonymousreply 29June 2, 2025 2:04 AM

Oh, r29. You made a nearly fatal error. Never reach inside your nose with a sharp ended scissors. There are specially made scissors with rounded edges at the top, especially for trimming nostrils.

Trouble is, those blunted scissors, safe though they are, don't really do an effective job.
