Patti Lupone is an extremely talented stage actress and singer of many decades. She has always been outspoken. but smart people think before they speak. Words have consequences and sometimes those consequences can be severe. She wasn't just dissing Kecia, she was also dissing black musicals, which tend to be amplified "hotter" than traditional white musicals. (Kind of silly to use those terms today, when casts of both types of musicals are mixed). That was why Kecia clapped back at her. A smarter move would have been a negotiation between managers or stage owners, where one could say to the other, "My show is being affected because too much sound is bleeding through the walls of theater. Is there any way to reduce the amplification"?- leaving the stars of the shows out of it completely.
