Rewatching early seasons of Survivor
I really loved this show. It's amazing to me we went from contestants being stalked by lions and having to have someone stay up all night to stand guard from predators and people genuinely starving to the main storyline being a girl who cries when she doesn't get her way and 200 idols per season. The also don't go anywhere anymore and use the exact same challenges now.
I know many people prefer new game style with a focus on friendship and gameplay and idols but I deeply prefer the 'is anyone going to die' gameplay. I don't think it's even the same game. Not one person in the past 10 seasons would have made it in the beginning seasons.
Which style do you prefer? Also, feel free to chit chat players, seasons etc.

The early seasons are wild to watch now because so much emphasis is placed on surviving the elements and being a useful member of the tribe. The sixth season in the Amazon is when the game shifted more toward strategy and being an individual game.
The players don't go exploring or fishing or whatever anymore because the 26-day duration means they don't have nearly as much downtime. It's bad for your game to go off into the jungle by yourself while others discuss voting strategies. The shorter time also means they don't lose as much weight and are fed better than the early seasons, with the food reward challenges happening about every other day.

I am enjoying the early seasons rewatch so much. They could NEVER get away with half the things that happened to people early on now. The challenges were absolutely brutal as were the elements. Maybe I would have gotten sick of the format had they continued the same way as early seasons but I don't think I would hate it the same way as new seasons.
Can you IMAGINE Eva on season 2?

r4! YES there was! and not in a 'mactor model' kind of way like the middle seasons but just guys who worked hard and were fucking hot.

All I could handle was the first season and a half. The concept was new and interesting at first then it became a farce.

Early seasons also had some pretty horrifying food challenges. Drink a big ass glass of blood, balut, live maggots etc. get rid of idols and bring back balut!
