When I mentioned "wall-to-wall carpeting," the designer informed me "all carpeting is wall-to-wall, everything else is a rug." Are there other terms we misuse?

Was she being informative or trying to prove herself superior? I understand that those terms are not strict, but it can be helpful to have shared terminology when discussing options.
An architect once pointed out to me that a home built in the 1920’s is not a colonial. It’s a colonial revival. I was so used to seeing nice pre-war colonial revivals vs. more recent monstrosities with colonial revival elements that I had started to think of anything pre-war as a “real” colonial. Obviously, in conversation, Americans discuss post 1776 colonials (and Tudors), but I appreciated being made aware of the potential distinction.
