Now it's up to the state Senate and JB
Good for Illinois!

God gave us free will, including this decision.

There is nothing wrong with assisted suicide. We've all known people who were terminally ill and in tremendous pain and only had a very short time left to life. If somebody in that condition wants to check out, they should be able to under the law.

The legislature adjourned without the Senate taking it up.

Of course there’s the issue of mental illness, but if we’re allowing people to mutilate themselves to become the opposite gender without question, why not?

I don’t know why more Democrats across the country fail to take up this issue. Especially with such an aging society, I think it would be hugely popular.

Health insurance and nursing homes will hate this - life insurance companies will love it because no payout.
Just how exactly would you qualify? Do you have to be terminal or just ready to go?
Asking for my mom - I mean, my friend.

Not all policies exclude suicide as a reason to payout.
But there's usually a suicide exclusion for any life insurance policy *in its first few years* just to avoid the possibility that someone gets a policy and immediately offs themselves to cash in.

R9 - watch as they roll-out 43 pages in 7pt mice font of 'updates to our terms and conditions policy' that you have to check off to keep your life insurance plan but nobody will read. That will provide an out for them.

Meanwhile, in Joni Ernst land we live until we die.

Well, just as insurers were prohibited from denying coverage to those with preexisting conditions, they would have to be prohibited from denying coverage to those availing themselves of legal suicide.

Almost every life insurance policy is contestable in the first two years for a number of reasons, including suicide.

Everyone I know who either had cancer or had recovered was for this. Several other states have this and have figured out a way around the abuses. It's like abortion--if you don't lie it, don't do it. A poll found that 70 percent of residents were in favor but it was not a priority.

like, not lie

R14 - wow - I had no idea there were 10 states that already allow this. Where have I been?
And the states in yellow have bills to potentially pass it as well.
This zoomed right over me - I thought Switzerland or some other European country was the only place to do it.
