Ok this looks good! It feels like if the Overcompensating characters graduated and now have to be adults. I look forward to starting this one.
I wanted to make a thread about this show, but some eldergay chided me for creating the Overcompensating one already, saying DL was not the target audience for these, despite the gay characters in it. And so I didn't!
Having said that, I will give this one a go. I hope I can relate to Zoomer stuff, though.

They're calling this the "Gen Z FRIENDS" but it's really more like a reboot of HAPPY ENDINGS with twentysomethings instead of thirtysomethings. Lots of snappy dialogue, outrageous situations, some near-surrealistic moments. I did laugh when they got jealous that a friend went viral for being sexually assaulted at work.
The two female leads are both good at this stuff, and one of them is very "young Lecy Goranson."

One of the actors in it is also in Overcompensating.

I don't think I would be able to watch that show because I'd keep punching my screen every time one of them spoke.

I really want to like this but that trailer just screams "trying way too hard"

maaaaybbbeee. I know my husband wouldn't watch it with me so I'll have to check it out on my own. I did like Overcompensating.

Would it have killed them to give us some eye candy?

R7 LOL

I saw the trailer and knew I would hate it. It looks like a bunch of lazy cliches about young people written by someone older. 2025's Reality Bites.

The reviews are terrible.

Some of it is funny. Some of it is way too try-hard and ridiculous. But the main problem is the Gen Z of it all. Not that it’s about young people in general, but rather about this particular generation of young people. I’m not convinced even Gen Zers want to watch their own generation portrayed on TV.

Finished it. I loved it by the end, but agree with something I heard on The Watch podcast – the first two episodes were clearly meant to impress the FX execs, its true character is revealed with the third episode and onwards.
I thought it was hilarious, though I could have done with one fewer reaction shots of another cast member reacting to the joke. Issa is clearly Ilana (of Broad City) 2.0.
Charlie Cox being hot – when isn't he? – and doing his native accent. Which, when was the last time that happened? I had no idea he could do comedy, he was funny as hell.
Loved the gay twist at the very end. I'll definitely be watching the second season if it's renewed.

I did enjoy it more as the season went on.

Yeah, the girl who plays Issa has cribbed all of her line readings and mannerisms from Ilana Glazer. Overall, I ended up enjoying the show and agree it improved as it went along. The first couple of episodes I was like "ugh, fucking Gen Z" but by episode 3 or 4 I was totally into it.

The critics universally hate the pilot. I’m surprised they didn’t fix the first two or three episodes before releasing it because the back half is so much stronger. Lot of people will check out early.

It STINKS! I watched a portion of the 1st episode - it was a slog so I cut my losses and moved on. Now if they bring back 'The Lovers' for a 2nd season I'm in - the 1st season was adorable!
