Court says El Taco can't impose tarrifs unilaterally.
The U.S. Court of International Trade permanently vacates tarrifs

How dare you defy my lord n saver, my father, my lover, my POTUS for life.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 28, 2025 11:31 PM |
A three-judge panel at the US Court of International Trade, a relatively low-profile court in Manhattan, ruled Wednesday to temporarily halt Trump’s global tariffs that he imposed citing emergency economic powers, including his “Liberation Day” tariffs imposed on April 2.
The court ruled in favor of a permanent injunction, grinding Trump’s global tariffs to a halt before “deals” with most other trading partners have even been reached. That means the bulk – but not all – of Trump’s tariffs are put in a standstill.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 28, 2025 11:31 PM |
Trump hasn't had the power to do most of the things he's done unilaterally. I'm glad that some people are beginning to figure this out.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 28, 2025 11:39 PM |
He will just strongarm Congress to approve them then. It’s not as if his lackeys will oppose him.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 28, 2025 11:48 PM |
This is good. And I think it’ll stick. I don’t think even the conservatives on the Supreme Court will side with him, if goes that far (and I’m assuming he will appeal)
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 29, 2025 12:22 AM |
He will try to appeal his own death.

It would be a good excuse for the Republicans to back down from this ruinous fuckery.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 29, 2025 12:34 AM |
R4 - once the senate passes his big beautiful bill, he won’t need Republicans in Congress for anything else.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 29, 2025 12:42 AM |
I have a feeling he will disobey the court ruling - as he has done numerous times this year - and do what he wants. And he will get away with it.

Per Project 2025 author Russell Vought has said Trump's strategy is to just ignore the Court's orders like his hero Andrew Jackson. Since he knows the House will never vote to Impeach and SCOTUS has already given him "presidential immunity" . Welcome to the Turd Reich.

This is huge! Every single country in the world is laughing their asses off. They’ve loosened their ties, poured themselves a scotch, lit a cigar and propped their feet on their desk. He tried to bully and shake them down. Now he’s humiliated and weakened.
And so much bad news for him today! The plane “gift” wasn’t a gift. We paid Qatar in either $$$ or favors. And Trump asked Qatar to give it to him—-not the other way around.
And Elon officially left the Administration, whining like a little bitch and criticizing the budget bill. And another one of his rockets blew up today!
I’m sorry we all have to suffer through it, but the joy of watching them chock on their own hubris makes the pain almost worth it.
I want every bad thing to befall them.

The GOP House caucus is full of weasels, but many are like foxes too, in knowing how they can bamboozle their cement head constituents into voting for them. My guess is that many will create a fog of procedure which nobody really follows and they will prevent Trump from getting the power to impose tariffs.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 29, 2025 4:28 AM |
Trump will threaten them if they thwart him though.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 29, 2025 4:33 AM |
If he was smart he'd use this as an easy out out from his horrible tariff fiasco.
He can shrug, blame the "evil liberal courts", the economy will thrive and he can take all the credit.
But he's a fucking moron. So he will do what he always does and cause more chaos.

LOSER. And he knows it!!! He’s such a creature, he’s not even a real man, look how humiliated he feels. We’ve pulled his pants down in public, and are pointing and laughing at his little mushroom cap red-headed dobber-wee-wee. And all he can do is try to cover his wee-wee, there’s no where to run and hide.
For the record though, this is when he becomes most dangerous. He’s filled with even more hatred and will need to lash out at us for laughing at him. He hates all of humanity, but especially America and Americans, thinks we’re all suckers and losers for caring about America, you see. We’re suckers for having hope in America, affording to him. But the fact that his humiliation is so public will make him rage, and he will become more unpredictable, but we just know the abuse will get turned up.
Like if we were his wife, we’re about to get an all weekend beat-down that will break some bones. Still worth it. 🤡
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 29, 2025 5:09 AM |
One of the few things that I think Trump understands is that when the stock market crashes, it’s bad for him (which is all he cares about) because his 1%er financial supporters lose a lot of their wealth, call him on the phone, and threaten to cut their future substantial donations. Money, power (including the use of revenge), and idolatry to prop up his pathological ego are his main motivations. They are his only “principles.” Hence the rapid reversal of his first tariffs announcement when the stock market quickly crashed. The same thing happens when he does something and his poll numbers go down. He has no convictions other than those I stated above (well, he does also have 37 other convictions, but that’s another story).
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 29, 2025 5:51 AM |
I wonder who was the grifter who first said the word "tariff" to him and explained how it works.
You know he's not smart enough to know anything about them on his own.

[quote] I wonder who was the grifter who first said the word "tariff" to him and explained how it works.
R46 It may have been Musk, because the split between them became apparent after the tariff debacle the first week of April. In addition, Musk’s wealth was dropping precipitously because of his business failures, raising the possibility of less money donations for Trump. In addition, Musk was getting very powerful, and that is intolerable to an autocrat.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 29, 2025 7:09 AM |
Trump has been talking about tariffs since the 1980s.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 29, 2025 7:15 AM |
We're in New Zealand and our Government didn't do a thing about the tariffs because we knew he didn't have the power. I think Australia did the same. SCOTUS doesn't need to take this case.

It's his staff or anyone in his near vicinity who will get the beat down. Mark my words, they've got their hands full dealing with his fury and self pity. Peter Navarro should be sweating bullets. I think dealing with Trump’s wrath is going to be worse than prison for him. #ETTD.

My dos centavos ...
They've been propping him up to the public, getting him to go along with every scheme. It takes a majority of the cabinet to depose him, not a unanimous vote. They must be tired of him, moreover, there's a conspiracy theory that he'd be gone as soon as possible after inauguration to make way for Vance as another puppet.
R Congress leaders will ooze sympathy that it came to this, but they'll cooperate in keeping Vance if Trump forces a floor vote on it.

He actually seems to like it when the courts fight him or thwart him, and he can take his grievance to social media. But this new TACO humiliation is just the kind of thing that drives him apoplectic.
And so far the stock market seems rather indifferent to this news.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 29, 2025 4:19 PM |
He can ignore and do what he wants, but are the ports going to still keep charging those tariffs?
If they do, Wall St will come down on them like a ton of bricks and sue. Or just not pay. They’re illegal anyway, so why pay?
Besides, Muskcunt has already fired customs agents, so who, exactly, is going to collect those tariffs? Stop shipments from being unloaded? Nobody.
If that TACO choad thinks he can just roll P&G, he’s about to get cunt punted and I am here for it.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | May 29, 2025 4:43 PM |
My thinking is the poor schmucks that have to carry out Dump’s orders are well aware that someone else might be running the country (hopefully sooner rather than later), and they would be vulnerable to federal charges if they disobey the courts.
Or am I just a Pollyanna?

Polling has shown that the tariffs are really only popular with hardcore, dead-ender, Kool Aid supporters, with everyone else, including a fair number of Republicans, having their doubts.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 30, 2025 12:04 AM |
