The U.S. Court of International Trade permanently vacates tarrifs

Court says El Taco can't impose tarrifs unilaterally.

How dare you defy my lord n saver, my father, my lover, my POTUS for life.

by Anonymousreply 1May 28, 2025 11:31 PM

A three-judge panel at the US Court of International Trade, a relatively low-profile court in Manhattan, ruled Wednesday to temporarily halt Trump’s global tariffs that he imposed citing emergency economic powers, including his “Liberation Day” tariffs imposed on April 2.

The court ruled in favor of a permanent injunction, grinding Trump’s global tariffs to a halt before “deals” with most other trading partners have even been reached. That means the bulk – but not all – of Trump’s tariffs are put in a standstill.

Trump hasn't had the power to do most of the things he's done unilaterally. I'm glad that some people are beginning to figure this out.

by Anonymousreply 3May 28, 2025 11:39 PM

He will just strongarm Congress to approve them then. It’s not as if his lackeys will oppose him.

by Anonymousreply 4May 28, 2025 11:48 PM

This is good. And I think it’ll stick. I don’t think even the conservatives on the Supreme Court will side with him, if goes that far (and I’m assuming he will appeal)

by Anonymousreply 5May 29, 2025 12:22 AM

He will try to appeal his own death.

by Anonymousreply 6May 29, 2025 12:24 AM

R6, they better televise that trial! It will be a ratings bonanza.

by Anonymousreply 7May 29, 2025 12:27 AM

It would be a good excuse for the Republicans to back down from this ruinous fuckery.

by Anonymousreply 8May 29, 2025 12:34 AM

R4 - once the senate passes his big beautiful bill, he won’t need Republicans in Congress for anything else.

by Anonymousreply 9May 29, 2025 12:42 AM

I have a feeling he will disobey the court ruling - as he has done numerous times this year - and do what he wants. And he will get away with it.

by Anonymousreply 10May 29, 2025 12:46 AM

My lord n saver gets away with everything. Or else.

by Anonymousreply 12May 29, 2025 1:03 AM

Hahahahahaha!!!

by Anonymousreply 13May 29, 2025 1:06 AM

This is where we find out how ready, willing, and able the GOP really is to commit hari-kari by giving Trump the power to impose tariffs.

by Anonymousreply 14May 29, 2025 1:19 AM

They're SICK. They hate America. I have a mandate!

by Anonymousreply 15May 29, 2025 1:19 AM

Per Project 2025 author Russell Vought has said Trump's strategy is to just ignore the Court's orders like his hero Andrew Jackson. Since he knows the House will never vote to Impeach and SCOTUS has already given him "presidential immunity" . Welcome to the Turd Reich.

by Anonymousreply 16May 29, 2025 1:42 AM

Our only hope is to flip the House & Senate next year.

by Anonymousreply 17May 29, 2025 1:44 AM

Our only hope is for Putin to Nuc us.

by Anonymousreply 18May 29, 2025 2:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 19May 29, 2025 2:23 AM

The Chrisleys are available-maybe they can help?

by Anonymousreply 20May 29, 2025 2:25 AM

R17 for the WIN!. Truer words were never spoken (at least during these shit stirring times).

by Anonymousreply 21May 29, 2025 2:26 AM
I have a feeling he will disobey the court ruling

Do you think Trump is calling and writing invoices to importing companies?

by Anonymousreply 22May 29, 2025 2:30 AM

Trump gets smacked down again.

This is very good news. Trump is such a fucking loser. He knows nothing. He manages nothing--doesn't know how. Trump cannot negotiate--he doesn't know how.

Businessman, dealmaker...my ass.

by Anonymousreply 23May 29, 2025 2:31 AM

He’s appealed it.

by Anonymousreply 24May 29, 2025 2:41 AM
He will just strongarm Congress to approve them then. It’s not as if his lackeys will oppose him.

Not me! You can’t make me do my job and show up to vote.

by Anonymousreply 25May 29, 2025 2:49 AM

Of course. But an appeal is not ignoring it.

by Anonymousreply 26May 29, 2025 2:50 AM
He’s appealed it.

And he'll will get smacked down again.

Markets are soaring on this news. And markets always know.

by Anonymousreply 27May 29, 2025 2:51 AM

Thank goodness they vacated his tarrifs, so that he can continue with his mission to impose tariffs! 😁

by Anonymousreply 28May 29, 2025 2:53 AM

This is huge! Every single country in the world is laughing their asses off. They’ve loosened their ties, poured themselves a scotch, lit a cigar and propped their feet on their desk. He tried to bully and shake them down. Now he’s humiliated and weakened.

And so much bad news for him today! The plane “gift” wasn’t a gift. We paid Qatar in either $$$ or favors. And Trump asked Qatar to give it to him—-not the other way around.

And Elon officially left the Administration, whining like a little bitch and criticizing the budget bill. And another one of his rockets blew up today!

I’m sorry we all have to suffer through it, but the joy of watching them chock on their own hubris makes the pain almost worth it.

I want every bad thing to befall them.

by Anonymousreply 29May 29, 2025 3:04 AM

All these seemingly small events are worth following. Take every bit of optimism you can. Where you take it is your business but try to find something. And keep talking about it.

by Anonymousreply 30May 29, 2025 3:05 AM
Our only hope is to flip the House & Senate next year..

Next year. It gets closer every day. Nevermind 2028 for now. It's too early to give up. Next year. Concentrate on those goals.

by Anonymousreply 31May 29, 2025 3:14 AM
This is huge! Every single country in the world is laughing their asses off.

As is anyone among the American public who is honest and has a brain.

Trump, the dumb criminal fuck.

by Anonymousreply 32May 29, 2025 3:14 AM

Good, dumb as shit

by Anonymousreply 33May 29, 2025 3:20 AM

Ahh, another feel good story. I love feel good stories.

by Anonymousreply 34May 29, 2025 3:24 AM

Today it's Trump who gets a vicious face slapping.

by Anonymousreply 35May 29, 2025 3:47 AM

I'm surprised he hasn't tweeted, x'd, truthedsocialed or whatever about it yet.

by Anonymousreply 36May 29, 2025 3:52 AM

I think some of you are way too optimistic. What happens in court doesn’t matter because he doesn’t need court permission. He just needs congress who always does his bidding.

by Anonymousreply 37May 29, 2025 4:07 AM

The GOP House caucus is full of weasels, but many are like foxes too, in knowing how they can bamboozle their cement head constituents into voting for them. My guess is that many will create a fog of procedure which nobody really follows and they will prevent Trump from getting the power to impose tariffs.

by Anonymousreply 38May 29, 2025 4:28 AM

Trump will threaten them if they thwart him though.

by Anonymousreply 39May 29, 2025 4:33 AM

If he was smart he'd use this as an easy out out from his horrible tariff fiasco.

He can shrug, blame the "evil liberal courts", the economy will thrive and he can take all the credit.

But he's a fucking moron. So he will do what he always does and cause more chaos.

by Anonymousreply 40May 29, 2025 4:36 AM
And so much bad news for him today!

Also, as OP notes, everyone found out today that Wall Street is calling him TACO, for Trump Always Chickens Out, because he keeps changing his mind on tariffs. A reporter asked him about it and he was furious.

by Anonymousreply 41May 29, 2025 4:46 AM

Omg on TACO, cue the memes and the humiliation that he’s got a nick name straight outta Mexico, chinga tú MAGA!!! Chinga tú mama!!!! Chinga tú TRUMP!

by Anonymousreply 42May 29, 2025 5:01 AM

LOSER. And he knows it!!! He’s such a creature, he’s not even a real man, look how humiliated he feels. We’ve pulled his pants down in public, and are pointing and laughing at his little mushroom cap red-headed dobber-wee-wee. And all he can do is try to cover his wee-wee, there’s no where to run and hide.

For the record though, this is when he becomes most dangerous. He’s filled with even more hatred and will need to lash out at us for laughing at him. He hates all of humanity, but especially America and Americans, thinks we’re all suckers and losers for caring about America, you see. We’re suckers for having hope in America, affording to him. But the fact that his humiliation is so public will make him rage, and he will become more unpredictable, but we just know the abuse will get turned up.

Like if we were his wife, we’re about to get an all weekend beat-down that will break some bones. Still worth it. 🤡

One of the few things that I think Trump understands is that when the stock market crashes, it’s bad for him (which is all he cares about) because his 1%er financial supporters lose a lot of their wealth, call him on the phone, and threaten to cut their future substantial donations. Money, power (including the use of revenge), and idolatry to prop up his pathological ego are his main motivations. They are his only “principles.” Hence the rapid reversal of his first tariffs announcement when the stock market quickly crashed. The same thing happens when he does something and his poll numbers go down. He has no convictions other than those I stated above (well, he does also have 37 other convictions, but that’s another story).

by Anonymousreply 45May 29, 2025 5:51 AM

I wonder who was the grifter who first said the word "tariff" to him and explained how it works.

You know he's not smart enough to know anything about them on his own.

TACO......that's great!

by Anonymousreply 46May 29, 2025 6:37 AM
I wonder who was the grifter who first said the word "tariff" to him and explained how it works.

R46 It may have been Musk, because the split between them became apparent after the tariff debacle the first week of April. In addition, Musk’s wealth was dropping precipitously because of his business failures, raising the possibility of less money donations for Trump. In addition, Musk was getting very powerful, and that is intolerable to an autocrat.

by Anonymousreply 47May 29, 2025 7:09 AM

Trump has been talking about tariffs since the 1980s.

by Anonymousreply 48May 29, 2025 7:15 AM

We're in New Zealand and our Government didn't do a thing about the tariffs because we knew he didn't have the power. I think Australia did the same. SCOTUS doesn't need to take this case.

by Anonymousreply 49May 29, 2025 9:59 AM
Like if we were his wife, we’re about to get an all weekend beat-down that will break some bones. Still worth it. 🤡

It's his staff or anyone in his near vicinity who will get the beat down. Mark my words, they've got their hands full dealing with his fury and self pity. Peter Navarro should be sweating bullets. I think dealing with Trump’s wrath is going to be worse than prison for him. #ETTD.

Taco Tuesday every day!

by Anonymousreply 51May 29, 2025 12:43 PM

My dos centavos ...

They've been propping him up to the public, getting him to go along with every scheme. It takes a majority of the cabinet to depose him, not a unanimous vote. They must be tired of him, moreover, there's a conspiracy theory that he'd be gone as soon as possible after inauguration to make way for Vance as another puppet.

R Congress leaders will ooze sympathy that it came to this, but they'll cooperate in keeping Vance if Trump forces a floor vote on it.

by Anonymousreply 52May 29, 2025 12:48 PM
He will try to appeal his own death.

by Anonymousreply 53May 29, 2025 12:50 PM

What if everywhere Trump went masses of people started shouting [bold] [italic] "TACO, TACO, TACO" [/italic] [/bold] ???

Would he implode or start killing people?

by Anonymousreply 54May 29, 2025 1:44 PM

He actually seems to like it when the courts fight him or thwart him, and he can take his grievance to social media. But this new TACO humiliation is just the kind of thing that drives him apoplectic.

And so far the stock market seems rather indifferent to this news.

by Anonymousreply 55May 29, 2025 1:50 PM
...new TACO humiliation is just the kind of thing that drives him apoplectic

And now that they have found a raw nerve to pluck, I wouldn't be surprised if it went more viral to some sort of public breakdown.

If the Dumplicans in the Congress implement these tariffs for TACO Trump, Dump will BLAME THEM when the Tariffs cause economic pain to his stupid supporters and they will lose their careers, seats in Congress and their personal safety will be threatened by Dumps crazed Dumbo voters who all seem to have guns.

by Anonymousreply 62May 29, 2025 3:21 PM

I love happy endings, R62.

by Anonymousreply 63May 29, 2025 3:25 PM

What drink goes best with a TACO? Orange Crush.

by Anonymousreply 64May 29, 2025 3:44 PM

This takes the heat off the gutless Republicans in Congress having to do anything on tariffs. Of course, Dump will just ignore the courts and do whatever he wants.

by Anonymousreply 65May 29, 2025 4:19 PM

He can ignore and do what he wants, but are the ports going to still keep charging those tariffs?

If they do, Wall St will come down on them like a ton of bricks and sue. Or just not pay. They’re illegal anyway, so why pay?

Besides, Muskcunt has already fired customs agents, so who, exactly, is going to collect those tariffs? Stop shipments from being unloaded? Nobody.

If that TACO choad thinks he can just roll P&G, he’s about to get cunt punted and I am here for it.

by Anonymousreply 66May 29, 2025 4:43 PM

My thinking is the poor schmucks that have to carry out Dump’s orders are well aware that someone else might be running the country (hopefully sooner rather than later), and they would be vulnerable to federal charges if they disobey the courts.

Or am I just a Pollyanna?

by Anonymousreply 67May 29, 2025 4:57 PM

Pollyanna, r67.

Mueller? Jack Smith?

They didn’t even charge goddamned PEONS.

by Anonymousreply 68May 29, 2025 4:59 PM

Somebody told the child, no. Finally.

by Anonymousreply 69May 29, 2025 5:04 PM

This has got to really burn Trump. The courts are not letting him get away with breaking or misinterpreting the law, and the global financial markets think he’s an imbecile.

R58: unlike some others here comma I believe everyone's entitled to their opinion, whether I disagree strongly or not. Even during the first term, I felt that the Rs in congress admired his political appeal, but really couldn't stand dealing with him on a day to day basis.

Polling has shown that the tariffs are really only popular with hardcore, dead-ender, Kool Aid supporters, with everyone else, including a fair number of Republicans, having their doubts.

by Anonymousreply 76May 30, 2025 12:04 AM

And I’ll say the only reason tariffs are popular among the knuckle draggers is because Dump proposed them. If he came out tomorrow and said tariffs suck, they’d say tariffs suck.

by Anonymousreply 77May 30, 2025 1:16 AM

Hang in there, another Trump humiliation is just around the corner. The appeals court will consider the motions of their temporary stay on June 9th.
