New York - Democratic Senate Polling Among Jewish Voters:

So much for DL political experts' objective assessment of how AOC will lose the seat to Repugs while Schumer is the unifier New York needs.

by Anonymousreply 58May 31, 2025 8:28 PM

NY state outside of NYC is a lot more red than people realize.

Schumer would easily win the state. Polling Jewish Democrats about whom they prefer doesn't take into consideration winning the statewide race.

We are at a critical juncture. Ask yourself whether you really want to gamble a guaranteed senate seat.

Also, it is standard political strategy to pick your opponent. I wonder who might really push hard for AOC over Schumer.

by Anonymousreply 1May 28, 2025 4:38 PM
We are at a critical juncture

Exactly, which is precisely why we need a Democrat who actually has a spine, doesn't think their job as an elected official is to "keep the left pro-Israel", doesn't stay silent while the Repugs dismantle the federal institutions and shit all over the constitution, and isn't retarded enough to believe the way to win back voters is by moving further to the right and adopting Trump's policy ideas.

by Anonymousreply 2May 28, 2025 4:43 PM

I would give anything to kick Schumer into the gutter where he belongs, the useless sack of spineless gristle

by Anonymousreply 3May 28, 2025 4:45 PM

I’m in NYC and while I have some reservations about AOC, Schumer is backed by private equity and his biggest donor (the Blackstone Group) primarily donates to GOP PACs. He’s the definition of controlled opposition, and it’s extremely disappointing he’s the Senate Minority Leader.

I think AOC is enough of a firebrand that she might lose to a Republican challenger, but having Schumer in office isn’t that different than having a GOP representative based on his alignment to corporate interests.

by Anonymousreply 4May 28, 2025 4:46 PM

Schumer is up for reelection in 2028. A lot can and will happen between then and now.

by Anonymousreply 5May 28, 2025 4:52 PM

You people are way too fixated on Jews. You’re obsessed.

by Anonymousreply 6May 28, 2025 7:00 PM

Every Jew I know is horrified by what's happening and they want a ceasefire. Some of them even identify as Zionists but they still don't support the genocide. Jews are not a monolith any more than gays are.

by Anonymousreply 7May 28, 2025 7:19 PM

AOC is wildly popular, R1, whether you like her or not (clearly not).

by Anonymousreply 8May 28, 2025 7:21 PM

Have the very religious Jews started registering as Republicans yet?

by Anonymousreply 9May 28, 2025 7:45 PM

R6, who do you think votes Democrat in large numbers in NYC? Jews.

by Anonymousreply 10May 28, 2025 7:49 PM

R7 THANK YOU. There's nothing more antisemitic than conflating being Jewish with supporting genocide. In fact, nothing has fueled antisemitism more in decades than the suggestion that not wanting Palestinian children to to be burnt alive means you hate the Jews. Zionists are out of their fucking minds if they think forcing people to choose between basic human decency and being labeled an antisemite is going to win them any PR points.

by Anonymousreply 11May 28, 2025 8:23 PM

Agree R11, and even the term Zionist is too much of a generalization.

by Anonymousreply 12May 28, 2025 8:31 PM

“ having Schumer in office isn’t that different than having a GOP representative based on his alignment to corporate interests”

So much ignorance in a single clause. That’s why we lose …

by Anonymousreply 13May 28, 2025 8:35 PM

I think there’s a lot of online astroturfing by factions who claim it’s anti-Semitic to oppose the war tactics of the Netanyahu government. The Jewish population in the US isn’t huge and tends to be localized in certain areas, which makes it easy to spread misinformation.

The issue of Jewish voters in NYC shifting from Schumer toward AOC isn’t just about differences in policies on Israel. Assuming the poll captures a representative sample, a group of voters who reliably turn out in elections and mostly vote Democrat are expressing a lack of confidence in their long-time Dem representative. Schumer’s considered a leader in his party, but his constituents aren’t happy with his leadership and favor a wildly different candidate when asked to choose between the two.

A lot can change between now and 2028, but the Dems should take notice. Schumer’s unpopular and for good reason and even voters who might be expected to have some affinity for him want him out.

by Anonymousreply 14May 28, 2025 9:52 PM

Chuck should retire with dignity in ‘28 and endorse Ritchie Torres.

by Anonymousreply 15May 28, 2025 9:56 PM

R15 Richie Torres? The Ritchie Torres who represents the poorest neighborhood in the entire country but spends most of his time traveling around the country preaching Israeli propaganda, AND somehow finds even more time inbetween speaking gigs paid for by AIPAC to fight with YouTubers/Twitch streamers over Israel? That Ritchie Torres? Lol fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 16May 28, 2025 11:28 PM

Democrats sure love representatives who think their job is to serve a genocidal foreign government.

by Anonymousreply 17May 28, 2025 11:30 PM

You first R15.

by Anonymousreply 18May 28, 2025 11:46 PM

Will Kitara Ravache be the GOP nominee?

by Anonymousreply 19May 29, 2025 12:18 AM

With any luck R19!

by Anonymousreply 20May 29, 2025 12:19 AM
I would give anything to kick Schumer into the gutter where he belongs, the useless sack of spineless gristle

This statement may come back to haunt you in the future, especially if the rethugs take the seat after running against AOC.

I don't like Schumer, but he's preferrable to any rethug as they inch closer and closer to a fillibuster proof majority.

by Anonymousreply 21May 29, 2025 2:11 AM

I believe they need 7 more seats? Not going to happen!

by Anonymousreply 22May 29, 2025 2:13 AM

If even the Jews are backing one of the handful of people in Congress not taking money from AIPAC, the geriatrics of DL are fucking delusional if they think there's any chance in hell AOC is losing that seat.

by Anonymousreply 23May 29, 2025 2:17 AM

R15 this should happen...

... and, AOC will likely be in the Dem National Primaries... for a while anyway... in 2028.

by Anonymousreply 24May 29, 2025 2:41 AM

That's hilarious R15. You can't be serious.

by Anonymousreply 25May 29, 2025 2:46 AM

Some of you actually believe a Republican would win a Senate seat over AOC?

Newsflash: everyone is not an elderly white person with a retirement account.

by Anonymousreply 26May 29, 2025 3:07 AM

As R1 mentioned, R26c New York state is far redder than NYC would have you believe. AOC is a high profile target for the poorly informed, and her policies contradict the interests of the Big Money that backs Schumer. There would be a hard fight against her, and she’s a higher risk candidate than someone who shares Schumer’s views and financial interests.

I would far prefer her to him, but it’s naive to imagine she’d be a shoe-in.

by Anonymousreply 27May 29, 2025 3:30 AM
Chuck should retire with dignity in ‘28 and endorse Ritchie Torres.

I don't know whether Ritchie Torres would be the best choice, but I agree that Schumer should retire in 2028.

The issue here is bigger than Schumer -- it is that too many politicians stay in office into old age. We have already had several Democrats die in the House this year. Schumer will be 78 in November 2028 -- why run for another 6 year term at that point and be in office into his 80's? Why not follow Dick Durbin's example and retire at the appropriate time?

by Anonymousreply 28May 29, 2025 8:02 AM

Ah yes, polls. Remind me - how much did Kamala win Iowa by again?

by Anonymousreply 29May 29, 2025 9:43 AM

R26, Trump won because Gen X gave him the win. Seniors split 50/50 between him and Harris. He made big gains with younger voters as well.

This poll shows Schumer is unpopular now. That’s about it.

by Anonymousreply 30May 29, 2025 10:04 AM

Schumer is a fucking joke. He needs to go and do it yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 31May 29, 2025 10:24 AM

Trump had won Generation X before. That wasn’t new. The big change in very young men is what put Trump over the top, driven in part by divisive on-line messaging about topics like the Middle East.

Very similar to Hitler in the 30s

by Anonymousreply 32May 29, 2025 10:26 AM

I'm convinced people who rabidly hate AOC on DL have never actually paid attention to her in congress, or seen her speak.

by Anonymousreply 33May 29, 2025 10:37 AM

R14 Oh, for fuck's sake--no Jew has a problem with anyone criticizing Netenyahu. 95% of us do the same and have never had a problem with honest criticism of Israeli policies. What we DO have a problem with is calling for the annihilation of the state Israel.

Zionist does not equal Likudnik or Kahanist or expansionist. Most Israelis regard the settlers the way we do alt-right nutters. The way westerners talk about Zionism makes it so laugingly obvious they know nothing about the politics of Israel or the ME. Even the far-right Netenyahu would be the equivalent of your run-of-the-mill American neocon--about on par with a Bush or Cheney.

by Anonymousreply 34May 29, 2025 10:47 AM

Not surprising if Schumer is losing support but this unknown poll company did a niche and paltry survey:

“The phone text poll of 1,136 Democrats, conducted from May 15-18, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.89 percentage points.” - NYP
This statement may come back to haunt you in the future, especially if the rethugs take the seat after running against AOC.

😂 This is utter bullshit. AOC isn’t losing that election to a Republican. Whoever wins the primary, wins the general election.

by Anonymousreply 36May 29, 2025 11:00 AM

Trump made big gains in NY in areas where POC predominate. It is quite possible that a Republican could win a state wide election in both NY and NJ.

by Anonymousreply 37May 29, 2025 11:21 AM

I could see a law and order candidate doing very well with Latino voters in NY. Democrats still don’t understand how out of touch they are with many voters.

by Anonymousreply 38May 29, 2025 11:23 AM

R19 Please yes. The world is so much more boring without her.

by Anonymousreply 39May 29, 2025 11:28 AM

It would be interesting to understand how many people on this thread actually live in New York State.

I have nothing bad to say about AOC. I’d vote for her over any Republican running for the senate.

But anyone thinking that New York State is a safe bet for Democrats is delulu as Al D’amato and George Pataki could tell you. AOC is potentially vulnerable against someone like Lawler.

by Anonymousreply 40May 29, 2025 11:32 AM

I'm not a fan, but she has come a long way. She listened and watched, and I think she now has an understanding of how to get things done in the right way. I don't live in New York, so I'm not sure if primarying Schumer is a good idea or not, but now is the time for Democrats to take some chances - if they're going to take them. We will regain the House in the midterms; the Senate will be tougher. Democrats are energized and may actually get off their asses and vote this time.

by Anonymousreply 41May 29, 2025 11:39 AM

Trump's knack for getting poorly informed and only sporadic voters to come out for him is sui generis.

Your average Republican doesn't have that juice. Certainly LEE ZELDIN doesn't have it. He lost to fucking Hochul.

There isn't a New York Republican who could beat her.

(Not that I think Schumer is going to retire and she wouldn't primary him...)

by Anonymousreply 42May 29, 2025 12:27 PM

Al D'amato? George Pataki? A lot of you seem to think it's still 2006.

by Anonymousreply 43May 29, 2025 12:37 PM

I think Lawler could beat AOC and I’m not kidding. But I actually live in NY and see what’s going on. However, the Senate election is more than 3 years away so who knows.

by Anonymousreply 44May 29, 2025 12:46 PM

"I'll have you know, New York City elected a Republican mayor just a few short years ago. Does the name 'Giuliani' mean anything to you youngsters? Look him up on your iPods or The MyFace or whatever that nonsense is called."

by Anonymousreply 45May 29, 2025 1:01 PM

Is there a more out of touch demographics on earth than geriatrics who frequent DL? The Jews AND the independents have all proven you wrong. Just give it up and stop embarrasing your kind.

by Anonymousreply 46May 29, 2025 1:44 PM

That was my point, R34. Do learn what “astroturfing” is.

by Anonymousreply 47May 29, 2025 4:28 PM

Don’t knock Schumer. He writes strongly worded letters.

by Anonymousreply 48May 29, 2025 6:09 PM

R45 New York City wouldn’t elect a Republican now. Giuliani would not be possible. But the parts of New York State that are outside New York City are more conservative than they were in 2006.

People who think statewide is safe for progressive democrats because citywide is safe for progressive democrats are mistaken. Things *might* be different in 2028, but outside the boroughs the state resembles Pennsylvania.

by Anonymousreply 49May 29, 2025 9:17 PM

That's right, R48. And sometimes he is [italic]stern[/italic]. His friends the Baileys just love him.

by Anonymousreply 50May 29, 2025 9:45 PM

R49 has a point, but it's incumbent on the Rs, then, to nominate someone who isn't a total lunatic. And Republicans have a deep bench of crazy. They can't seem to nominate a normal human being. The vast majority of non-NYC voters in New York State are in the NYC suburbs and they are not good with the loonie Right.

by Anonymousreply 51May 31, 2025 10:12 AM

MAGAT Blakeman got elected county executive in Nassau, so lunacy can win even in a swing district.

I think the Republicans are likely going to run a more moderate candidate like Lawler though. In a race between AOC and Lawler, I think we’d stand a very good chance of losing the Senate seat.

by Anonymousreply 52May 31, 2025 11:19 AM

People who think Republicans will nominate some milquetoast George Pataki type that the "moderates" will prefer and cause Dems to cross over and vote Republican against the dreaded-no-good-truly-awful bad person AOC are delusional. Number one, that type of Republican doesn't exist anymore. They'll nominate some lunatic like Elise Stefanik who makes AOC look like Barbara Bush in comparison. Number two, most actual Democrats, and I mean voters and not the DNC, don't see AOC as all that radical. Even (true) moderates, not crypto-Republicans with a D on their voter registration, will side with AOC over a Trumpist demagogue every single time.

by Anonymousreply 53May 31, 2025 4:17 PM

Lawler exists. Saying he doesn’t exist doesn’t make him disappear.

He won the house race for Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester (the Hudson valley suburbs) against incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney (moderate) and then he won against semi-incumbent Mondaire Jones. (progressive.)

I sure hope the Republicans run unattractive, extreme Lake George denizen Stefanik. AOC could certainly win in that matchup.

by Anonymousreply 54May 31, 2025 6:44 PM

Stefanik was persuaded to cancel her resignation for an administration job as they were worried her red district (on the Canadian border with unpopular tariff posturing) might flip.

by Anonymousreply 55May 31, 2025 7:37 PM

AOC will not automatically win against Stefanik. AOC is associated with many policies that are not popular in NY…reparations, defund the police, anti Israel, sanctuary cities etc. I know she’s moved to the middle recently but she’s still the poster girl for the Squad.

by Anonymousreply 56May 31, 2025 7:52 PM

AOC is associated with those policies by people who hate her. She has never lifted a finger to implement reparations or to defund the police.

It's funny how the "politically savvy" usually regurgitate Murdoch talking points.

by Anonymousreply 57May 31, 2025 8:08 PM

It’s true that AOC is very smart, has good political instincts and is the most moderate member of the squad. I like her a lot.

It is also true that demographically she has challenges to winning statewide in New York at this time, especially if Republicans have the sense to run a moderate from the ‘burbs against her.
