Was Ann Romano a good mother?
She gets a lot of shit for being selfish and self-absorbed, but she raised two decent, well-adjusted girls. Both found stable men to marry.
She also took Alex in when his mother was too busy to take care of him.
She was no Alice and Tawmy. But she had her moments.

OP, she was just trying to take it one day at a time.

"two decent, well-adjusted girls"
Um, did you watch the same show the rest of us watched?

Her daughters both outlived her. So no.

That's right R4. One day when I have oodles of time on my hands I'll cut together all the scenes where Ann punches or slaps someone in the nine-season run and it will be as long as a standalone episode.
Did she ever hit Shelley Fabares, Nannette Fabray, or Michael Lembeck or Boyd Gaynes?

No better than Alice Hyatt.

A vicious flat chested ginger dwarf who screamed and slapped the dogshit out of her daughters to keep them from acting like whores and off smack.
She was unsuccessful, so then she brought a precocious baby homosexual into her shitty apartment. She screamed and smacked the dogshit out of him to keep him from being a dirty cocksucker. She was unsuccessful again.
So no, she was not a good mother.

Ann attended the Joan Crawford School for Single Mothers. Disciplining high spirited children was heavily emphasized in the curriculum.

Ann did not seem maternal or warm, unlike Alice Hyatt.

Ann's profound and searching self-analysis prompted by her 36th birthday revealed that she was ultimately not only a good mother, but also a good philosopher.

She failed to teach those sluts tap or softshoe.
Julie could have made them money dancing on a speedball if she had tap training. Barbara would have had a smaller ass.

Julie inherited Ann's fried egg titties. Barbara had big old jugs, though. Are we sure she wasn't adopted?

What the fuck, Datalounge? This is an ANN ROMANO THREAD, it should be closing in on 600 posts by now.
Have we (finally, thankfully) run out of things to say about this cunt?

Now I'm imagining a downmarket fragrance sold at drug stores.

Why did every 80s sitcom start with an opener sing-song culminating in a car being driven down a road? Non-stop, one after another a so-called “protagonist” driving on a flippin’ highway? Well whoopie! Sometimes they all just copied each other’s ideas.

She's Bonnie in the Applause clip, Mizz Romano on ODAAT and now Nellie Forush. She is exactly the same in every single thing she does. This performance prompted Sylvia Fine Kaye to call her "a revelation". Poor senile old thing.

It now seems especially weird because the 70s were the heyday of American serial killers, thanks to the interstate freeway system.
In retrospect, I think they were trying to tell us that Mary Richards, Alice Hyatt, Larry Adler (from "Hello Larry"), and Ann Romano were all likely serial killers.

That evil little ginger dwarf really thought she was a sexy little thing, flopping around that stage in that purple top and showing off her pasty , unappealing midriff.
Just like the horror of her fried egg tits flopping out of that nasty green top on the cover of People-the ginger dwarf did her damnedest to create a sexy image.
Her handlers should have stopped her. She was no MILF. She was best suited to playing Pazuzu in an Exorcist sequel, or perhaps playing a vicious headmistress in an orphanage-BUT NOT AS MISS HANNIGAN. Nobody needed to hear that asshole sing.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 5, 2025 6:19 PM

But we all needed to see that asshole dance, because as we all know, Bonnie Franklin hated to exercise, but she loved to tap.
