Starts at 9pm Pacific Time and 12 midnight Eastern.

It has joined the ranks of classic movies!

I can quit it.

Is it even 20?

by Anonymousreply 2May 23, 2025 2:52 AM

Brokeback Mountain actually turns 20 this year, R7.

It "came out" in 2005.

Starts in 10 minutes!

Ben Mankeiwicz just did an amazing introduction to the movie on TCM.

I loved how he talked about broken stereotypes, and how in the old West, same sex dances were held with men wearing bandanas on their arms to signify who was the "woman" for the night, as well as how some even entered into same sex relationships in the old West, due to there being no women living in the frontier with them.

I'm so glad that the hosts are educating people about same sex history of the old West.

After the movie, Ben Mankiewicz pointed out that "Crash," which won best picture over "Brokeback," hasn't held up well at all some 20 years later. I watched it tonight for the first time in many years and was sort of a mess by the end.

I wish I knew how to quit TCM!

For those interested in seeing it on the big screen, it's being shown in select theaters at the end of June.

I was having people over to watch the Oscars that night in 2006. As soon as Jack Nicholson said, “Crash”, the air just went out of the room and the night was over. It was made worse that Lee had won Best Director so we had our hopes up.

I think TCM showed it this month because Westerns are their "spotlight" for May.

I saw it on opening night at Midtown Art theater in Atlanta. It was sold out and the seats were awful, up front and by the wall. I wish I remembered the crowd reaction to Anne Hathaway stripping off. “Ewwww!”

I wish I had taken a picture of the Marquee, but several years ago at a budget theater in Illinois, there was the double feature of Curious George and Brokeback Mountain.
