Not surprisingly the writing is clunky and repetitious. I admit to enjoying the gossip.

Basically the book argues that Biden's health issues were apparent and concerning through his entire first term but his inner circle refused any discussion of the subject. His closest aids were more like family members and circled the wagons when it came to suggestions that Biden's constant stepping on rakes, poor stamina, poor memory, incoherent speeches indicated he was in bad shape.. Four of Biden's closest advisors were the only people Biden listened to. People in his administration said they were basically running the country. Obama said he thought Biden's long term advisors were not politically astute.

The book goes on and on in this forensic vein, how Dems like Nancy Pelosi were shielded from Biden's decline and since his record so far was strong there was little reason to dump him. And the point was made that Washington has a history of protecting incapacitated senators and even Presidents.. (Was Kennedy really high on drugs during the Bay of Pigs crisis?)

Whether any of these disclosures, assuming they're an accurate picture of Biden's term are 'lessons' for the Dems, not sure what hose wold be. Don't pick an old guy next time? I read the book. It made me furious…not at Biden but at Tapper. I read it because I’m interested in what happened to get us into this mess so I was open to hearing some Biden bashing.

Jill and family were apparently urging him to run and so did several of his close top aides, apparently tor their own career and financial self-interests. Whether or not Biden had a cognitive evaluation by his physicians just prior to the campaign is unclear.

The failure was timing. He should have exited before the primary season started, or better yet, stuck to his original stance of not seeking a second term.

I hate to be repetitious, but We knew Biden was old in 2020. We had an insurrection led by Trump in 2021, January 6th. Biden and his staff failed at two things, IMO. He failed to highlight and promote his VP, instead made her invisible for 2 and a half years or more. And even more important, he failed to vigorously prosecute the insurrectionists including members of Congress and Trump himself. The hearings Pelosi and Congress finally conducted were necessary so people could appreciate the full scope of the planning for the insurrection. But those hearings should have happened by March or April of 2021. And they should have had the White House on board. Garland was a fucking disaster as AG. The entire matter of investigating and prosecuting the January 6th gang should have been done by a separate Special Commission with a Special Prosecutor and it should have been done simultaneously in all 50 states.

Joe had choices to make. He chose to look forward and try to unify Congress to get his legislative program passed. He chose to leave the investigating to Garland. Looking forward and unifying is a good thing. But you ought to be able to chew gum and skip rope at the same time. If he had removed t he Investigation and set up a special commission, etc. And the hearings were national he could have still got his agenda passed. Failing to promote his successor did all of us serious damage. The so called Jake Tapper "cover up" was t he least of it. All the people who wring their hands about Trump and blame the Biden "cover up" IMO are missing several key points. Trump should be in prison not in the Oval office. Biden was wrong to run for a second term. Totally wrong. And Harris would have been in a stronger position if we had had four years to get to know her and see her being "Presidential." I will add that since Tapper, a so-called journalist, has stepped out here people need to hold the Media accountable for their role in helping Trump get elected. Because, IMO, the whole "How could we have let this happen?" question is not simply about a cover up.

Make no mistake, the reason Trump won, in the simplest terms, is because Biden held on too long and wasn't honest about his health even with himself, apparently, and didn't announce his intention to step down after one term, allowing an open primary to happen well in advance of the party's convention.

Instead Dems propped him up like a long Weekend at Bernie's, their online operatives flooded us with tales of "Mighty Joe Biden," while those of us with functioning brain cells looked on in horror.

Yes, I know. I'm "MAGA," but I'm actually a staunch Democrat who's voted the ticket in every election since 1988. If those of your with your heads up Biden's ass (for god knows what reason at this point) don't start considering the opinions of people like me, your fellow Democrats, Trump and his followers will continue to win and Dems will be lost to the ash heap of history.

I’m not sure Joe could have done anything to make Kamala a viable candidate. But allowing for a primary much earlier would have been way more helpful for the party.

So 53,737 sold the first week. I guess CNN/Discovery purchased books to hand out to employees? LOL! All the hype was frontloaded so Jake and his publisher could cash out before the book dies a quick and wholly expected death. Other Journalists at CNN or formerly at CNN wrote books. I don't recall any of them getting so much promotion from the network. Anderson promoted his book, but I don't think his colleagues had to hold up copies and shill for him. And somehow when Anderson did it he wasn't so obnoxious.

This is going to get interesting. Not so much the Biden getting lost in his own WH walk in closet story , but if Biden Senior staff signed bills and pardons with the presidential auto pen for a president the feds may argue had little idea what is going on.

True or not is not the issue , this is a story that could suck air out of the room for weeks if not months. Congressional hearings is my bet.
