Same thing with her sexual abuse - she's been on SVU for 25 years - and just last year came forward with her sexual abuse story?
Feels like she's grasping for new things to keep her name in the headlines.
She lucked out on this weirdly popular show and that's it. There will be no more. Accept it and move along. Tired of this dripping of 'new' and 'shocking' information from her.

When she won the Emmy in 20006, she thanked her father but didn't name him.
[quote]"But mostly I want to thank my father, because he is the reason that I am standing here today. I'm so proud to be your daughter, Dad. I can't wait to celebrate this with you."

Yes, she’s a nepo baby. Her (supposed) dad Mickey Hargitay was a celebrity, as well. Her parentage opened doors, even if from just grim curiosity.

Not true. She wasn’t a big name but had been a working actress for 15 years before getting SVU.
Yea she was talking about Hargitay R30. He was dying and had attended many of the award shows where she was nominated.
She saw her bio dad when she was 30 but didn’t warm up to him or her half sisters until later. Even after establishing a relationship with them it took her years to acknowledge that they were her sisters.

Why do people get some angry and bitter about "nepo" babies? What's the big fucking deal? Who CARES? Are they taking a job away from you?
As for nepos, they rise as far they can...mommy or daddy's name might get them in the door and even an opportunity or two, but if they suck, are a problem, or don't work hard at it, they don't tend to go very far.
In Mariska's case I doubt being the daughter of those two helped her at all. By the time she was starting her career, her mother had been dead for nearly 20 years. Her "father"'s sole claim to fame was being a hot body builder and married to a much bigger name. There was no "clout" for Mariska to take any advantage of.

R41 yikes, I just assumed this had been determined for fact if she's putting it out there like this. I don't even see a resemblance to be honest.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 18, 2025 3:43 PM |
[quote] In her 20s, someone showed Hargitay a photo of Sardelli. She immediately knew in her bones that he was her biological father. “It was like the floor fell out from underneath me,” she recalls in My Mom Jayne. “Like my infrastructure dissolved.” But when she confronted Mickey, he denied it. The encounter was so shattering that she swept the skeleton back under the family rug and never mentioned Sardelli to Mickey again. (Mickey died in 2006.)
She truly is a dingbat. There’s no proof that he’s her father. Sounds like she had borderline personality disorder. She can’t stop telling lies.

by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 18, 2025 4:23 PM |
Reading the entire article, we learn that Jayne Mansfield had separated from Hargisay before going back to him in the year before Mariska'a birth and my guess is that Mariska has done a little back-of- the-envelope math to figure out that she had to have been conceived during that separation
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 18, 2025 4:24 PM |
Mariska has an olive complexion that looks very Italian to me. She has a lot of her mother's features, but their skin tones are quite different. Her bio dad being of Italian ancestry sort of makes sense.

She was actually quite good in SVU for many seasons. It was a well done show. But around season 16 or so the whole program changed to being about Olivia and Olivia's kid and Olivia's life and Olivia and Olivia and Olivia. It's almost as if she might be something of a prima donna.
The other weird part of the show is that when it started, she was quite attractive. Her looks are long gone, but the scripts, which as executive producer she supervises, almost always discuss how beautiful she is. Now.

Reminds me of the GOLDEN GIRLS episode where Rose believes that Bob Hope is her father.
ROSE: Bob Hope is my father. Well, sort of. I mean, he could be, maybe. There's something I've never told you girls. I spent the first 8 years of my life at the St. Olaf Orphanage. I loved my adoptive parents so much, I really never think about it, but I sure did before I became their daughter. When I was at the orphanage, I used to daydream all the time that my real parents would knock on the door and take me away. So, like most of the kids there, I started fantasizing about who they might be. I had a particularly clear picture in my head of my father. Anyway, one day, they took us all to the movies, and when Bob Hope came on the screen, I stood up and yelled, "My God, that's my father! That's him!"
😂

Does anyone care or really think she was lying in the classic sense? If Mickey Hartigay raised her and was a father figure, most people wouldn't have a huge problem with Mariska considering him her father. The biodad seems more of an issue for her. Why would we care?

As someone who fairly recently found out the real identity of his father (on the cusp of 50), daddy stuff goes deep, especially if there's a lack of certainty and people aren't telling you everything. The significance of your father's identity winds up taking on much more significance and can be hard to understand for people who have never had to give any thought to who their father was.

[quote]Why do people get some angry and bitter about "nepo" babies? What's the big fucking deal?
Because they're disgusting. A lot of ugly nepo kids have gotten jobs as models and they're UGLY.
Then there are the nepo actors who give out interviews about how hard they worked to get a role. The reality is that none of them would have gotten their foot in the door for an audition. And they don't understand that. They truly have no idea of how hard it is to break into acting.
People don't want to hear a bunch of nonsense from people who have had everything in their lives handed to them on a silver platter
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 19, 2025 6:31 AM |
The Nepo actors seem to sink or swim. The parents can get them an agent and pay for classes, and if they have the power, cast them in their projects, but that’s the extent of it. If they don’t work on screen, if they have no skills and charisma, the audience aren’t interested. Take Michael Douglas - he was a star in his own right, his siblings weren’t.
The Nepo models - often short, with bad walks, and faces that are attractive but not in a strikingly model-like way - seem to hang around like bad smells.

This was never going to be a totally objective look at the life of Jayne Mansfield but I think Mariela did a very good job with the film. It is pretty amazing how well Mariska, Jayne, Miklos and Zoltan turned out considering all of the childhood trauma they had. Tony Cimber seems to have come out the worst of all five of Jayne’s children; he did not seem like a happy guy at all.

I get that it can be very easy to hide big family secrets when the person who has that secret wants it that way. I'm a 64 year old gay guy, my oldest sister is five years older. It wasn't until I was in my mid-20s that I found out she's my half-sister, and I didn't find out from my parents. I was hanging out at a friend's house that I went to church with and so his parents knew mine. My friend's dad mentioned in passing that my oldest sister was my half-sister, thinking that I knew, and until that moment I didn't.
I was never close to that sister until 15 years ago when her son committed suicide and she had to fly back to town to deal with the aftermath. Now she's the only sib I'm close to. I asked her about it a few years back and she had always known since she remembered her biological father. So yeah, people can hold secrets close when they want to.

Better than I expected. I would like to know more about the stepmother and her siblings. The grandmother seems like she was a piece of work. With all the armchair psychology, I’m surprised no one mentioned that Mansfield probably couldn’t live on her own for more than 5 minutes.
Tony seems to make exploitation crap. He came across as a very unhappy, slightly scary guy. I’m guessing Strait was a lowlife. I wonder if the fan club guy was some big old queen.

Zoltan has features that clearly look like Micky.
Mariska does look Italian and not like the others.

Ada is really annoying, making the servants take the pledge.
The actress playing Gladys is terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | June 30, 2025 2:07 AM |
Did anyone else notice that Zoltan’s left eye was green while his right eye was brown?
by Anonymous | reply 124 | June 30, 2025 3:30 AM |
Like this movie or Mariska will need to send for a bus.

Paragraph 2 of R126's link.
Anyone else see the "Oh Dear" in that paragraph?

I'm now pronouncing her name MarISHka in my head.
I don't like her.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | June 30, 2025 5:18 AM |
I personally don't like documentaries made about one's self. They're not objective and they're very self-indulgent. "Is the camera ready? Okay now ask me questions about myself!"
by Anonymous | reply 130 | June 30, 2025 5:22 AM |
I love Marishka Manshfield!

Is it weird that she doesn’t have any memories of Jayne? I have memories from when I was 2 or 3.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | June 30, 2025 10:31 AM |
She remembers odd bits of things and how Jayne's voice wasn't breathy all the time. Her story is different at the beginning than at the end of teh special. Despite the long list of credits, I guess there wasn't a competent continuity person.

[quote]I wonder how many gay men her bodybuilder father had to please when he was starting out.
It was Mae West that he had to put out for when he joined her muscleman revue.
That's what kickstarted his career.

R134 she actually hand-picked him.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | June 30, 2025 11:59 AM |
Is hand-picked a euphemism?
by Anonymous | reply 136 | June 30, 2025 12:00 PM |
I meant she saw his picture and wanted him for her show, so he had to "audition," if you know what I mean.
Mae West was a lech.

You know it's true.

R132 did your mother die in a violent crash in which you were also present? Seems like that could be a factor
by Anonymous | reply 139 | June 30, 2025 2:55 PM |
She's very bosomy on The View. Her mum would be proud.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | July 1, 2025 12:02 AM |
Seems like she's leaving bread crumbs of revelations every 12-18 months. Didn't she talk about her rape from almost 40 years ago just last year for the first time?
She's been on a sex abuse show for over 25 years and just NOW she talks about it?
Now it's her real father? Mickey Hargitay has been dead for almost 20 years.
She annoys me. She had a c-list acting career for her entire life, then lucked into this role. I have a feeling she wants to leave the show and do something else which is why she's getting some other stuff out there.
This feels very unnatural and weird. Why sit on these 'secrets' for over 20 years?

Is Matt Cimber interviewed? He was Jaynes third husband and is still alive, at 89.

No but their son Tony gets a few minutes.

She's a third-rate actress, nowhere near as popular as most of the people they have hosting SNL.

I don't get the hate. She lucked into a dream gig of sorts, and worked pretty steadily before nabbing it. It's kind of wild, but completely understandable, why those kids left that storage locker alone for decades. I always was curious how I'd deal if something horrific like surviving a fatal accident happened to me as a kid, add to that the child of celebrity, and not just any celebrity, but the one who had a wicked ton of icky, publicly known details about every last misstep she made - and I probably would have had to lock it away inside too.
Likable everybody, and there seems like palpable love between the siblings. Mickey seems like an amazing dad, as does Nelson. And Peter seems like a dream. Do I wish she touched on the Lavey stuff? Of course, but I totally understand why she didn't. Would love to actually hear the brothers recollections sometime. But very good, and strangely moving in ways I didn't expect, and I know a fair amount about Jayne but this still hit.

When I mention the famous photo of Sophia Loren glancing sidelong at Mansfield’s exposed bosom, Hargitay’s face crumples. “That was a rough one. To see another woman look at your mom like that was excruciating for me as a little girl.”
Mariska should have confronted Sophia about that stink-eye!
by Anonymous | reply 158 | July 1, 2025 5:45 PM |
^^^^^
Excruciating? Why? It’s actually pretty funny.
If Jayne were my mom, I’d think, “Wow! Sophia Loren is sitting at my mother’s table!”
by Anonymous | reply 159 | July 1, 2025 8:19 PM |
Mariska didn't change her surname when she married Peter Hermann so I guess she won't be changing it for her new found father either.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | July 1, 2025 9:34 PM |
Mariska wasn't upset about her mom deliberately nearly spilling her tits on the tablr for attention and she begrudges Loren for a perfectly normal reaction? Jesus.

“I’ve had so much strife and turmoil with this word mother—and here I was, this iconic mother figure in the culture. Isn’t that ironic?”
by Anonymous | reply 162 | July 1, 2025 11:34 PM |
When she was 30, Hargitay went to see Sardelli perform in Atlantic City and introduced herself. He burst into tears—telling her, “I’ve been waiting 30 years for this moment.” It wasn’t a fairy-tale scene for Hargitay, though. “I went full Olivia Benson on him,” she tells me, switching into an icily aggressive voice. “I was like, ‘I don’t want anything, I don’t need anything from you.… I have a dad.’”
