Favorite youtube channels (for whatever)

I've become obsessed with the youtube channel Periscope Films that has a plethora of educational films, historical/political documentaries and newsreels, random travel logs as well as hour long videos of old commercials, all dating back from the 19 teens to the mid 80's. Mostly american but also from other countries. If you're obsessed with random obscure, old shit then this is heaven on earth. One of my favorites is this oldie educational reel on the many ways to use Campbell's soup

Anyway anyone else have cool/interesting channels to recommend

White Slaves of Chinatown.

It's a great collection of obscure campy exploitation movies. Linda Blair in an East German prison in Red Heat (1985)? Fuego (1969), the Argentinian film that clearly inspired Female Trouble? The Stepmother, featuring step-incest, Alejandro Rey, and Larry Linville?

IT'S ALL HERE!

R8 looks good R8. I had no idea Fuego inspired Female Trouble. As an argentine, I feel proud. There are a bunch of other trashy B Isabel Sarli films on youtube which are a hoot. You might not see them in english but it really doesnt make much difference w/these films lol

My gag reflex kicked in when that woman in the Campbell’s Soup promo video showed MUSHROOM muffins made with cream of mushroom soup, and when she started mixing gelatin with cream of chicken soup I had to stop playing the video. She had all the charm of a prison guard too.

The British guys on Sorted Food are fun an interesting to watch.

Robert's Retro Rewind (which I've recommended on other threads) has great video compilations of cancelled TV series from the past with rare and unique clips.

I enjoy some of the America's Test Kitchen videos. And the Babish and Jonnycakes videos where they rank different foods. Epicurious has some too, but they're not as good.

I started following Joe and Nic's Road Trip after a recommendation in another DL thread. It's 90% Joe, which is just as well -- Nicole is a pretty nice girl, but she doesn't have a lot to say (or is not comfortable on camera). He's low-key, but has an for beauty, including desolate beauty of which there's a lot in rural America. Check out their recent tour of a "last-size" (huge) model of Noah's Ark -- he's quietly gonsmacked, but can't help but note the craftsmanship that went in to this enormous folly

This content creator I mentioned in r41 is an actual makeup artist… not just someone who likes makeup. She’s done a few videos on movie characters: here it’s Alex Forrest.

It occurred to me while revisiting this one for the thread that a huge part of what makes a YouTube channel appealing is you simply have to like its creator. This may not be a GROUNDBREAKING makeup video, but I like listening to this lady, Sam Chapman. I imagine we could be friends : )

It’s just like how Julia Roberts and George Clooney may not be the most AMAZING actors ever… but nevertheless, we all like them. Being with them for 2 hours is pleasurable. So we buy tickets, or tune in.

[quote] Ben and David

These two have turned their once fun channel into nothing but clickbait. Outrageous headlines on the teaser image that have nothing to do with the content.

Also, I lost a huge amount of respect when Ben obviously lied about taking Ozempic or a similar drug when he easily dropped at least a third of his body weight in two months.

“Exercise and portion control.” Bullshit. They basically live on cruise ships and never discuss the gym facilities.

Cannot watch liars and click baiters.

New Castle After Dark - old 70s and 80s horror movies, many made for TV. I love old horror movies and this is a fun channel.

Esoterica. Really obscure historical occult and magic channel. We’re talking Babylonian, Medieval or Renaissance. Strange, fascinating, well researched and Dr Sledge has a wicked sense of humor.

Wartime Stories. Ex Military guy reads stories of weird shit observed/encountered/reported by current or former military personnel.

Cryptids, UFOs, monster animals, ghosts, Bigfoot - crazy stuff like that. So interesting. Stories aren’t just from US military, either. Some of the stories out of Asia are hair raising.

The one about the giant fucking snake slithering out of a river and eating a cow somewhere in South America ( I forgot what country - I was really unnerved by the story) is something I won’t forget.

ThatDudeCanCook - Sonny Hurrell had a long career as a line cook and head chef, and shares his no-frills, practical cooking techniques with a dash of silly humor. I'm not fond of the running gag where his dish turns out so wonderfully he beats his refrigerator to death, but his producer/sidekick Marcus is the most edible thing on the channel. You'll want to lift your muumuu and purr, "YUM."

Nemo's Dreamscapes - Long (two to twelve hour) relaxation videos that combine instrumental music or 20th century standards with ambient noise. Excellent for background noise while you're working, and I've found them to be effective sleep aids as well.

BOZE vs THE WORLD - I'm not huge on true crime, but this young lady is carving herself a nice size piece of that audience. Boze has a disarming, Wendy Williams sort of personality that makes whatever nonsense she's talking about fun. I'm a bigger fan of one of her alternate channels (Best of Bodycam w. Boze) where she reacts to police body cam videos and comically picks apart the neuroses of the perp.

Girl With The Dogs - Vanessa is a Canadian pet groomer who takes dogs and cats that other groomers can't or won't handle. She does this for free in exchange for filming the groom as content for her channel. Her dry humor makes the narration of the videos fun to watch. This is one of the rare examples of social media doing good in the world. The owners get their difficult pets a quality grooming for nothing while Vanessa assuredly makes big money with over 3 million subscribers, product and merch sales, and a series of online grooming classes. I love to see someone get rich by helping people.

SB Mowing - Similar to Vanessa above, cutie patootie Spencer finds ridiculously overgrown yards and gives them pristine cuts for free in exchange for the content. There are dozens of these channels on YouTube, but he's my favorite and IMO the most genuine. He also has a pressure washing channel in the same vein. Many people would liken watching a lawn get mowed to watching paint dry, but many others find it soothing.

The Little Rascals - The original shorts posted by Crackle.

The Luxury Travel Expert - Gorgeous hi-def videos of first class flights, luxury hotels, and beautiful exclusive resorts. Unlike the other channels with the creator constantly mugging into the camera, this man never shows himself or speaks, allowing the footage to speak for itself.

For my fellow game show lovers, we have, of course, What's My Line? (@What'sMyLine), Password (@Password5737) (several hundred episodes of the original 1960s version), MG Productions (thousands of episodes of Match Game 7x along with other 1970s shows like Family Feud and Password Plus), and Wink Martindale Games (TONS of rare & forgotten shows along with dozens of unsold pilots).

That dog/cat grooming girl is fun to watch.

I’ve watched a few of her videos and it’s nice to watch an animal get taken care of, de-matted, cleaned up, clipped and brushed.

Some of those poor animals are just sad. I understand, though. My old dog has always hated to be brushed because the family who had her before let the “special needs” brat abuse her. So she was terrified of a brush.

Fucking brat.
