Why do people today feel the need to have strong opinions on things that don’t affect them?

The Gaza situation is a perfect example. This is a messy situation with assholes on both sides and a complex history, yet every college student and wokie who is neither Jewish nor Muslim nor has any historical connection to that land feels the need to riot and protest and bitch about Israel. Besides It’s not like the Palestinians didn’t have 500 chances to stop attacking Israel.

It’s different with something like abortion rights because everyone has women in their family and this affects everyone.

About EVERYTHING! Especially about what words other people must or must not use!

Bitch, I'm sixty-two and lived through the AIDS epidemic, I don't need a twenty-six year-old hall monitor!

by Anonymousreply 1May 14, 2025 2:02 AM

NOT CARING IS LITERAL VIOLENCE.

by Anonymousreply 2May 14, 2025 2:06 AM

Imagine if you could go back in time and help the Jewish population of Europe in the 1930s and 1940s, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3May 14, 2025 2:11 AM

I guess some people just hate ethnic cleaning, mass murder and genocide.

Well shut the fuck up, hippies, it doesn't affect you!

Every stupid human being with an opinion about bombing babies, bombing hospitals, schools, women, children, starving 2 million people to drive them out or kill them, well: it's not your child, you asshole. It's not your hospital!

Keep your head down, and shut up! Know your place

by Anonymousreply 4May 14, 2025 2:12 AM

It’s altruistic narcissism. Low effort to be the hero

by Anonymousreply 5May 14, 2025 2:12 AM

lol autocorrect changing "ethnic cleansing" to "ethnic cleaning".

So clean!

by Anonymousreply 6May 14, 2025 2:13 AM

Israel is committing war crimes by killing civilians. The US did the same in Vietnam. Killing civilians is always wrong.

by Anonymousreply 7May 14, 2025 2:14 AM

OP can’t go five minutes without another screed about how the Palestinians had it coming and if you disagree you’re an antisemite.

But he’s beat that horse to death and now it’s “why are you so obsessed with something that’s none of your business!”

Why don’t you creatures just shut the fuck up? You won. The Palestinians are almost entirely massacred and now you’ll steal their bloodstained land. And you made us pay for it, even better.

by Anonymousreply 8May 14, 2025 2:19 AM

Why did northern liberals care about segregation in the south? Why did American and European liberals care about apartheid in South Africa? It's called caring about other people, OP.

Just admit you hate Palestinians and move on.

by Anonymousreply 9May 14, 2025 2:22 AM

Apart from the fact that cruelty and injustice is everyone’s problem, the Trump administration has done a dandy job of bringing the war to the U.S. It’s using protests against the war to attack academic freedom and free speech right here. Destroying Gaza, apparently, just isn’t enough. We have to go down the drain too.

[quote]About EVERYTHING! Especially about what words other people must or must not use!

On the plus side, R1, the use of the word "cunt" is becoming more frequent in the US.

Personally, I now use it a lot.

by Anonymousreply 11May 14, 2025 2:24 AM

OP because there's a feeling that we are living in cursed times.

Two quotes explain a time like this --

“The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters."

"Any man`s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

by Anonymousreply 12May 14, 2025 2:32 AM

OP: “ Why do people today feel the need to have strong opinions on things that don’t affect them?”

Also OP: In my opinion people who protest what is happening to the Palestinians are “wokies” and also in my opinion what happened to Gaza is the Palestine inhabitants’ fault and this is a thing that doesn’t affect me!

by Anonymousreply 13May 14, 2025 2:52 AM

OP going on about "wokies" but not the conservatives who "support Israel" but couldn't find Israel on a map if their life depended on it

by Anonymousreply 14May 14, 2025 2:54 AM

Social media gives everyone a opinion. People want things their way and Gen Zed and younger don't know better because they emerge from the womb smartphone in hand.

by Anonymousreply 15May 14, 2025 3:54 AM

Because we're not supposed to have wars or famine. We are educated and rich enough to be able to communicate and care for the world but all these dumb ass father fuckers are out here killing everyone and destroying our beautiful planet.

by Anonymousreply 16May 14, 2025 4:33 AM

I’M LITERALLY SHAKING!!!

by Anonymousreply 17May 14, 2025 4:38 AM

You all missed the point of my post. The Gaza situation was just an example used to illustrate my point. But it could also be white people obsessing over the “correct“ attitude to have towards black hairstyles, it could be people arguing over which side is in the right and which side is in the wrong in some conflict on the other side of the world they know nothing about. It could be straight people deciding that gay men should love the word “queer.” It could be anything.

by Anonymousreply 18May 14, 2025 6:38 AM

I kind of agree with OP. If anyone bring up controversial current events in conversation, I usually just say "I dont give a shit." I will defend gay rights and constitutional rights, like free speech and keeping the religious right from taking away our choices, but the Middle East? I don't give a shit.

by Anonymousreply 19May 14, 2025 7:04 AM

I like my Gaza like my grandmother liked her steaks. Burnt to a crisp with all the parasites dead.

by Anonymousreply 20May 14, 2025 7:48 AM

R18, human beings are interested in other human beings. And who is to say what affects us? Being numb and indifferent to other people is only a goal for bargain-basement conservatives, people who say that they only care about their bank account.
