American parents and their piss-elegance.
One of the worst celebrity kids' names is "Seraphina Affleck." You just know that momma Jennifer Garner thought that was the most sophisticated name ever.

The masculine-sounding girl names that became such a millennial cliché (Taylor, Hunter, Madison, Carson, Sawyer, Peyton) seem to have disappeared with the last generation.

Out of those 30 names, only James would have made the list in my day…
Jameses were usually very annoying

R9 Those weren't millenial names, those were first-gen zoomers. Millenials were Kaitlyn, Meghan, Jenna, Brittney, etc.

Elder millennial here.
In my Catholic there were multiples in my grade of Josh, Chris, Michael, Bradley and Nathan, and Elizabeth, Jennifer, Amy, Melissa and Krystal.
Names like Brandon, Kyle, Zach, Cody, Krystal, Taylor, Madison and Ashley more late 80s kids.

I'm just glad the 80s are over, when every little girl born was named Alexis, Krystle, Amanda and Diana.

Not to mention all those old-testament names for boys, R17. Obediah, Zacharia, Jedediah, Noah, etc.

R18 Oh yes, trying to forget those. And once 'William' and 'Harry' were born to Diana, a lot of newborn boys were named 'William' and 'Harry' back then. Ugghhh.

R15: I was thinking of Taylor Swift (b. 1989), Taylor Schilling (b. 1984), Taylor Momsen (b. 1993), and Peyton List from As the World Turns (b. 1986), among others, but maybe they were early exceptions

It's a well-known phenomenon: babies named for popular characters on TV and in movies. After Titanic was released schools were bombarded with Jacks and Roses. After Twilight invaded we got a ton of Edwards, Bellas, and Jacobs...

R16, were we the last batch with incredibly boring, mundane names?
After us, names and spellings started getting experimental.

I know a young Millennial couple who named their child “Axel.”
Evidently this name is popular in Europe.
I picture a trailer park when I hear the name.

R6 Off topic, but SVU brought that girl (Maria) back to the show as an adult. She became a cop and Oleebia went to her NYPD graduation.
But earlier this year they killed her off! Oleebia is distraught!

"Axel" is veddy veddy German indeed. Pairs well with the surnames "Messerschmidt" and "Ottovordemgentschenfelde"

"Milo," "Milan," and "Mika" seem to be popular in my area. I used to like the name Milo, before I learned of Mr. Yiannopoulos

Most of those names are just fine. Not that most of you bitches will or could procreate, but what exactly would you name your children. You do like Elijah? Eli is a cool name. I'm not a Noah fan, but what's the problem. There are lots of bad names in the Old Testament; these are fine. My neighbor is a Liam, who is actually a William. But he's a hot 30 yo, so he gets a pass. The rest are saints' names, or traditional at least. They are much better than Brandon, Kyle, Zach, Cody, Krystal, Taylor, Madison and Ashley.
Seriously, what would you name your children?

My brother and his wife are planning to name their baby Alice. I think it's a sweet name but DLers will associate it with Linda Lavin.

Is "Alyn" a good non-binary name?
R29: I think it's the conformity, aspirationalism, and the usual whiff of frau-ism that makes people scoff at some of these names more than the names themselves. "Ava" reeks of Witherspoon-ism, while "Olivia," a fine classical name otherwise, has become a little-white-girl cliché. Remember how "Lily" used to be ridiculed here as the go-to name for adopted Asian girls?
