Cannes bans nudity on Red Carpet.

[quote] Over the last few years, one styling trend has dominated the red carpet circuit more plainly than any other in recent memory. The ‘naked’ dress — a gown built on the suggestion of exposing its wearer’s nudity — quickly revealed itself as a surefire way for celebrities to grab headlines and has therefore enjoyed full-frontal support from a number of those in show business.

[quote]But any celebrity stylist bound for the South of France hoping to enlist the powerful tools of chiffon or sheer lace will need to think again after an amendment was spotted in the Cannes Film Festival dress code just 24-hours ahead of the event’s grand opening this Tuesday. According to the organizer’s website, “nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as any other area of the festival.” The decision, which will have a direct impact on the ever-growing ‘naked’ dress trend, has been taken “for decency reasons,” it added.

Good - now also ban any celebrity that isn't in one of the films being screened.

Why are models and people trying to push their acting careers highlighted at this event anyway? Everyone knows it's only for self-promotion - they don't give a fuck about the film festival.

Good! I'm no prude, but those dresses were vulgar. And it was never the big stars who wore them either, always some influencer skank thirsty for headlines. Can't fault Cannes for wanting to classy up their joint a bit.

It’s kind of crazy to think about how many women this will effect.

by Anonymousreply 3May 12, 2025 6:05 PM

r1 I remember reading somewhere that Cannes film festival is one of the busiest events for prostitutes and escorts or something to that effect. Yacht parties and drugs with rich and famous people.

by Anonymousreply 4May 12, 2025 6:09 PM

Does this mean men will have to stop wearing see-through shirts as well. Or is the rentboy look as popularised by Chalamet still OK?

by Anonymousreply 5May 12, 2025 6:13 PM

Halle Berry must be livid.

by Anonymousreply 6May 12, 2025 6:15 PM

Women don’t know how to dress. They all want to dress like hookers and be taken seriously.

by Anonymousreply 7May 12, 2025 6:21 PM

r1 People forget the business side of Cannes, with an actual film market going on during the festival. So they let the models show up to get the rich old men to show up and hope some of them agree to buy a film to impress said models.

Voluminous banned, too?

by Anonymousreply 9May 12, 2025 11:03 PM

They waited until the day before to announce this?

by Anonymousreply 10May 12, 2025 11:30 PM

What a bummer!

by Anonymousreply 11May 12, 2025 11:41 PM

Cannes is a hell of a lot of fun that time of year.

by Anonymousreply 12May 12, 2025 11:52 PM

Good. They'll look slightly less like whores, and maybe better design will be the thing people talk about instead of nipples, pubes and ass cracks.

The new dress code also bans political statements or protests on the red carpet. Guess Cate Blanchett's Palestine dress last year really pissed them off. Her new movie with Jim Jarmusch (and Adam Driver) was excluded from competition and completely shut out at the festival.

by Anonymousreply 14May 13, 2025 12:48 AM

How are they defining nudity? A dress that makes you LOOK nude is still a dress.

by Anonymousreply 15May 13, 2025 1:34 AM

If I were an unknown starlet I’d hire security guards to drag me and my naked dress kicking and screaming from the red carpet. Then I’d give interviews sobbing, holding the shreds of my rhinestones about me.

They do suck though. Our advice is that you should not click on the link and whatever you do, don't read their truly terrible articles.]

They also asked to waive "voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests". (Probably because of the jesus chick from last year and the disrespecting of Kelly Rowland). Too bad- i hoped for the butch blonde security blockwart from last year to make a comeback.

Any way here are the frocks.
