Favorite MALE musical artist?? And why??

Favorite male musical artist?? And why??

by Anonymousreply 42May 13, 2025 2:33 AM

Paul MCartney because he's a musical genius.

by Anonymousreply 1May 12, 2025 3:01 AM

Prince or David Bowie. Listen to their music and watch their videos for why

by Anonymousreply 2May 12, 2025 3:02 AM

Too many to mention but if I have to pick just one I'll say Roger Whittaker. Glorious resonant baritone in his prime.

Bowie for sure.

by Anonymousreply 4May 12, 2025 3:21 AM

I'd like to mention Mick Jagger as well.

by Anonymousreply 5May 12, 2025 3:25 AM

Sting

by Anonymousreply 6May 12, 2025 3:26 AM

Sinatra, Tony Bennett and all the rest of them that did justice to The Great American Songbook. Right now I'm listening to Bobby Short.

by Anonymousreply 7May 12, 2025 3:29 AM

Elvis Costello.

by Anonymousreply 8May 12, 2025 3:32 AM

Louis Armstrong

George Michael

Stevie Wonder

Bill Evans

Django Reinhardt

Prince, Bowie, Jackson,

by Anonymousreply 9May 12, 2025 3:46 AM

Robert Smith

It's funny you ask, OP, because I heard an English Beat song on Sirius today and thought, "Damn, Dave Wakeling is the most underrated singer/songwriter ever, and my absolute favorite male vocalist of all time."

And why did I only learn today that he came out as bi in 1985??? Have we ever talked about that here?

Freddie Mercury had a damn fine voice.

by Anonymousreply 12May 12, 2025 4:13 AM

Bryan Ferry, not the Roxy Music era but his solo performing years. He's a slinky lounge lizard. Joe Cocker, loved his gravelly voice. Finally the late Lou Reed, wrote great lyrics.

by Anonymousreply 13May 12, 2025 4:17 AM

My mother was a huge fan of Johnny Cash and I never minded when she played his records. There's something comforting about his voice. The only country singer I could abide. With one exception, Tammy Wynette singing Stand By Your Man but I think it's because her band played it to perfection.

by Anonymousreply 14May 12, 2025 4:27 AM

Teddy Pendergrass. This is a great clip of him live getting the audience worked up. Watch to the end to see his full effect. He also has a gravelly, passionate voice that I like.

Dave Gahan, Marvin Gaye, Layne Staley, George Michael, Billy Mackenzie

by Anonymousreply 16May 12, 2025 4:52 AM

Dave Gahan, Steve Perry for the pure thrill of hearing their voices. And Dave was a looker in the '80s and '90s.

Prince for his genius and creativity.

George Michael for his voice, looks, and overall musical brilliance. Same with Sting.

I wish I could still admire Michael Jackson, but I believe that documentary (and all the other stuff). Sometimes, I will go back and listen to one of his '80s songs, however, because his voice is incredible and he too was a genius.

by Anonymousreply 17May 12, 2025 7:13 AM

McCartney. He never stops creating, even though he could just sit on his piles of money for the rest of his life. I’ve seen him live five times and he stays onstage for the entire three hours. And every song is iconic.

Brilliant, legendary musician.

by Anonymousreply 18May 12, 2025 9:21 AM

The magnificent Johnny Mathis

by Anonymousreply 19May 12, 2025 9:35 AM

Peter Gabriel. His off the charts creativity and musical genius in searching for sound and his incredible voice which is able to sing two notes at once.

He's an incredibly boring and dull man in real life but put him in front of a camera and music and BOOM!

by Anonymousreply 20May 12, 2025 9:42 AM

Zamfir, Master of the Pan Flute!

Bruce.

by Anonymousreply 22May 12, 2025 1:36 PM

Lou Rawls. God, what a voice.

by Anonymousreply 23May 12, 2025 1:38 PM

He's all but forgotten now and he was a blip on the '70s music scene, but Gino Vannelli doesn't get the respect he deserves. Such a beautiful, smooth, controlled voice.

He managed to make the schmaltzy pop song "I Just Wanna Stop" sound so lovely.

Vince Gill

by Anonymousreply 25May 12, 2025 1:53 PM

Dean Martin. He really didn’t give a shit and went a long way. That’s talent.

by Anonymousreply 26May 12, 2025 7:26 PM

Bob Seger and John Denver.

by Anonymousreply 27May 12, 2025 8:21 PM

Marvin Gaye

by Anonymousreply 28May 12, 2025 8:33 PM

Oh I forgot the why. Bob is a great songwriter and can sing the shit out of anything. John was my dad's favorite. I love his gentle voice and gentle lyrics. And of course he did Fly Away with Olivia.

by Anonymousreply 29May 12, 2025 8:37 PM

r24 Gino Vannelli deserved far more recognition than he got. He was another '80s AM soft rock staple. Canadian too!

The lack of Art Garfunkel appreciation in this thread is sad. A grown man with a choir boy's falsetto--he sang for hours at his own bar mitzvah.

by Anonymousreply 30May 12, 2025 11:23 PM

Paul McCartney: pretty much what everybody else has already said. I saw him in concert during the Wings years.

Roger Daltrey: raw rock. Sex on a stick in his Tommy years.

Bob Seger: hometown guy. Rock and Blues. Love this man.

Paul Simon: IMO, should have won a Nobel before Dylan. Incredible songwriter.

Jimmy Buffet and Jack Johnson: I've been in the island-vibe the past few years. I find myself listening to them when I need to escape.

Warren Zevon: totally underrated songwriter.

by Anonymousreply 31May 12, 2025 11:35 PM

Anne Murray.

by Anonymousreply 32May 13, 2025 12:01 AM

Prince, Bowie & McCartney.

There are way too many FANTASTIC, male, old school R & B artists to name, who are just as good and even better than my first 3 artists.

by Anonymousreply 33May 13, 2025 12:09 AM

Ooops!

Forgot Elton, the bitchy yet highly talented queen that he is.

by Anonymousreply 34May 13, 2025 12:11 AM

r34 was.

by Anonymousreply 35May 13, 2025 12:26 AM

McCartney

by Anonymousreply 36May 13, 2025 12:36 AM

Sam Cooke

by Anonymousreply 37May 13, 2025 12:49 AM

OP do you just mean males? Or male and female?

I think Linda Lavin.

by Anonymousreply 38May 13, 2025 12:51 AM

Were all these McCartney fans born AFTER silly love songs?

by Anonymousreply 39May 13, 2025 1:03 AM

Don't get the appeal of the Beatles as a group of the solo members. Surprised to see so many McCartney fans.

by Anonymousreply 40May 13, 2025 2:25 AM

Tony Bennett. His song styling and interpretation were and remain breathtaking. A genuine artist.

by Anonymousreply 41May 13, 2025 2:27 AM

Richie Havens

Billy McKenzie

George Michael

Nick Drake
