WHET Judith Martin?

The old gal hasn't been heard from in years. I assume she's in a memory care unit or something; her Wikipedia page says she's almost 90.

I really miss her wit and her declamations about etiquette (usually backed up by historical knowledge). Her kids have the Miss Manners column going without her, but it's sort of a zombie version that offers general advice just as much as etiquette. Plus it's not witty and doesn't have the historical depth the OG Miss Manners had.

Odd fact: her son Nick Martin who co-writes the current column with his sister, was a college classmate of the Washington Post's premier advice columnist, Carolyn Hax--they are both Harvard '88.

I used to live across the street from her in the Adams Morgan section of DC. Never saw her though.

Don’t mind me… I’m just shifting perceptions on proper dining etiquette!

Her daughter Bina did improv in the 1990s in Chicago

Her kids could never write this tartly or this well:

[quote]"The wide-tined fork is considered a more correct implement for eating ice cream than is the spoon, although the spoon is not actually incorrect. This leeway is permitted because any fool can see that ice cream will drip through the fork tines, however wide."

I was molested after someone roofied my martini.

R3 What a relief. I am one of those people that eats one thing at a time. I didn't notice it myself until someone pointed it out, but it is true. I'm glad it doesn't violate some etiquette.

[quote]Is it rude to eat one item on your plate at a time?

Not that anyone asked, but this is the only way I eat. Sides first, then rolls, then the main course.

Her classic:

[quote]DEAR MISS MANNERS: What do I say when I am introduced to a homosexual "couple"?

[quote]GENTLE READER: "How do you do?"

Next question!
