Bar specifically for "Q+" and nonbinaries closes its doors
“The sad thing for me, especially in this political climate, is that Misfits was the place for ‘queer’ ‘trans’ and ‘nonbinary’ folks,” read Thursday night’s post, seemingly written by Misfits co-owner David Elderton.
“I realized I accomplished what I set out to do—to elevate the talents and voices of Q+ women, various communities of color [and] our staunch allies,” Misfits’ post reads. “People entrusted us with taking them away from their lives + their very true realities for even a few hours…In order to leave them amused, entertained, entranced or even educated a bit more than when they entered.”
How could such a thing fail?
And how did you already know it was in Portland?

Can’t they just go to the Renaissance Fair?

Not surprised, that sub demographic is typically jobless or unemployed. No disposable income for beer etc.

It was a terrible decision to set up a bar for them in the first place. A board game café or something else equally tragic would probably have been more successful.

One of zir events was billed as "an educational cabaret, where the performers are your teachers."
How could a bar with such a surefire business plan fail?

Imagine all those mentally ill people just standing there, drinking Diet Coke and completely unable to make eye contact with anyone else. Then someone accidentally fails to use someone's made-up pronouns and the entire place erupts in a volcanic autistic meltdown. It really surprises me it failed.

Here's a shocker:
... Misfits co-owner David Elderton added in the closure announcement. “Love or hate the name, they resonated with it (as many of us do — such as [bold]a gay man on the neurodiverse spectrum like myself[/bold] or those from other communities and backgrounds).

Someone should buy it, keep the name and turn it into a Misfits/Jem and the Holograms '80s tribute fully licensed restaurant. That would make some scratch.

Imagine an asexual bar called Aces, and they have card nights.

R 5 is correct, these people don’t go to bars.
A cat café probably would have worked.

He opened a bar for '"Q+" and nonbinaries' at a time when gay bars are closing and lesbian bars are nearly non-existent I guess he did his own research.

It will be bought and renamed Pink Pony Club, an accepting place for straight 'queer' women to hang out and bemoan their newfound minority underdog status.

Such a shock that a queer bar in the far reaches of bumfuck Portland was a flop. I mean, it's practically the burbs.

It must have been a nightmare trying to figure out which of the 17 bathrooms you could safely use without upsetting any of the myriad sub-demographics onsite at any one time.

At least until someone with allergies filed a lawsuit for being excluded and got the place shut down.
