Is anyone watching this season ? I didn't watch this week's, but am all caught up with the previous six episodes. It's just as good - if not better - than last season. The only ep I didn't like was the 'alligator' show. It felt like a 'filler' episode. The best one was the baseball episode - hot fuck! I didn't know that was Simon Rex in the lead until I saw the credits. He is beautiful at age 52. (I like the remark they made about him waxing his chest, which he teased us with in his open uniform).
This is one of the better comedies on TV right now.

We discussed it only a bit here, but the name of the show in that thread is wrongly just one word, which is why you didn't find it.

Really? The sentiment seems to be that it's a moderate to severe downgrade, and I agree with that. It's suddenly such a chore to watch, takes me a couple of days to even motivate myself to watch a new episode. The setups are goofy and take way too long, although once Charlie enters stage I'm suddenly reminded of why I'm still watching.
Also, is it just me or was this show way more cinematic in the first season? Now it just looks like a regular procedural most of the time.

This seems to be the most un-even season for a TV series. One week it's great, the next week - not so much.

I’m disappointed in the new season. It’s taken the wry humor from the first season and launched into an ill-fitting zaniness that leeches any tension from the stories and leaves the show without any consistent tone.
All the wacky, failed hit jobs on Charlie in the first few episodes set us up for the new feel: slapstick! And Rhea Perlman was neither funny nor menacing, a deflated, tiresome antagonist compared to the menacing Ron Perlman and Benjamin Bratt.
Five Cynthia Erivos!!! Why not make it ten? No, three would’ve sufficed, but they wanted to give their lead guest a chance to show off - at the expense of any thread of logic, which should be crucial for a murder mystery. Charlie was a fan of the kid detective show but was unaware the main character was played by four sisters? And one of them has adopted a nonsensical French accent? It’s like their target audience is children.
Arguably worse was the alligator episode, with Kumail Nanjiani playing a Tiger Joe knockoff like he’s in a third-rate SNL skit.
The only episode I’ve liked so far (about midway through the season) was the one with Giancarlo Esposito as the funeral parlor director. He played the role like the villain in a 1940s women’s picture and was terrific.
Otherwise, I’m with r3. Getting through an episode feels like dutifully completing a boring homework assignment.

R5 I agree with all you wrote, except my favorite episode so far was the baseball episode with Simon Rex. I find he's really come a long way as an actor (starting a few years ago in the movie he did). Too bad they can't find a way to somehow cast him as a semi-regular in this series.
The 'Tiger Joe' episode was the worst.

The season ends on a two-parter. Part one was OK, but it's been a disappointing season (mostly the last few episodes).

Yeah, I'm officially struggling with it. I've enjoyed the last three episodes the most, but it still feels like the whole concept has run its course.
Haley Joel Osment is such a train wreck.

I didn't realize that was Hayle Joel Osment until I looked up the credits on IMDB. I thought that was Chaz Bono. My God, they could pass as twins !
