Any DLers travel through the air traffic control mess at Newark this last week? What's going on?
On April 28 in Philadelphia, an air traffic controller began shouting that he had lost his radar feed for planes flying in and out of Newark Liberty International Airport.
Some of his colleagues still had radar but their radios went dead, prompting frantic calls to their counterparts in New York urging them to keep their planes away from Newark’s airspace.
Then, for 30 harrowing seconds until the radios came back, there was nothing more to do but hope — as they had no means of telling pilots how to avoid crashing their planes into one another.

Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.

Three of the busiest airports in the world all located within a short distance, who knew?

I have a trip to Iceland planned later in the year, and after these reports I'm going through Chicago.

Trump of course blames Biden and Buttigieg.
But this never happened under Biden

Yesterday I flew international. I usually do about a 3 hour layover in Newark, but thankfully was able to rebook a layover through Chicago, since it was less than 24 hours since I had booked my flights. I was flying from Canada to Floriduh.

Isn't Newark the most dangerous place to board a plane right now?

Colbert had Buttigieg on a few weeks ago. He showed him a picture of the Delta plane that flipped upside down landing in Toronto and asked, "Tell me, how many times did this happen when you were Secretary?"

There were 3 air traffic controllers instead of 14, that is insane.

People are re-thinking their travel plans over this. But also saying, if Newark is that bad, isn’t it likely that JFK and LaGuardia are only incrementally better?

Always avoid NY, if you can.

The problem with Newark is that they moved ATC off site to PA and the data linkage is dropping radar and frequencies for 90 second periods. This leaves controllers in the dark for those 90 seconds or so and a lot of bad stuff can happen. This is not happening nationwide, although I expect ATC shortages to get exponentially worse in the next few months. This is not happening at JFK or LGA because they are not subject to the data transfer that EWR is. For now, it is not safe to fly into EWR. Avoid.

R20 is right, the outage last week was due to a frayed wire connection.

I liked going through Newark to Europe. Better than hateful JFk, the lines are shorter. But i’m taking a break now until they sort it out.

Friends flying back from their place in France on United next week were rerouted by the airline through Dulles and then on to their final destination in FL.

Joe Scarborough fire back through Newark and said the only noticable thing was the airport was empty..
It appears if you cut down on 80% of the flights, then there are enough controllers to make sure the planes don't collide.
