I agree.
It's not that I feel unsafe, but I'm boycotting for other reasons including Trump's threats to Canadian sovereignty and the tariffs.
Besides, getting a burner phone isn't worth the hassle to me.

Who?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 7, 2025 2:40 PM |
OP, I can't blame you, the US is now a shit-hole country & a banana republic.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 7, 2025 2:42 PM |
R2, I'd just rather spend my money elsewhere. I used to visit NYC regularly (once or twice a year), but this year, I'm taking my mom to Montreal instead. We'll keep our money in Canada and no potential for hassle at customs.

I also wonder about the reverse. How will Canadians react to American visitors? I don't expect them to be in any danger but there will be more rigorous inspections at customs, especially for firearms and fentanyl. Not to mention less than civil treatment by patriotic Canadians in daily interactions.
Then there are the problems encountered by convicted felons trying to enter Canada. There are ways around the restrictions but a flat out refusal for a certain someone attending the upcoming G7 summit would be delicious.

R7, I feel that the majority of Americans visiting Canada wouldn't be MAGA, so they'd be fine. Of course, there are some MAGA who visit to go hunting and fishing, but they're a minority.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 7, 2025 3:01 PM |
You're probably right r8. At the same time I expect we will hear more about the exceptions in the media.

I feel unsafe any time I see a Canadian license plate anywhere on a US Interstate.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 7, 2025 3:44 PM |
Fucking Deploristan, man. Just leave them alone as they engage in some much-needed soul searching.

Won’t set foot in the U.S. ever again. Not after 70 million of them endorsed a racist, misogynistic, hillbilly stupid would-be dictator. Spent four years living in Boston in the 90’s and met some of the kindest, smartest people ever. But America has turned a dark corner that will take generations to recover from. America’s true color has been exposed and it looks a lot like pure evil. Bye, Felicia.

Someone was telling me stories last night about a couple of her clients who were stopped at the border reentering the US. One was a white, native-born female professor who was pulled aside while the border patrol went through her phone. (They didlet her in, but FFS.) The other one was a Filipina legal US resident coming back from abroad who was denied entry. Apparently, she had some long-ago criminal record that had no current significance. They just wanted an excuse to keep out a brown person.

Back in March, my financial advisor here in Toronto told me about two of her elderly clients who were followed and shouted at "Go back to Canada", We Don't Want You Here" in a Publix supermarket. The two creeps-apparently strangers to each other-knew the elderly couple were Canadians as the man was wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. Granted, it was in Florida, but it's still disturbing. I won't even change planes in the States. And last month when I was touring New Zealand and Australia I always wore my little Canadian flag pin on my shirt pocket...not so much to brag about being Canadian as to make sure nobody thought I was an American. Sorry boys, but we're done.

R8, lots of pro-Trump Americans come to Canada for hunting, even including Donald Trump Jr. & Kristi Noem. They are so hypocritical.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 8, 2025 7:19 AM |
I don’t feel safe as an american
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 8, 2025 12:14 PM |
I hate that this is happening, and I don't blame Canadians one bit for their anger or their resolve to boycott us. I would too. I'm curtailing all international travel until Trump is gone. I don't blame the world for hating us right now. We *are* the baddies.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 8, 2025 12:18 PM |
My coworker just went to Savannah and had no problems. Said people there were very welcoming knowing she and her hubby were Canadians. No hassles through customs. But she did purge her phone of all social media apps just in case. I’m thinking Homeland Security has specific flags they watch for, and there are more of them now, but I can still see why people are leery. I myself won’t travel to the US under the current administration on principle. Fuck Dump and his tariffs and threats.

Canada is fast becoming an antisemitic cesspool, with multiple attacks on *one* Jewish school in the last year. The number of antisemitic incidents in the country reached a record high in 2023 and continues to rise.
Their healthcare system is completely overburdened and on the verge of collapse thanks to the flood of migrants they’ve invited into their country.
They now rank 22nd in the world in GDP per capita.
They have ZERO business looking down upon the US, which they rely on economically and for defense. There is plenty to criticize the US for, but I’m tired of the fucking hypocrisy.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 8, 2025 12:48 PM |
Fuck off troll at R20. You're so obvious,
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 8, 2025 12:54 PM |
R21, “antisemitism” has become the club used by ultra rightwingers to beat you if you aren’t a complete fascist.
Fun fact: ultra rightwingers perpetrated the Holocaust
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 8, 2025 1:03 PM |
Datalounge shitting on Canada. NID. You'd be surprised what the world thinks of the US right now. You are so utterly oblivious. Then again, it's typical American to be ignorant.

R20 is a bot. It's programmed to catch certain keywords (Canada, Trump, immigrants, tourism) and then spit out a response along certain hot-button topics ("anti-semitism," healthcare) that's meant to inflame folks and derail or redirect the conversation away from the undesirable topic (rising anti-american sentiment and criticism of Trump). The fact that we're talking about it but it's not responding is a tell, but AI is getting better and it'll get harder and harder to see these tells.
PAY ATTENTION!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 10, 2025 11:55 AM |
Yes, r20 is a bot. Because no actual human could make those comments. It has to be some kind of complicated attempt to infiltrate DL. It’s the new Boris.
I think it’s great Canadians are boycotting the US. But there is no anti Canada feeling here at all. It’s all just meaningless gibberish emanating from the orange buffoon,
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 10, 2025 12:12 PM |
You're a buffoon, R28.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 10, 2025 12:14 PM |
I was in Toronto a few months ago and was shocked by how far it’s declined. Dundas Square smells like piss and is filled with vagrants and junkies. I was also ripped off by a Pakistani cab driver who swapped my Amex card for someone else’s Amex (it belonged to a German man he had previously ripped off) and then went shopping with it the next morning. I live in NY and have never had that happen in a cab.
Oh and it appears that R21, R22, R23, R24, R27, etc. are all the same hysterical bitch. Hilarious that they’re accusing anyone else of being a bot.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 11, 2025 10:19 AM |
PS, after R27 is done replying to itself 5 or 6 more times, please let the dumb twat know that I wasn’t responding before because I have it blocked.
It’s actually fascinating to see certain people melt down because they can’t stand being told that the world is more complicated than their simplistic worldview and that they aren’t the beacons of virtue that they think they are.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 11, 2025 10:31 AM |
I hope that it’ll be fine in July going to Vancouver from Seattle with no hassles. The border patrol could get pissy with Americans and I wouldn't really blame them. I did not vote for The Orange Menace but that doesn’t matter to some.

I got screamed at for being an American whilst in Paris back in 2002, right after GWB took us to war following 9/11. After that I began telling everyone over there that I was from Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 13, 2025 12:41 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 13, 2025 1:45 PM |
Everyone in the US who isn't a Trumper feels the same way.
Keep that in mind when you read posts here downplaying it all and calling you hysterical for noticing.
