Hank's first wife (before Rita Wilson) had serious mental illness, and Hanks's daughter EA (Elizabeth Anne) has written a memoir about her harrowing experiences growing up with her as the custodial parent, having to have her mother host 12step meetings in the house, conversing at any time with god, and eventually abusing her physically. It sounds like a crazy childhood: her mother would only bring ehr and her brother Colin fast food to eat, but then they'd go to their father's house and Rita Wilson would cook them elaborate multi-course meals. But as much as she loves her father, it sounds like she rarely got to spend much time alone with him because there were always PAs hanging around the house and the phone was always ringing.

I didn't know Tom Hanks had a daughter.

Sorry Rita but you’re still responsible for Chet.

Hosting 12 step meetings is abusive?

Mmm...seems she's taken some creative license with this. I believe her mom had issues, but some of the stuff she's talking about seems melodramatic. Her mom smoked in bed and read the Bible. HORRORS!
Seems bitter that she didn't live the child of a rich star Beverly Hills dream full-time like her half-siblings.

R4 - The 12 step meetings were at her house. AA and NA attract all sorts of people good and bad, including some very unsavory characters. Would you open your house this way with a teen girl in residence?

R6 - attract all sorts of people? They're all in recovery. The same "unsavory characters' could be found school, or adult parties at the house, even relatives.

If she wasn’t Tom Hanks’ daughter she wouldn’t have gotten a book deal. None of this is worthy of a book. She sounds like a whiner.

Because it's so important to monetize one's bad experiences in life.
Fuck her.

Now THIS is a NEPO baby. No talent and trying to make her name trashing her famous dads first wife in a trashy book. Go away. No one cares.

Must be nice to actually make money off having a crazy parent.

You clearly have never dealt with women seeking help at NA/AA meetings who have been victimized by the "13 Steppers" who like to take advantage of the vulnerable at their worst point. They congregate there, unlike the mundane settings you very weakly bring up as cover for your evasion.
Back in the late 80s, I used to work for a county mental health system that came to debate whether it was advisable to encourage women to attend AA/NA meetings because there had been such horrible outcomes for women who sought help, including sexual assaults. "Hey, baby, I got a place for you to stay..."
Remember, r7, that people aren't as nice or well-intentioned as you are. Or you think you are.

I will bet you anything that 99% of Dataloungers have more interesting more bizarre upbringing stories worthy of a book than this broad.

Sure, r13. 99% of DLers were brought up by neglectful schizophrenics and only got respite every other weekend while visiting their world famous father for a nutritious meal and some nice silence not pierced by mom's screaming.
Happens all the time!
