....On tombstone of Pope Francis causing the C hee se To E xit Cracker in the minds of typographers and kerning obsessives.
I like it.
Except for the weather on certain days, perfect doesn't exist.

That's terrible. Very unprofessional.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 5, 2025 12:27 PM |
I've got to admit too, that while I like it, I'm still surprised it happened.

Stonemason must be a TradCath.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 5, 2025 1:21 PM |
I went down such a rabbit hole thanks to this one damn inscription.

[quote]detail on the late Pontiff’s tomb that is causing much discussion in the world of graphic design
I suppose they have to discuss SOMETHING.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 5, 2025 1:29 PM |
I, for one, am glad to see some media coverage of this Pope’s death. A sadly neglected topic.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 5, 2025 1:44 PM |
Ratzinger supporters carved it.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 5, 2025 2:07 PM |
It's terrible.
People look to Italy for beautiful things and an extraordinary history of art.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 5, 2025 3:14 PM |
It will have to be redone.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 5, 2025 3:16 PM |
They couldn't have put a little more effort into it? He WAS the Pope.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 5, 2025 3:20 PM |
It's a slab of regular stone, I think they'll redo it. Use the old one for kerb blocks on a pavement somewhere.

[quote]People look to Italy for beautiful things and an extraordinary history of art.
Yes, I'm sure looking at this one inscription will just utterly ruin people's experiences of the beauty of Rome.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 5, 2025 3:24 PM |
Contrarian cunt, R13.
It takes nothing away from the beauty of Rome, it only makes one wonder: What the fuck happened, that in 121 acres containing an embarrassment of riches of human imagination and creation....some clown(s) in 2025 thought, 'Eh, good enough.'
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 5, 2025 4:16 PM |
I’m really surprised this passed inspection.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 5, 2025 4:44 PM |
Beanies will roll!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 5, 2025 5:03 PM |
It means something and someone will decipher it. We know that his favorite TV show was NCIS. He may have prophesied a new version set in C(hicago) U.S.

Poor workmanship
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 5, 2025 5:32 PM |
Should get a refund
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 5, 2025 5:32 PM |
Yes, all those with OCD and other mental illness are triggered lol
Francis is fucking with them from the great beyond
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 5, 2025 5:33 PM |
He is at God's throne for all eternity, what does he care about a misaligned inscription.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 5, 2025 5:36 PM |
Maybe they were in a hurry?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 5, 2025 5:41 PM |
He has siblings. I wonder what, if anything, they think of this.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 5, 2025 5:46 PM |
It looks really bad
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 5, 2025 6:12 PM |
It’s not Comic Sans bad, but it’s funny.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 5, 2025 6:37 PM |
Just goes to show, even the Vatican is not what it used to be.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 5, 2025 6:42 PM |
Kinda not surprised, CS was very popular at the time, I recall it being absolutely everywhere. It wasn't yet seen as inappropriate for certain documents and occasions as it is today.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 5, 2025 6:47 PM |
Oh, and that subreddit is fascinating, by the way. Could and will spend hours on it.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 5, 2025 6:51 PM |
That’s an amateur mistake.
Don’t they have anyone with eyeballs and a ruler on staff there?
Truly a sign of the End Times when not even The Vatican can see this is fucked up
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 5, 2025 6:53 PM |
Assuming it's not destroyed, if this original is replaced with one with consistent spacing, would the original retain value?
I'm thinking of how rare, old coins are valued because they're flawed.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 5, 2025 7:38 PM |
It's plain stone that was carved a week ago, it has no value. Not that the Vatican would ever let it fall into collectors' hands if they decided to replace it, which I doubt they will. People will forget all about this by next week when we have a new pope. Who even thinks about Benedict or his tomb anymore?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 5, 2025 7:49 PM |
We demand to speak with the Manager!
(err... on second thought, there's no hurry)

*I* do!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 5, 2025 7:57 PM |
It looks as though his name was "Fr (Father) A. Nciscvs"
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 5, 2025 8:04 PM |
It’s a major clue for my next Robert Langdon novel.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 5, 2025 8:14 PM |
Fran Ciscus was his drag name, no?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 5, 2025 8:15 PM |
Someone should authenticate that name, r36
