Did you rush squealing to the dance floor when the DJ put it on? Was it one of your make-out songs?
Eldergays tell us about 'Music box Dancer', the 1978 chart topper

You'd faint if you knew how many mainstream musical genres there were circa 1978.

^ But the “elevator music” genre kind of takes the cake.
The late seventies offered a wild mix, from this borderline Lawrence Welk fare to hardcore punk and everything in between, with glorious disco holding court over all of it.
I never knew Ray Conniff got a hold of the song and added lyrics to make it even more cloying.
My little music box dancer is something to see The way she twirls around is cute as can be
🤮
But it’s still catchy.

I still hear this song whenever an ice cream truck passes through my neighborhood in the summer.

No, dear OP, we're not all like you.

I'm sure it was used by many ice skating dancers.

I hated this tune even as a child.

and many auditioning ballerinas.

This song is a ‘dialing the phone with a pencil’ moment for me. I was a kid when it was popular and I absolutely loved it and would go nuts when it came on the radio. My dad, bless his heart, bought me the record for my birthday. The rest of the album is a snooze but I played the hell out of Music Box Dancer.
I also loved Nadia’s Theme. It was the emotional flip side to Music Box Dancer.

I loved it too, R8.

I was 2 years old when this song was a radio hit and it is definitely one of my earliest memories. It gives me a feeling in my belly. Love this song. Another song from the era that evokes a similar nostalgia is Lotta Love by Nicolette Larson.

I was in a small-town bar with my parents one night 1978 or 79 and a guy came up to me and told me to ask the piano player to play Music Box Dancer because he got extremely pissed when he got that request. So of course I asked him and he banged out the song., not happy.

I still require this to be played as I get anal...preferably reverse cowboy, arms flailing...

I loved Music Box Dancer. First heard of it on “Solid Gold 79.”

It was the year to get yourself some Ack - Shun!

Believe it or not OP, there was very little to no squealing in 1978.
People valued acting like adults as soon as they could pull it off.

he banged out the song
Hilarious.
