This thread reminded me of stories my Aunts would regale me with that were passed down to them. These were real stories from when my family were slaves in that area. Most recently they said that when they cooked for the family, they would grind glass really fine and mix it in with their food. It obviously wasn't instant death, but I can't imagine what years a eating finely ground glass would do to you.
