Would you say it is generally worth it to buy miles to get to however many points you need for a free trip? If so, how close would you need to be for it to be worth it?
I've got 13,000 United miles. There is a credit card offer for 30,000. Round trip to Europe is 60,000. Would it be worthwhile buying the 17,000 miles?

you have to price out the cost of the 17k miles and the price of a trip without it and see which costs less. then you have to make sure you can actually get a trip with miles. it's a pain in the ass normally, though europe-based travel is getting desperate right now. i'm flooded with ads from companies in europe in april and may - not something i've seen since 2021.
