Men's Suit Recommendations for Wedding #2
Okay, I was going to start a thread on this subject this weekend, and I saw someone created a thread. My situation is a bit different and I didn't want to hijack the other guy's thread.
I'm the father of the groom. I'm thinking of having a suit made. I'd like to keep the cost under $800. I also want to be somewhat stylish, but I don't want to be that 69 yo guy trying be 30 years old. Any recommendations on where to go and styling.
Help me Datalounge. You're my only hope!!

Depends how much time you have - Indochino does custom suits for well under that price, but they need 6-8 weeks lead time, I think. (cut and made in Asia)
Their luxury suit lines are still under $800.
Off-the-rack suits at higher end stores are going to be well over $1000 - and then you still need to get it altered.
I would go to the Indochino store to get measured though. Boss has a lot of sales - that would be my #2.
CONGRATULATIONS on the wedding! Both of my partner's sons got married back to back a couple of years ago. But this was around the pandemic, so it really made searches and buying more difficult.

R1 here - one warning - I don't think Indochino does 'large' suits. There was a thread here a few years back about a gay couple getting married and they drove to an Indochino store to get measured only to be told they don't make suits in his size. Tears and tissues followed.
So if you're relatively appropriately weight:height ratio, you should be fine. But if you're the standard man size in the Midwest or South, you may have problems.
I did a quick online check and they do suits up to a 72 (!!!) which is fucking enormous to me - but just saying that one gay couple had issues.
Indochino also has suits in stock - but I think up to 46 - for altering in the shop. Maybe that's what the couple had problems with. 46 is still pretty big - but anyway - just a note.

Hugo Boss - also within your price range.
It goes without saying - DO NOT GO TO MEN'S WEARHOUSE - ill-fitting, cheap, overpriced suits. The worst.

If you have a higher end department store in your area, look for a Hart Shaffner and Marx suit. Or a Nordstrom suit. You cannot have a quality suit made for $800.
And remember, no one is going to remember what you are wearing. The day is not about you. So look your best but do not buy anything other than a classically styled dress suit.

R3 good suggestion and they're often on sale at Bloomingdale's, Sak's, Nordstrom, etc.

R4 - Hart Shaffner does have great suits and clothes. They're not everywhere though.

Don’t wear a suit of a dull color like gray, unless it’s a smart-looking, silvery plaid. Deep blue or dark blue (not navy) would be ideal for Father of the Groom. Wear a blinding white shirt and splurge on a beautiful silk tie, perhaps a brocade.

R7 - I agree, no black or gray suits. But it depends on location and theme - bright blue or light blue could be really nice for a summer wedding with a pastel shirt and colorful tie.
He doesn't need to look like a standard GOP politician (blue suit, white shirt, red tie - red, white and blue, y'all!) - gross.

Thanks. I'll check out Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. I was a big fan of HSM suits 35 years ago when I worked for a company that required us to wear suits. I'd buy them at a local store and get it tailored by them. I knew the owner for years, and was sad when he closed his store. Any brand recommendations?
I should add that this is going to be outdoors. The property belongs to the family of the bride. Absolutely beautiful spot in the Mt. Hood Corridor. While not casual, it's not black tie either. There will be tents, tables, etc.
