NYC airports SUCK!
I find Newark easy to get to - much easier than the hellscape of driving it takes to get to JFK. And LaGuardia ..... look how sad it made Eleanor Roosevelt to fly out of LGA. But fuck, what a disaster these airports are.
I know, I know. Some of the facilities have been upgraded. But that's a tiny part of a much larger pile of transportation shittiness. They're tacky, dirty, gross and unbecoming. And unbecumming (Sniffies is better in Chicago or LA airports).
Also, the staff there - what the everloving fuck. Everyone would be better served if these people just stayed home - which would clarify to passengers that they would get no help - instead of showing up and fucking off until they get their 8 hours.

Is EWR having a third straight day of melt downs?
That's what happens when airlines put all of their eggs in only a few baskets.

The New York Port Authority is to blame. It's as simple as that.

Didn’t LaGuardia just get completely rebuilt and is now delightful?
I haven’t been, but that’s what I heard.

Why is Eleanor Roosevelt walking alone with her baggage in LaGuardia? Wasn't there anyone around to help that poor old President's wife??

She wouldn't let anyone else carry her collection of dildoes and FDR's balls.

I avoid LGA and EWR at all cost if taking public transportation, which I usually am. The transit options from LGA are on a 3rd world level of crowds and chaos. I usually take the LIRR to Jamaica for the Airtrain to JFK, it can be crowded but the Airtrain service is frequent.
This is the greatness of NYS. We are one of the highest taxed states in the country and our GDP is about equal to Canada but the infrastructure is poorly maintained and stupidity reigns.

I don’t mind JFK. Take the E train from Manhattan and then get off at Jamaica. Then airtrain to your terminal. $12 between subway ride and airtrain and usually takes 40 minutes from Times Square

Why they couldn't make the Airtrain go to Penn Station is beyond me. I think that was the original plan but people who live along the Van Wyck fought it and won. You would think they're want fewer cars on the streets and highway. Still, the LIRR tracks to Manhattan are within a stone's throw from the Airtrain station.

NYC air traffic controllers are universally known to be the biggest assholes in the industry.

R5: past security in the terminal LGA is nice.

Ouch:
"MSNBC's Tom Costello claimed Friday that an air traffic controller who works at Newark airport said, ‘It is not safe. It is not a safe situation right now for the flying public. Don't fly into Newark. Avoid Newark at all costs.’”

You have to take a taxi to LGA. Sure there’s a bus line but that’s ridiculous.
It’s amazing that America’s biggest city doesn’t have a direct way to get from downtown to the airports

R16 I wonder if there is an agreement with the taxi unions to that LGA has to not have subway access. I always wonder when things don’t make sense what other powers are at play

Despite the various "upgrades", what's fascinating is that you still definitely know you're in Queens. As someone born & raised in Queens, it's a feeling I've been actively avoiding for most of my life.

Yep, Newark is much better.
[quote]Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey has been experiencing more than a week of significant flight delays and cancellations because of air traffic control staffing shortages, outdated technology and equipment that is causing communication issues. Newark’s situation has reportedly been so bad over the last few days that one air traffic controller told MSNBC on Monday that travelers should “avoid Newark at all costs” because “it is not a safe situation right now for the flying public.”

I just take the bus from Port Authority. The drivers know how to avoid traffic and find alternative routes.
