Do you grocery shop with a list?

I sure do because if I don't I will forget something.

by Anonymousreply 41May 5, 2025 4:36 AM

I was molested in aisle 7.

by Anonymousreply 1May 3, 2025 4:50 AM

Doesn’t this post belong in one of the “I Want to be Underwhelmed” threads?

by Anonymousreply 2May 3, 2025 4:58 AM

I always use a list, I print it out on paper too. Yeah, I know it's old school but flipping my phone back on every 2 minutes is actually a pain to me. Pulse when I am done, there is the satisfaction of tossing the list, job done.

by Anonymousreply 3May 3, 2025 5:01 AM

"Alexei, add milk to Grocery List."

by Anonymousreply 4May 3, 2025 5:05 AM

“Grocery shop?”

by Anonymousreply 5May 3, 2025 5:21 AM

R4 If the power were to go down for a prolonged period of time, I fear a lot of people would turn into screaming banshees.

by Anonymousreply 6May 3, 2025 5:21 AM

I keep three and I am boring enough to re-use.

I am working to create a real pantry, cheese supply, and spice box. When I was richer this was easy. Now I’m grateful when what I have works.

Greek yogurt can substitute for many things, but I like having the original when possible.

Kroger’s is exploiting the egg bullshit

by Anonymousreply 7May 3, 2025 5:24 AM

Yes but I usually buy some spontaneous stuff

by Anonymousreply 8May 3, 2025 5:25 AM

I also cook off recipe cards.

by Anonymousreply 9May 3, 2025 5:28 AM

I found real cheese curd!!!!!

9$ for five ounces.

Will the experience match the dream? No, bit I love poutine!

by Anonymousreply 10May 3, 2025 5:33 AM

Yes, I keep a running list in my phone.

by Anonymousreply 11May 3, 2025 10:40 AM

Always

by Anonymousreply 12May 3, 2025 10:50 AM

Yes, I use my phone as a grocery list and to tally the items.

I didn't realize how it looked until someone teasingly said, "Don't text and drive!" as he passed.

Made me self-conscious for a moment, but it is what it is.

by Anonymousreply 13May 3, 2025 11:05 AM

Yes and to elaborate I have four ongoing grocery lists saved to the Keep application on my phone. These are for Aldi, Lidil, Amazon Fresh and Costco . All of these are within a 3-mile radius of my house. I have the list organized by the floor plan of the store so I can go in grab items quickly and be gone before having the deal with the riff Raff. It saves a lot of time.

by Anonymousreply 14May 3, 2025 11:16 AM

I write it down on an index card.

by Anonymousreply 15May 3, 2025 11:17 AM

Stop 🛑 you’re annoying.

by Anonymousreply 16May 3, 2025 11:27 AM

R1. That is.

by Anonymousreply 17May 3, 2025 11:27 AM

R4, Alexa keeps my shopping list too. Don't have to worry about forgetting it unless I forget my phone.

by Anonymousreply 18May 3, 2025 9:20 PM

And, you can put different items on different lists. I have a list for Whole Foods, Central Market, the Middle Eastern market, the Asian Market, Kroger, etc.

No, because I still have the ability to write. In cursive, too. But, being a busy old man, and not a Luddite, I choose to use the technology readily available to me.

No one asked, but I use the British man's Alexa voice. I call him Alexei, and it works. Sorry girls, but I lived with women for the 47 years of my life, with the exception of one year. I prefer men's voices.

by Anonymousreply 19May 3, 2025 11:21 PM

A list!

by Anonymousreply 20May 3, 2025 11:55 PM

I never used to but in the past year, I’ve been using the Notes feature on my phone to make a list and it’s helped a lot. I was forgetting too much in my head when I went to the store.

by Anonymousreply 21May 3, 2025 11:56 PM

I grocery shop almost every day; its next to my building. Just buy what I feel like eating for dinner each night and restock a few items once in a while too.

by Anonymousreply 22May 4, 2025 12:47 AM

I just kind of go in and shop, which sometimes causes problems. If I'm making something specific, I will Instacart so that I can enter the ingredients online at home, and have everything delivered.

by Anonymousreply 23May 4, 2025 12:50 AM

I used to, but I don't really anymore.

by Anonymousreply 24May 4, 2025 12:54 AM

Like r22, i shop for groceries almost every day.

I don't use a list - i have a rough idea of what i want to make when i walk into the store, but make up my mind once i get there.

by Anonymousreply 25May 4, 2025 12:54 AM

I typically buy my regular weekly groceries, but I also need to buy extra ingredients each week for whatever I plan to cook each weekend, so a list is a must.

by Anonymousreply 26May 4, 2025 2:05 AM

Yes. It’s a must. I fear I’m becoming just a tad senile. I write out the list in sequence based on my footpath thru the store.

by Anonymousreply 27May 4, 2025 2:10 AM

I do a weekly grocery store pickup with a digital list on the store's website. Then fill in the odd item as needed.

by Anonymousreply 28May 4, 2025 2:17 AM

My mother used to write down her list. A few years ago, she lost her Thanksgiving shopping list in the produce section when we were just getting started. It was lost forever. She was frazzled for the remainder of the shopping trip, and several things were forgotten. She switched to her phone after that experience. First World problems.

by Anonymousreply 29May 4, 2025 2:20 AM

And now I miss mothers who lost their lists.

R29, your mother loved you and I appreciate you.

by Anonymousreply 30May 4, 2025 6:52 PM

I don't. I am pretty good at remembering, and if I do forget something, it's usually not important and can wait till the following trip to the grocery store. I must admit, I don't do a very big shopping since it's only me at home and don't really make meals (everything I get is pre-prepared and needs microwaving or air-frying).

by Anonymousreply 31May 4, 2025 6:58 PM

I try to rely on memory but that music shops play can drive out the thoughts.

by Anonymousreply 32May 4, 2025 7:01 PM

I mostly remember what I'm shopping for, but sometimes I create a digital list on the store's site and refer to it while shopping.

by Anonymousreply 33May 4, 2025 7:05 PM

I haven't been in a grocery market since March 16, 2020.

by Anonymousreply 34May 4, 2025 7:11 PM

No. I get generally the same things every week. Anything outside the staples, I usually remember.

by Anonymousreply 35May 4, 2025 10:23 PM

When buying the weekly regular routine items I don;t need a list. But when I'm making a new meal with a varied recipe, there is no way I'm going to remember everything without a list.

by Anonymousreply 36May 4, 2025 11:49 PM

I use a list, but I found squeaky cheese this week. $9 for a tin. Fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 37May 5, 2025 12:16 AM

No list needed. Buy what I like. Go 2-3 times a week, but buy in bulk when it makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 38May 5, 2025 12:54 AM

[quote]I grocery shop almost every day; its next to my building. Just buy what I feel like eating for dinner each night and restock a few items once in a while too.

I envy you! I loved it when I lived within blocks of markets and could shop once a day, everything fresh.

by Anonymousreply 39May 5, 2025 1:38 AM

If I don't shop with a list I come home with a shitload of 'sale' unneeded non-perishables. I purge the pantry twice a year for the local food pantry.

by Anonymousreply 40May 5, 2025 1:41 AM

Nope. Booze, drugs and t.v dinners are terrif!
