Ruth Buzzi is DEAD TO ME!

July 24, 1936 – May 1, 2025

Ruth Buzzi died peacefully in her sleep at home in Texas.

She was in hospice care for several years with Alzheimer’s disease. Memorial arrangements by Lacy Funeral Home, Stephenville, Texas to be announced.

Her family requests donating to Alzheimer’s research (www.alz.org) in lieu of flowers.

OMG. Yesterday evening Facebook gave me (through who knows what convoluted algorithms) a post from her account saying it was her husband writing, and that Ruth was withdrawing from posting because of health issues, and that we should all post photos of ourselves with her or happy memories we had of her. I wondered if she was long for this world. RIP Ruth!

by Anonymousreply 1May 2, 2025 10:48 AM

I had no idea she was still alive.

by Anonymousreply 2May 2, 2025 10:49 AM

Aww, she was a hoot and a holler! RIP

Same here, r1. After reading it, I showed my husband what she'd been posting lately and we talked fondly about her for a few minutes. How sad.

She was a woman of class and distinction.

She came from my homestate of Rhode Island. We were very proud of her when she hit it big.

by Anonymousreply 12May 2, 2025 12:04 PM

Oh, how sad. She was active and wonderful. RIP

by Anonymousreply 13May 2, 2025 12:28 PM

I used to watch her and Jim Nabors in "The Lost Saucer" on Saturday mornings. Even as a kid, I thought the show was incredibly stupid, but I'd still tune in every week.

Wasn’t there a thread about her just YESTERDAY?

by Anonymousreply 15May 2, 2025 12:30 PM

R15, Yes, but this is a different thread, where we acknowledge her death. RIP She was lovely.

by Anonymousreply 16May 2, 2025 12:36 PM

I remember there was a Saturday Morning cartoon based on the Gladys and Tyrone characters in the 70s.

But I also remember “The Lost Saucer” and her appearance in “The North Avenue Irregulars”.

RIP.

by Anonymousreply 17May 2, 2025 12:49 PM

R15 I was the one who found a thread from last year and bumped it, with what her husband posted yesterday......

....and then she DIED.

Just a few hours later.

You have to be of a certain age to realize how huge Laugh-In was in its heyday.

by Anonymousreply 19May 2, 2025 1:10 PM

was it try that she was blacklisted at one point?

by Anonymousreply 20May 2, 2025 1:11 PM

I recently posted about her and Joanne Wooley still being alive, and now she's gone. I'm worried for Joanne now.

It’s Jo Anne Worley, R21.

Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In is available on many free streaming services. If you have a chance, take a look. It looks dated -- it is. But for a time it was must-see TV and people talked about the next day in the workplace. It was...of its time.

r67 has stated her boundaries.

I shouldn't be surprised by this anymore, but I still can't believe how old some of you are.

by Anonymousreply 69May 2, 2025 9:55 PM

Well, R69, wait for the next forty years, what do you think the work will think of Britney Spears.

by Anonymousreply 70May 2, 2025 10:14 PM

R69 I still can't believe you'd be so fucking stupid as to post on a thread about a dead celebrity you've never heard of. Laugh-In was before my time but I used to watch it on Nick at Night. I also wasn't born in the 1300s but I've heard of Chaucer. What's that bitch up to?

by Anonymousreply 71May 2, 2025 10:16 PM

I hated Britney Spears 20 years ago r70.

It's just funny to me that an obscure actress from a forgotten show from 60 (!) years ago gets a big conversation here. It's wild.

by Anonymousreply 72May 2, 2025 10:16 PM

Ruth Buzzi was a Trump supporter.

by Anonymousreply 73May 2, 2025 10:42 PM

She was hilarious on Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. She sure did give her handbag a work out.

by Anonymousreply 74May 2, 2025 10:47 PM

Brava to Leslie Uggams for a heartfelt and sincere response, even if it seemed (to me) to come out of left field.

by Anonymousreply 75May 2, 2025 11:02 PM

I liked Lily Tomlin better on Laugh In as the telephone operator Ernestine. As a teen, it delighted me that she snorted when she laughed.

by Anonymousreply 76May 2, 2025 11:02 PM

[quote]It's just funny to me that an obscure actress from a forgotten show from 60 (!) years ago gets a big conversation here. It's wild.

She wasn't really obscure. For anyone who grew up in the 70s and 80s she was one of those faces that was everywhere for many years. I'm not old enough to have seen Laugh-In expect for Nick at Nite reruns in the 90s but I knew her from the original Freaky Friday and several other live action Disney movies in the 70s. She also did countless TV guest star appearances - The Love Boat, Alice, ChiPs, Trapper John M.D., You Can't Do That On Television, The Muppet Show. She played Screech's mom on Saved By The Bell. I had forgotten The Lost Saucer but seeing the credits at r14 brought back memories. She also did tons of voice over work and had a long-running recurring role on Sesame Street in the 90s which would make her recognizable to whole new generation.

For some reason I thought she did a lot of game shows like Hollywood Squares, Pyramid and Match Game but I don't see those on her imdb page.

by Anonymousreply 77May 2, 2025 11:40 PM

Do people actually put game shows on their imdb page, r77?

by Anonymousreply 78May 3, 2025 12:03 AM

Who the fuck cares? What's your point? This is DL, which traffics in popular culture, including well-remembered TV shows from the '60s that were considered cutting-edge at the time.

by Anonymousreply 82May 3, 2025 2:40 AM

I loved her when she was on TV and in movies in the 70s, but once she discovered social media and started posting she got on my nerves. By the time she started telling everyone to unite around Donald Trump in 2016 I was done with her.

by Anonymousreply 83May 3, 2025 3:03 AM

She, I assumed, was still posting regularly till recently on her X account, usually very innocently corny but witty little jokes including self-deprecatingly poking fun at the experienced effects of being old. She and her characterizations were so much fun. 😔

by Anonymousreply 89May 3, 2025 5:08 AM

I like hearing that, R89.

by Anonymousreply 90May 3, 2025 5:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 95May 4, 2025 12:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 96May 4, 2025 2:48 AM

That would explain a lot about Magats

by Anonymousreply 97May 4, 2025 5:00 AM

How do people with Alzheimer's even vote, anyway? I bet their carers just fill their ballots in for them and don't even ask them about their preference. So perhaps she wasn't born MAGA, but rather had MAGA thrust upon her.

Nancy Sinatra posted a nice tribute on twitter
