Once every 6 months
Admit it, how often do you wash your jeans?

Once a week, more in hot weather
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 30, 2025 10:19 AM |
Do you wear them every day, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 30, 2025 10:19 AM |
Every 3 wearings or so
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 30, 2025 10:26 AM |
Wear 2-3 times, then wash. OP, you're disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 30, 2025 10:27 AM |
After 2-3 wearings.
Every six months, OP?? Those must be some baggy ass jeans you are wearing and definitely not doing you any favors.

Ewwww i didn't need to read this at 6am

R2 No, I don't. I own three pairs and I wear them a couple of days a week, and I shower. OF COURSE, I wear clean underwear every day. Then I wash them on the same day and begin the cycle again. I've talked to people who NEVER wash them.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 30, 2025 11:29 AM |
8-10 wearings...
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 30, 2025 11:29 AM |
Just know that you’re less likely than others to notice that your own clothes smell not-so-fresh.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 30, 2025 11:37 AM |
R9 I'm aware. I always do a deep sniff (both crotch and crack areas) before I put them on. I don't wash them as often because I don't want shrinkage.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 30, 2025 11:42 AM |
Tho I have to admit to Febrezing in the past, and that's how I know that shit does work very well.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 30, 2025 11:51 AM |
Every 3rd wearing.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 30, 2025 11:58 AM |
After every wearing.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 30, 2025 11:59 AM |
Every 3rd wearing. I turn them inside out and let them air dry on pants hangers. I wear a type called Selvedge (sp?) and they wear incredibly well.I have a lot of them because I wear dark jeans, white shirt and blue blazer to work each day.

The question is really dependent on how many jeans are in your rotation. I have about eight. Five are day-to-day jeans in various stages of fading and fraying. Three are my "good" jeans.
The five, hung on hooks inside my closet where they can air out between wearings, get laundered when they become soiled, smell, or begin to really lose their shape. The "good" jeans are hung on wooden hangers and only get dry cleaned when necessary.

r15, can you give us more details? This is so fascinating.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 30, 2025 2:29 PM |
"Dry cleaned???"
Holy shit.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 30, 2025 2:32 PM |
I wear very pale stonewash jeans and get completely trashed quite often so I’m constantly washing spilt drinks etc off them
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 30, 2025 2:33 PM |
Wear them twice, then wash. If I wear them more before a wash they smell. Washing them after every wear seems to be too much considering that the color fades quite a bit in the wash and dryer.

Clearly I'm washing my jeans too often. I treat all my clothes the same - wear it once (for more than 2-3 hours), and it gets washed.
I guess I'm not supposed to do that? I'm being serious. I've heard that some people have a couple of wears before they wash jeans - but I didn't think that many people actually did it?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 30, 2025 2:34 PM |
I'm sensing a lot of OCD on this thread...
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 30, 2025 2:45 PM |
I hardly ever wear jeans except when working in the house or garage or outside. They get dirty and I wash them. If I am wearing “dress jeans” out somewhere, as long as I didn’t spill anything on them, I will wear them a few times before washing.
The only things I wash every time are socks, underwear, t-shirts, gym clothes and wash cloths. Everything else is as needed.

From NYT's Wirecutter column 8/20/24:
How often do I need to wash my jeans?
It sounds wrong to admit you’re not washing your clothes regularly. But when it comes to jeans, I do so only every two months, unless they’ve gotten unexpectedly dirty or smelly.
Hazel Morley, VP of design at menswear provider Bonobos, said she washes her jeans as little as possible to ensure they last a long time. Until your jeans are visibly in need—or smell in need—of a washing, hold off on cleaning them.
To keep your jeans dark for a very long time, hand-wash them inside out, and then hang-dry them right-side out. Washing jeans inside out in cold water will help preserve the color of richer, darker dyes. To maintain the fabric’s like-new darkness, hand-wash your jeans inside out in a bathtub full of cold water, Morley said. Then hang them to dry right-side out.
For the average person who isn’t obsessed with keeping their jeans in perfect condition, machine-washing works too. Washing your jeans inside out helps maintain their color by protecting the outside fibers, regardless of whether you wash them by hand or in the machine.
As for what will actually clean your jeans, skip the specialty denim detergents, and instead opt for something mild, like Tide Free & Gentle, a pick in our guide to the best laundry detergents.
If you aren’t a jeans purist, throw them in the washer inside out.
“I’ll never suggest drying your jeans in a dryer, which can be really hard on clothes,” Morley said. For air-drying jeans, we recommend a sturdy, accordion-style rack, like the Amazon Basics Foldable Laundry Rack. This rack holds plenty of wet, heavy garments without wobbling, and it folds smoothly for storage. If your jeans are super-stiff after you hang-dry them, Morley said you can toss them in a cool dryer for 10 minutes to soften them.

R23 - sounds exhausting. I guess I should wash them inside out going forward.
But here's a question - and I know it sounds dumb - but jeans get baggy on me after several hours. They are great right out of the dryer. Does that mean I should buy smaller jeans if I'm not going to wear them often?
Jeans have some stretch in them and they look baggy relatively quickly on me. I'm not rail thin - but I don't like the jeans sagging on my ass and thighs, which inevitably happens.

I wash after three or four wears.
I turned mine inside out and then dry them outside, but not in direct sunlight. Keeping them out of my clothes dryer makes them last a lot longer, and they don't fade as quickly.

Unless you only own one pair of jeans and have nothing else to cover your nudity than a few hastily snatched leaves as you wash those jeansvin the river, after every wearing is the correct answer.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 30, 2025 6:07 PM |
It's really not, prisspot @R26.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 30, 2025 6:25 PM |
When they start smelling funky. Maybe after 3-4 wearings
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 30, 2025 6:44 PM |
Jeans need to be washed?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 30, 2025 6:46 PM |
Febreezing your clothes is disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 30, 2025 7:02 PM |
My friend wears incredibly expensive jeans (San Francisco) and the store clerk she buys from taught her to put them in the freezer for cleaning! I shit you not. They do look amazing, but I think it is beyond disgusting to not launder jeans after running around the city in them. Gross!
I’m like other here, wear 2 - 3 times, then wash.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 1, 2025 1:57 PM |
R30, I Febreze for wrinkled on clean t-shirts because I refuse to iron. But I agree, if you’re using it as an odor mask for dirty clothes? Disgusting. Go run a load!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 1, 2025 2:00 PM |
I admitted to the Febrezing, but it was ONLY in "Emergencies."
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 2, 2025 11:36 AM |
I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 2, 2025 11:39 AM |
every 2-3, unless I spill something on them (which happens as I'm a klutz)
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 2, 2025 11:07 PM |
If they are really nice dark jeans, put off washing for as long as possible before sending them to the dry cleaner.
Put off again before finally washing inside out in cold water, delicate cycle; air dry.
