“ Pakistan's information minister Attaullah Tarar said on Wednesday that the country has credible intelligence that India intends to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours.”
What will Trump do? Or rather what boastful thing will he say? Or will he just ignore it if it actually happens?

America has traditionally been Pakistan's ally. Now that T has thrown all tradition out the window, mostly because he hates brown people but also because he just doesn't care, India is taking advantage of this historic opportunity. I also wouldn't be surprised if China took Taiwan during his term.

I remember when India refused to sanction Russia after the Ukraine war started and there were all these Chodi incels gloating on Reddit, "Why should we care, this is white people problem." Well, let me most gleefully return the favour and say that this conflict is "brown people problem." Let them nuke each other into smithereens for all I care.
And don't get me started on Pakistan, where they just tighten anti-apostasy laws any time there's an economic downturn. Which is of course always.

Not really, we have distinct ethinicities here and different languages as well. I can't converse with anyone south of our border, even though we're all Catholics. Though I understand how an American would just file everything under "Slav". That's pretty much how we got stuck with the terrible Dayton Agreement, dooming Bosnia to shithole status for all time.

There's already a huge amount of Pakistani sectarianism in the UK, any military conflict is going to tip them over the edge and will see major violence on the streeet.
It will make the riots of last summer look like a playground squabble.
And it will mean the new airport in Pakistan so many British politicians are lobbying for will never be built!

To be fair, Muslims and Hindus lived side by side for 800 years in the various kingdoms and Rajas of the subcontinent. Often they were not in harmony, but even so, they shared the same music, the same foods, the same culture, and the same languages. Even today, the country of India is one of the largest Muslim nations by the numbers. (About 200,000,000 Muslims live there). Hindi and Urdu are basically the same language, but Urdu is spelled using a form of Arabic script, and Hindi is written using Devanagari. The partition of India was a political appeasement gesture, during which perhaps 10 million people lost their lives, with over a hundred million people being forced out of their homes and marched to places where they had no homes and no relatives waiting for them. Pakistan is hopelessly corrupt, and India has large pockets of corruption - perhaps worse than in the past, with the Hindu nationalism of Modi. It's very sad and the current situation with 2 nuclear powers is quite scary. How naive for some people to think that a potential nuclear conflict in south Asia would have zero effects on the rest of the planet. (Radioactive fallout anyone? ) I guess it's part of human nature that people cannot let go of the past and will go on hating for generations beyond some initial hurtful action.

R46 I know that Islam rejects Hinduism as a polytheistic religion and therefore heretical. Generally, other Abrahamic religions are accepted with conditions. I'm not sure what the objection is of Indians/Hindus to Muslims are. It may just be retaliatory. The Hindus have generally accepted other religions in India such as Jews and Parsi/Zoroastrians.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 7, 2025 9:23 AM |
Unlike Jews and Christians, during the islamic conquest and occupation, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc. were given a choice: convert to islam or death. Millions were slaughtered. The Catholics also killed their fair share but didn't come close to what is known as the Hindu Holocaust. Like all religious minorities in islamic countries, Hindus are quite persecuted in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Hindus are no saints either, but they don't have the same hegemonic/imperialist imperatives of islam.

r50 The Chinese government's persecution of the Uighurs is directed by their Communist ideals. Their religion is just a happenstance. Those Uighurs could be Christians or Shamans and the CCP's treatment of them would be the same. One could make the same argument for the Tibetans. Same about the Chinese nationals who are supporters of Democracy, etc. If anything, most non-Islamic nations (especially the West) have bent out of shape to accommodate Muslim minorities. Myanmar is an exception but I'm sympathetic to that poor Buddhist nation for being wary of the Muslims considering the destruction that Islamic invasion brought to the ancient Buddhist world in that sub-continent. Learning from the past can only be wisdom.

There is no doubt that there were numerous attacks on India from Muslims from the 7th century onward. However, they only achieved numerical supremacy in the far west (what is now Pakistan). Although Timur conquered a large part of India, he did not leave enough people in place to displace the dominant Hindu population, and the same thing was true of the Mughal empire later. Lots of Hindu people converted for expedience, just as some Jews in Spain converted to Catholicism during the great expulsion. Some Muslim rulers were tolerant, others were quite harsh. But always Muslims were a smaller subset of the total population, so although they might have conquered various regions of India, they could not forcibly convert the entire population, unlike what they were able to accomplish in the Middle East and North Africa. Their "beef" (pun intended) with Hindus was polytheism. Islam is a strictly monotheistic religion. Hinduism has many many gods. The Hindu temples were rife with depictions of gods and were full of statues. These were all offensive to Muslims. By the same token, Hindus regarded Muslims as unclean, mostly because they were not vegetarian, and worst of all, they ate beef, which was sacred to Hindus. Before the great partition after WWII, Muslims probably constituted 1/3- 1/4 of the total population of the subcontinent. Still today, Muslims are about 1/5 of the population of India. And many of the big Bollywood stars are from Muslim backgrounds. It has been centuries since the Muslims tried to forcibly convert Hindus to Islam.
Genetically and even linguistically, they are the same people. Many of them speak the same language. (Hindustani). They eat the same foods, sing the same songs, see the same Bollywood films, which means that culturally they are basically the same people. How sad that rulers and governments foment hate between them to achieve power.
