Haven't they been trying to get this project off the ground for years? I read a long time ago that Jake Gyllenhaal was involved.
That offbeat casting would work.

Oh good, just what the world needs — another movie about Jonestown.

Leonardo Di Caprio produced a doco and has been trying to get a feature film made. There was also a project based on Debbie Layton’s book that had Chloe Grace Moretz and Joseph Gordon Levitt attached IIRC

No one could better Powers Boothe’s terrifying and electric performance as Jim Jones.

There's really no need for a Jonestown movie.

We are all IN "Jones town" fucking MAGATS drank the koolaid and we are watching the result.
I'd say a movie is timely.

Oh just shut the fuck up r6. Not everything is about Trump. Jesus.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 10, 2025 6:25 PM |
Spooks would never allow a remotely accurate Jim Jones movie to be released
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 10, 2025 6:29 PM |
Not offbeat casting.
Hader has the looks (put black aviators o him), and we know he can play the crazy.
Brilliant.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 10, 2025 6:34 PM |
I still say David Dastmalchian should do it. He has a darkness that Hader lacks.

I've come to realize that he is a very attractive man. I think comedians are overlooked in their handsomeness.
I think Andy Samberg is extremely handsome and it definitely in my top 5. He is my type to a tee.

Gene Jones delivered a definitive Jim Jones in The Sacrament (2013), playing very much against type.
The movie is a good potboiler and a nice entry in the ouvre of one Ti West.

Hader isn't that funny but I'm not sure he'd be a great dramtic actor either.

[quote] I don't want to say too much, but last year, my friend had a fling with Hader while he was filming in Canada. Not just a hook-up, they were a thing. It lasted a couple months on and off. He's a freak. My friend is male. He and Bill met on the set of It 2, actually – my friend is a PA. I don’t want to say anything that’ll give him away (I don’t want to get him in any trouble), but I won’t leave you totally hanging.
[quote]- It was his first time doing anything really serious with a guy, but (obviously) he realized he liked it a lot. He and my friend (who we can call A) didn’t really talk about sexuality, so I don’t know if he’s gay or bi or what, but he DEFINITELY likes men. - That said, it wasn’t his first time bottoming when they fucked. I don’t know if it was his ex pegging him or someone else, but A said it wasn’t his first rodeo there. - The first time he sucked A’s dick, they were in a sauna. Apparently, he spent the whole time before talking about the McArthur case (true crime seems to be a go-to for him when he’s nervous?) and A told him to suck his dick just to shut him up for a minute. He was shocked it worked! - Again, big dick. Like, could plausibly do porn big. - He’s pretty shy and private, but has a real thing for public sex. BJs in the bathroom/movies/etc. type of stuff. - Real movie buff too. They went to the Lightbox a lot when they were together. - He’s very funny IRL too. He’s not putting on an act in interviews – pretty much exactly the same. I don’t know if he can even do the fakey-fakey PR thing. - He’s a romantic. Wined and dined A. Not over-the-top showy/stupid expensive stuff, but always very nice and thoughtful. - They ended it after filming ended. Not on bad terms by any means; they just led different lives in different places and it was never serious enough to try the long distance thing. - I’m pretty sure fucking men isn’t a one-time thing. Last time Bill was in TO, they hooked up, and A thinks it’ll happen again next time. He isn’t sure how much action Bill’s gotten since, but he wasn’t exactly rusty.

Can they stop with these stupid biopics already!? Jesus.

I’m only interested if it’s a musical.

Powers Boothe already did it to absolute perfection.
If it had been a film, he would've won the Oscar and have been among the best winners ever.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 4, 2025 10:55 PM |
The film would have to show the bisexual orgies, drug use, exploitation and the racial discrimination by the cult(black members did the lowly work, did not make up the cult’s leadership)

R10 did you watch Barry? He definitely showed some darkness as a hired killer.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 5, 2025 3:31 AM |
R22 Absolutely. Powers Boothe was perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 5, 2025 6:21 AM |
I’ve tried watching a few episodes of Barry, but I never found his character a believable hitman. I know Hader co-created the show, yet I felt he was the wrong person to play that character.
