There was a shocking story on the podcast "This is Actually Happening" where a woman went in to have a cyst removed from inside her lip, and her heart stopped under anesthesia. Her whole system started shutting down and for some reason they ended up having to remove both her legs!
The eisode's called "What if a minor procedure left you permanently altered?"
[italic]"After self-medicating for years to cope with the emotional aftermath of an abusive, religious upbringing, a woman goes in for a minor surgery, and when she emerges, everything has changed."

Silver lining. He can use it as a stand to spin around on like an ice skating princess.
Gotta be positive!

r5 Can you spoil it and tell us what she'd been self-medicating with which interfered with anaesthesia so much? So I won't repeat the same mistake.

Yes. She worked as a stripper for years and got into drug culture, constantly dabbing in increasingly large amounts. (“Marijuana dabs are used by vaporizing the concentrates on a hot surface and inhaling the resulting fumes. Slang terms for dabs include butane hash oil, honey oil, budder, crumble and shatter. Dabs contain very high THC levels, the compound in cannabis that creates a high when consumed.”)
This can damage your respiratory system, for one.
I’ll listen to that section again and see what’s said - though the doctors’ opinions are just theories. They just know everything began to crash and fail at once.

R37, RuPaul would still produce content like that. But RuPaul's Drag Race won't.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 26, 2025 10:56 AM |
r39 Oh wow, so "just" weed then. I thought she was taking some obscure Chinese traditional root medicine or something. Makes sense that compromised lungs would have such an effect, which I guess is why the anaesthesiologist asked me before my big cancer surgery if I could (theoretically) manage three flights of stairs. If you don't have good lungs, you're kinda fucked if they need to put you on a ventilator.

Okay, I listened to that podcast again, here’s the deets:
The patient was 23, and initially the 15-minute procedure under general anesthesia was fine. But in the recovery room she began aspirating blood, breathed it in, and her heart failed. The heart was worn out from the years of constant THC dapping, plus regularly doing hot yoga 5 or 6 days a week had also stressed it extremely. Anyway, her heart failed for 15 minutes from something known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, or Broken Heart Disease (most often seen in 90-year-old women.)
A domino effect led to system wide failure - the liver, kidney and bladder weren’t functioning and as shock set in her blood rushed to preserve her internal organs as each failed. This put all her limbs at risk. Her brain and entire body swelled grotesquely. She was put in an induced coma, onto dialysis and ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, a heart and lung bypass system) for 10 day. The doctors expected her to die and her family was advised to fly in to say their farewells.
Her right leg was amputated plus part of her left foot and all its toes. An interesting aspect of the story is while her physical recovery was slow and painful, leading her to abuse alcohol for a while, she didn’t freak out about losing her leg. She immediately snapped into a “Well, this is what I am like now” mode.

She had pre-existing heart disease. That type of cardiomyopathy causes a severely depressed cardiac ejection fraction. I find it hard to believe she didn’t have other symptoms like shortness of breath and extreme fatigue. She was not a healthy and not a good candidate for elective outpatient surgery.

^^ Moms, PLEASE use ONLY small dapping doses to quiet fussy children… and do not drag them to your hot yoga classes!

She doesn’t have a leg to stand on!
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 26, 2025 9:15 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 26, 2025 9:22 PM |
She’s dead 😢
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 27, 2025 11:35 AM |
Apparently it was an infection that spiraled out of control, and amputation of a leg wasn’t enough to stop it.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 27, 2025 11:38 AM |
was it related to her transition?

I'm sure she was doing more that dabbing cannabis, look at her, you can tell, probably meth, coke etc.

Either way, no one deserves amputation and then death
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 28, 2025 7:15 PM |
