Zohran Mamdani is in the mayoral race.
Homophobic

Please - if a convicted white supremacist pussy grabbing rapist can be president - a homophobic religious socialist can be mayor
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 27, 2025 4:36 PM |
He is pro-gay, I went and looked at his record when I first started hearing about him - he's the rep for one of my best friends and she LOVES him - he is really smart and charismatic and nothing he has said I haven't agreed with so right now he's got my vote

Socialists aren’t smart.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 27, 2025 4:46 PM |
According to the poll in the above-linked article, him and Cuomo are they only ones with any traction. Rest assured that Cuomo will dump millions into making sure Staten Island, South Brooklyn and Eastern Queens all associate his name with "Defund the Police."

Add ranked choice voting to the mix and it's anyone's race to win.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 27, 2025 4:57 PM |
This is what that old commie snake oil salesman Bernie Sanders did to the Democratic Party: he opened a doorway for far-left snakes like Zohran to slither in and use the Democratic brand like a skin suit to sell their false promises, insane Marxist ideology, and shitty grievance politics. THIS is why the Democratic brand has gone straight down the shitter and is now has favorables in the low 20s.
This guy belongs running on the Green Party ticket, not as a Democrat.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 27, 2025 4:59 PM |
He wants state-run grocery stores, free buses, $30/hr minimum wage, and a rent freeze, all of which would be instantly popular with many voters and all of which would be catastrophic in the long run.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 27, 2025 5:03 PM |
[quote] Add ranked choice voting to the mix and it's anyone's race to win.
No it isn’t. The most recent RCV models show Cuomo mopping the floor with this douchebag.
Minority voters in the boroughs and moderates around the city aren’t buying what he’s selling. Outside of Reddit groups and far-left white transplant enclaves in north Brooklyn, he’ll never win a majority and there aren’t nearly enough votes for the other DSA loons like Lander to push him over the top.

R9, Eldergays won't forget when Andrew created a campaign slogan when his father, Mario, was running for Governor against Ed Koch .... "Vote For Cuomo, Not the Homo." Mario won. Now Andrew is pro-gay, to get our vote. He screwed New York by signing the "No Bail, No Jail" bill. Continues to deny his actions during Covid sent thousands to their deaths, by forcing elders back into nursing homes after hospital stay.

He's advocated for defunding the police in the past. He wants to "re-imagine public safety" which means less cops, less prison time, and little jail time for criminals. He thinks the homeless should camp out anywhere.

If the poll has any validity - and who's to say it does - then Cuomo is going to set his sights on Zohran and spend millions of dollars of dark money to paint him as some unholy combination of Doctor Mengele and Osama Bin Laden
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 28, 2025 3:07 PM |
^^^No need. New Yorkers know very well what muslims are capable of. I don't give a shit that he's gay. I do give a shit that he's muslim. If he claims he's gay and muslim, the guy really has issues.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 28, 2025 3:53 PM |
If the people of New York have even a lick of sense, they'll run screaming from Mamdani's candidacy. It does not take a political genius to see what will happen: all the libs will excitedly vote for this guy and the moment he's in office, he'll do exactly what his Muslim constituency — the only one that matters to a fellow Muslim — wants, and just like when Democrats and liberals worked like hell to get a Muslim elected to Hamtramck, Mi, once in office they'll turn against our liberal and Democratic values.
How will NY's gay community feel when the rainbow flag is banned in the city? When protests against homophobia are shut down, but protests against Islamophobia are elevated? When, having painted a target on every NYer's back, the Trump administration abandons NY in the inevitable crisis and blames it on "far-left radical liberals electing an unqualified socialist"?

This morning I had to go to what some of you on here like to call South Brooklyn. I often forget how religious the boroughs are, especially Judaism. There are a lot more muslims than even 10 years ago and now halal places on what had always been an avenue of mostly kosher places.
The middle and working class in the boroughs took a hard hit on 9/11. They have not forgotten and never will.

by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 21, 2025 4:25 AM |
Mamdani probably doesn’t have a chance. I put him at # 2 on my ballot with Brad Lander at # 1.
Regardless of how the Dem primary turns out, Mamdani and Cuomo will run as independents, which probably means Cuomo’s backers will bribe Eric Adams (who has also said he will run as an independent) to drop out of the race and endorse Cuomo. That supposedly cinches the black working class vote for Cuomo.
All the wealthy powers that be and the firmly entrenched (like the NY Times) are desperate for Cuomo, the status quo candidate, to win, while white progressives and younger voters are for Mamdani.
Stay tuned . . .

Let’s just so he has no relevant experience, is too young and will flop badly in a job that by its very nature requires strong-armed leadership.
You’re not just mayor here, you’re also a de facto business leader, major transportation leader and constant negotiator with the governor and legislature (many things depend on state law, including the MTA, rent, taxes and school control). It won’t go well…

by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 21, 2025 2:30 PM |
My feeling is that we’ve had 55 years of increasingly unbridled capitalism since Reagan became president in 1980. Are Americans happy with that? Most signs point to NO. A large minority international group of people and corporations are wealthy beyond most people’s craziest fantasies of wealth. While the majority stagnate, trying to stretch a buck any way they can.
Enough is enough. Are socialists fantasists with no practical experience? Maybe, but I say let’s go for it and see what happens. There NEEDS to be a radical redistribution of wealth in this country. That could result in a high crime rate or whatever apocalyptic visions conservatives love to picture.
But it might not. So let’s see. Lets try it. It can’t be less dysfunctional than the present capitalist regime, and it might be more successful, which is what conservatives really fear. And I say this as a 70 year old gay white man.

Salaam! This is Heba with Emgage Action and Yama Action. I'm reaching out to you about the New York City Primary Election on Tuesday, June 24th. I’m excited to share that we have two remarkable Muslim candidates who urgently need our support: Zohran Mamdani for Mayor and Shahana Hanif for re-election to the City Council. Both are deeply committed to important issues like building affordable housing, implementing free childcare, protecting immigrant rights, and boosting funding for small businesses.
Can I count on you to support Zohran Mamdani for NYC Mayor and Shahana Hanif for City Council on Tuesday, June 24th?

R30, I have no idea of what you are talking about, but I used to live in Midwood (for 2 years) when it was 99.9% completely all Hasidic Jews. And ALL of the Jewish grocery stores & meat markets had sign on the front saying they were Halal. You seem to understand what Halal is and who uses that term and who butchers their meat the same exact way the muslims do. The Jews butcher their meat the SAME way. So when you say Halal places, Jewish places are also Halal.
You probably shouldn't use the term if you know what it means
I did a quick Google search and Kosher Palace Supermarket, Mittelman Kosher Supermarket & Tip Top Kosher Market are all Halal

R48 is a mentally sick white person. India was a socialist country. Trust me, growing up, there were shortages everywhere because the government commanded how much stuff needed to be produced. My poor mother, and sometimes we had to stand in the hot sun for rations, and we were middle-class. When I say hot sun, in temperatures upwards of 40C or 104F. The poor suffered immensely because not everything was available in abundance. The government-run ration shops were corrupt, and the shoddy quality of rice was distributed. They siphoned off a lot of stuff to sell on the black market for higher prices. The land line telephone density was poor if not abysmal, because no private industry was allowed in the land line system or production of phones. That is just one example. Once India abandoned the licence permit system of production, things improved. Most American whites don't know or understand socialism. They think it is some fancy virtue signaling, and since that sort of thing is vogue among whites as they think it will show off their anti racist credentials, they are willing to vote for such. India is richer now and even with immense population there is less poverty because it abandoned that socialism. And in America it is jews like Bernie sanders who is an extremely evil man who is responsible for this. Like Geroge soros, etc. No doubt jew suffered a lot due to holocaust etc, but never forget Karl Marx is a jew too. His fancy theory caused millions and millions of deaths (100 million and more) and billions in poverty.

R73 - True, I agree, I may have been singling out a people of a particular religion, which is not good on my part, but I want to caution DL white gays or DL gays in general not to fall into a trap of supporting charltan politicians who are selling the snake oil of socialism or progressivism, because you some how want to see being gay, oppression and poor etc as intertwined. And desperately want to virtue signal and show off as somehow full of milk of human kindness. A person can be rich and kind at the same time, but also realize that capitalism provides opportunities for everyone who is willing to seize them and who has the initiative. It is not perfect, but it is the best we have, which can generate wealth and provide equal opportunities even for people unwilling to apply themselves to some extent.

They're not, although those Muslims who are socialist tend to be well-educated and from affluent environments, with these environments shielding them from exposure to those vile Sunni revivalist movements like Deobandism, which strategically target working-class mosques. The Deobandi Movement, which originated in colonial northern India, is a scourge on the spiritual lives of vulnerable Muslim communities and is a driving source of radical Islamism in the UK.

That's generally the case in the west these days. Those who are most supportive of socialism are those who are college-educated and wealthier. It's very different from the socialism/communism of the 19th and 20th centuries that attracted a lot of working class people.
