His publicist says he's not running, "for now." But he's slightly ahead of the only announced candidate, Chris Bianco, in a recent straw poll. Repugs just love abusers and narcissistic psychopaths.
Mel Gibson is the GOP front runner for California governor

This will not end well.

I’m glad there are no Jews in California or our Mel might be in trouble! The Jews are all in New York City, isn’t that so?
Mel told it like it was about them, and he’s suffered for it!

The California GOP is a joke.
I actively assume the Communist Party is larger and more effective.

Mel Gibson is one of the "funniest, meanest celebrities I ever met" since moving to California for work in 1995.
I met Mel Gibson during his divorce from Robin, his ex-wife in 2009. I worked for his ex-wife; it was a very easy divorce.
I was involved with the "forensics accounting" of the Gibson estate during the divorce. One of the best, funniest divorces I was working, Mel was hysterically funny.

This piece of excrement should be excommunicated from public life.

He’d lose.

I served with Ron Reagan. I knew Ron Reagan. Ron Reagan was a friend of mine. Gibson, you're no Ronald Reagan.

Great- another batshit crazy celebrity serving in government- just what we need.

I simply can not believe there are enough clinical imbeciles in California to vote that scum into office.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 14, 2025 7:31 PM |
Mel's got that Australian accent, so some people forget he was actually born in the US of A. Which means, of course, he is eligible to be President!
But that would never happen, right? Right? RIGHT!?!?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 14, 2025 7:39 PM |
This is more proof that some people do not deserve the right to vote.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 14, 2025 7:49 PM |
Grift. I'm assuming Mel is running out of cash.

The announced candidate, Chad (not Chris) Bianco, is a sheriff, a MAGA and Fox News favorite, and has white supremacist ties. He was (is) a member of the Oath Keepers. Another piece of runny shit.

The right in California is always trying to recall the Democratic governor since they succeeded against Gray Davis (and we ended up with Arnold Schwarzenegger who so decimated the budget and fucked the state up that it took Jerry Brown coming back for two more terms to fix the mess the governator made). They've tried a recall against Newsom once before, and he won an even greater percentage of the vote in the recall as he did in the election that put him there. And these recalls are expensive to boot, costing the state hundreds of millions of dollars to administer.
This attempt will not make it off the ground. Even the people who were directly impacted by the LA wildfire know that it is not Newsom's fault that there was a fire. All of the bullshit that has been thrown at Newsom (and all of the officials in the impacted areas) has been proven false, whether it was the supposed cuts to LA County's fire department (that were, in reality, budgetary increases and shifting of funds as the departments were reorganized) to the lack of water pressure (well, if you open all the valves on your sprinkler system, you will lose pressure and none of them will work; that's why we have zones and you don't water your entire lawn all at once.... but tell that to folks whose houses were about to burn and see if they'll shut off their garden hoses), to even the reservoir that was supposedly closed (it wasn't "closed", it was undergoing maintenance [italic]so that water would be available when needed[/italic] and it was a horrible coincidence that no one could have foreseen)... I could go on and on, enumerating all of the bullshit that Shitler and his minions attempted to throw at Newsom and California, all of which was proven wrong.
What's sad is that [italic]Newsweek[/italic] got the story wrong — I know, shocking! — because [bold]Chad[/bold] Bianco has announced his candidacy for governor in a race that is a year and a half off, not for this ridiculous rumor that has not even begun collecting let alone gathered enough signatures to force another round of recall madness. And of course they overlook the fact that any celebrity name hypothesized in a poll will garner more recognition than some random rightwing Oath Keeper/3%-er nutcase sheriff of a SoCal county that half the people in the state would not be able to point to on a map despite its size and geographic importance. Side note: Sheriff Bianco is being sued to the tune of $100 million over painting a random rightwing nutjob with a gun as another potential Trump assassin (when the nutjob brought his gun to the Coachella rally to get the media, not Trump), and of course Bianco will lose and the taxpayers will foot the bill to give the gun nut a bunch of money and Bianco will skate.
California's Assembly should have changed the law regarding recalls after the last fiasco. All it takes is 12% of the number of people who voted for the incumbent in the most recent general election to sign a petition and it's on. There are enough rightwing loons in the Central Valley to achieve this amount, but they can't do it without using paid signature collectors, so it's not truly a grassroots thing. The Assembly should raise the threshold to 20% or 25% — a number still reachable by the right in California, but it would make it cost-prohibitive and require an authentic grassroots effort to accomplish, not some ginned-up astroturf campaign by the rich fucks who hate California but still choose to live here.
Fuck Chad Bianco, and fuck Mel Gibson.

Last look that dangerous bandit was a force of nature. California has plenty of roads for him to warrior upon. What surprise that politicians and actors have so many overlapping skills.

R22, I don't get why we haven't done away with these stupid, expensive recalls.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 14, 2025 9:03 PM |
To R20-Mel has a ton of $$$$, after his divorce from his ex-wife Robin, he had 450 million dollars.
I'm guessing he is over 500 million now.
