Trump bans student protests

Is this legal? Not that he would actually care. Isn’t this regulating speech?

by Anonymousreply 72July 24, 2025 9:50 AM

We should ban him from having another birthday.

by Anonymousreply 1March 4, 2025 9:26 PM

Freedom of assembly.

by Anonymousreply 2March 4, 2025 9:29 PM

It isn't legal.

by Anonymousreply 3March 4, 2025 9:30 PM

He can't control how schools manage these things. Fuck this ignorant shitbag. Again.

by Anonymousreply 4March 4, 2025 9:45 PM

He’s just rage baiting.

by Anonymousreply 5March 4, 2025 9:46 PM

Trump operates on the basis that until the Supreme Court tells him not to do something, he will.

Ever wonder why there has never been an Emoluments Article in either Impeachment?

by Anonymousreply 6March 4, 2025 9:49 PM

Trump is diverting attention from the real kitchen table issues.. namely grocery prices are thru the roof!

by Anonymousreply 7March 4, 2025 9:50 PM

It’s part of the destroy all universities by April dark enlightenment plan.

by Anonymousreply 8March 4, 2025 9:55 PM

Trump is Robespierre. Eventually the chaos will subside with his death.

by Anonymousreply 9March 4, 2025 9:58 PM

I wish he’d ban pussy

by Anonymousreply 10March 4, 2025 10:00 PM

You know, this sort of shit will fundamentally alter the college experience and that pisses me off. College is about speech, assembly, protest, organizing. He has no fucking right to put his malevolent stamp on an American rite of passage. God, I wish this asshole was dead.

by Anonymousreply 11March 4, 2025 10:09 PM

Well, at least the Fascist dictator and whore for Putin said "thank you" at the end.

He's so polite as he attempts to shit on the Constitution in every conceivable way.

by Anonymousreply 12March 4, 2025 10:12 PM

Who has Trump appointed as Soliciter General? He or she's going to have their work cut out for them arguing this through the courts. Hopefully, the nominee is as incompetent as the others. Does the SG get a committee hearing and vote?

by Anonymousreply 13March 4, 2025 10:36 PM

They are just ignoring the court rulings R13

by Anonymousreply 14March 4, 2025 11:23 PM

Not legal. Not applicable. Ignore.

by Anonymousreply 15March 4, 2025 11:28 PM

R14. You’re smarter than that comment—this is utterly meaningless, and you know it. Don’t feed the bear. Nothing is going to come of this. It’s nuts six ways to Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 16March 4, 2025 11:30 PM

Umm, the stick is withholding sponsored programs funding. And they are already actively withholding sponsored programs funding in flagrant violation of the multiple TROs and are preliminary injunction already.

ElderLez, I've been a fan of yours for years and have followed your posts. (we've exchanged pleasantries).

Serious question: Do you see anything hopeful? Any suggestion for those of us who see none at all? (or are you as horribly depressed as I am at this moment).

Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 19March 4, 2025 11:39 PM

I’m depressed. But fuck those fuckers.

He's talking about "illegal" protests, which most of therm are not, his point is moot.

by Anonymousreply 22March 5, 2025 12:07 AM

Um…none of those cases involve basic First Amendment law. There’s no nuance there…and it’s much easier to enforce injunctive relief on a fast track basis.

by Anonymousreply 23March 5, 2025 12:09 AM

The DEI EO impact on funding one does involve first amendment law. I’ll look for that one, but here’s Columbia being threatened with losing all of their funding over protests that are long since over.

First amendment ruling that is being ignored as I type.

Just stop. Understand that “banning protests” is, inherently, a most basic violation of the 1st A and is the quickest governmental action to get full push back.

by Anonymousreply 26March 5, 2025 12:19 AM

Isn't the federal funding appropriated by Congress? In other words, he has no control over it?

by Anonymousreply 27March 5, 2025 12:20 AM

He's just farting out whatever he's paid to say. He doesn't care what actually happens.

by Anonymousreply 32March 5, 2025 12:44 AM

Trump took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same,” and everyday he and his administration attack it in the most brazen of ways. This entire traitorous administration needs to be dissolved.

by Anonymousreply 37March 5, 2025 5:14 AM

If my finger held a button that could kill this motherfucking Trump right now, I think I'd press it.

by Anonymousreply 38March 5, 2025 5:21 AM

It is cognitively difficult for people to process new information at odds with how the world has worked for all of their existence.

by Anonymousreply 39March 5, 2025 12:03 PM

You mean people have been sufficiently dumbed down that they do not remember their own history?

Remember the three modern pillars of slave ownership:

Keep them, sick,

Keep them stupid,

Keep them poor.

Right R44. And we know how Trump deals with lawsuits.

College aged voters will never show up in huge numbers to decide what kind of country they live in, so it's good that addled, criminal seniors fuck with them.

They still won't vote anyway! Roast them on spits!

by Anonymousreply 46March 6, 2025 2:28 AM

What are you going on about R46? 67% of generation Z white males voted for Trump.

And this ban isn’t enforced by arresting young people. It’s enforced by bankrupting the University.

Can Trump get away with this? None of us know.

The admin may have its hands tied or not as far as awarded contracts and grants. But future contracts and grants are decided on by the admin. Unless something is congressionally mandated—-normally..

I can see future funding not being made and instead a good American university like Liberty gets a grant instead.

Trump is throwing nothing but high inside fastballs.

The Harvard chapter of the American Association of University Professors, as well as the national AAUP, have sued the federal government over extortion of Harvard. You can read the lawsuit here:

[quote]Donald Trump doesn’t give a damn about antisemitism. If he did, he wouldn’t be dining with known antisemites,” Yohnka said. “What Donald Trump cares about is power and nobody criticizing him, and he realizes that academic institutions are going to study his failed policies.

Letter from Harvard's president:

Late Friday night, the administration issued an updated and expanded list of demands, warning that Harvard must comply if we intend to “maintain [our] financial relationship with the federal government.” It makes clear that the intention is not to work with us to address antisemitism in a cooperative and constructive manner. Although some of the demands outlined by the government are aimed at combating antisemitism, the majority represent direct governmental regulation of the “intellectual conditions” at Harvard.

I encourage you to read the letter to gain a fuller understanding of the unprecedented demands being made by the federal government to control the Harvard community. They include requirements to “audit” the viewpoints of our student body, faculty, staff, and to “reduc[e] the power” of certain students, faculty, and administrators targeted because of their ideological views. We have informed the administration through our legal counsel that we will not accept their proposed agreement. The University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights.

The administration’s prescription goes beyond the power of the federal government. It violates Harvard’s First Amendment rights and exceeds the statutory limits of the government’s authority under Title VI. And it threatens our values as a private institution devoted to the pursuit, production, and dissemination of knowledge. No government—regardless of which party is in power—should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.
