Matthew Perry Was Given 27 Ketamine Shots Before Death

His death was attributed to "acute effects of ketamine" with accidental drowning as the manner of death.

A recent documentary has shed light on the final days of Matthew Perry, revealing that the actor received 27 ketamine injections in the three days leading up to his tragic death at 54 in October 2023. The documentary, 'Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy,' features insights from US Attorney Martin Estrada. Mr Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the hit TV sitcom 'Friends' from 1994-2004, died after having been found unconscious in a swimming pool at his house in Los Angeles in October 2023. According to the autopsy report, his death was attributed to "acute effects of ketamine" with accidental drowning as the manner of death.

According to the documentary, Martin Estrada, who previously supervised the investigation into Mr Perry's death, revealed that the actor had been administered 27 doses of ketamine by "people who should have known much better," the New York Post reported.

Five people have been charged in connection with his death, including two doctors, his assistant, and an alleged drug dealer known as "the Ketamine Queen." An unsealed indictment from August alleges that Perry's assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, and acquaintance Erik Flemingcollaborated with doctors Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez to obtain large quantities of ketamine for Perry before his overdose death.

Jasveen Sangha, the "Ketamine Queen," is specifically charged with supplying the ketamine that ultimately led to his death. According to the indictment Iwamasa administered the final three doses of ketamine purchased from Sangha to Mr Perry on the day of his death, using needles provided by Dr Plasencia.

"Dr Plasencia was very clear in text messages… that he saw this as an opportunity to make a lot of money in a short amount of time, and he allegedly did just that," Mr Estrada said in the new documentary.

Dr. Plasencia and Jasveen Sangha have entered not-guilty pleas and are scheduled to stand trial on March 4 in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Kenneth Iwamasa, Erik Fleming, and Dr. Mark Chavez have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

"In the past, we used to call these things overdose deaths and do more blaming of the victim. We don't do that anymore. We blame the drug dealers, the drug sellers, for taking advantage of those addiction issues to cause death or serious injury, and that's why we bring these cases. The big takeaway from this case is that when people involved in reckless activity, whether that be drug dealing or other activity, cause the death of others, there needs to be accountability," the attorney added.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a potent anaesthetic sanctioned by US health authorities for surgical use, administered either through intramuscular injection or intravenous (IV) delivery. Chemically related to the recreational substance PCP, ketamine has also been used recreationally for its euphoric properties. However, it can induce hallucinations and may adversely affect respiratory and cardiac functions.

Notably, the FDA approved the drug in 2019 as a medication for treatment-resistant depression. While some experts and patients call it lifesaving, others say it's addictive and causes bladder ailments. Long-term, heavy use, of ketamine can cause severe, irreversible damage to the bladder and kidneys and excruciating abdominal pain. The drug should only be obtained and administered by a licensed and experienced medical doctor.

Manifesting this for Elmo.

The part about the doc shooting him up in the car in Long Beach and him freezing up after, is just tragic. This happened again at Perry's home. If that's not a sign that's too high of a dose, what else do you need, death?

Oh, wait.

Sorry, I can't see Matthew Perry as a "victim" here.

There just isn’t time for this prick when the Nazi’s and the Russian's are coming!

by Anonymousreply 5February 26, 2025 3:18 PM

If this was a poor black man none of this investigation would take place.

He was nothing more than a spoiled hollywood actor.

Don't apologize to us, apologize to Matthew.

Okay, maybe this is why he died

by Anonymousreply 8February 26, 2025 3:35 PM

Imagine being so mentally fucked up that when you're put under anasthesia you think "Ahh, that's better."

by Anonymousreply 9February 26, 2025 3:50 PM

Elon. Calling Elon!

by Anonymousreply 10February 26, 2025 3:54 PM

I came here hoping somebody would say that, R10.

by Anonymousreply 11February 26, 2025 3:58 PM

[quote] Imagine being so mentally fucked up that when you're put under anasthesia you think "Ahh, that's better."

And yet there are so many people on DL alone singing the praises of Propofol/getting knocked out when they go in for colonoscopies. Just take a walk over to the "My recent abdominal pain" thread.

by Anonymousreply 12February 26, 2025 4:04 PM

r12, unfortunately in the US most providers won't give you a colonoscopy without general anesthesia.

by Anonymousreply 13February 26, 2025 4:51 PM

[quote] Imagine being so mentally fucked up that when you're put under anasthesia you think "Ahh, that's better."

??? I think EVERYONE experiences that sensation when receiving "anesthesia."

by Anonymousreply 14February 26, 2025 5:07 PM

Propofol (or any other twilight sedation) administered for a colonoscopy is so radically different from Matthew Perry's ketamine abuse that it has no place in the same conversation.

[quote]Matthew Perry Was Given 27 Ketamine Shots Before Death

He coulda shared.

by Anonymousreply 16February 26, 2025 5:17 PM

Why didn't this happen to Keanu Reeves instead?

by Anonymousreply 17February 26, 2025 6:03 PM

Does anyone know enough about ketamine to explain what's happening with Musk?

by Anonymousreply 18February 26, 2025 7:13 PM

MP was 54 when he died. Musk will be 54 in June.

Coincidence and Fate, you know what to do.

by Anonymousreply 19February 26, 2025 7:27 PM

Should his assistants really be charged? There's a huge imbalance of power when a wealthy celebrity is telling you to go score a fuckton of K.

by Anonymousreply 20February 26, 2025 7:34 PM

R20 I don't think so, MP would have found a way otherwise, or found someone else that would have done that job for him if they wouldn't do it. Sadly I think they've already pled, but they weren't driving the bus. MP was. Someone in his life should have told him you need to STOP THIS SHIT or you'll die. But if the colon resection & temp bag didn't stop him, I don't know what else would have.

by Anonymousreply 21February 26, 2025 7:54 PM

Can we hope Elmo has a bit too much one night?

by Anonymousreply 22February 26, 2025 7:57 PM

Why stop at a bit?

by Anonymousreply 23February 26, 2025 7:58 PM

Didn't he undergo surgery because of the issues his opioid addiction gave him? So he quit opioids and went to ketamine instead?

While I do believe he's responsible for his own actions and addictions, these doctors for hire need to lose their license and go to prison.

And I don't feel bad for big-time drug dealers - the Ketamine Queen - to do time either.

by Anonymousreply 24February 26, 2025 8:12 PM

If Elon wants to feel ecstatic in La-La land, he certainly has an alternative. He knows Lady Lindzebelle, and can see her in secret without DJT knowing.

by Anonymousreply 25February 26, 2025 8:15 PM

[quote]If Elon wants to feel ecstatic in La-La land, he certainly has an alternative. He knows Lady Lindzebelle, and can see her in secret without DJT knowing.

There are no secrets in this administration. Elmo is the most transparent druggie of all time. I'm shocked that he hasn't posted a picture of himself shooting up. Nothing else can shock us at this point.

by Anonymousreply 26February 26, 2025 10:23 PM

Die Elon, die.

by Anonymousreply 27February 26, 2025 10:38 PM

I went out with a guy in 1999. After dinner, we went back to his place, made out, and he asked if I wanted "Special K". I thought he meant cereal, and I laughed at him. He told me it was just ketamine - "like a harmless horse tranquilizer". That was the first time I'd heard of it.

To this day, I'm not sure what it's supposed to do sexually. But I now know it killed Mrs. Chanandler Bong.

Ketamine use causes erectile dysfunction in males, so it's a bad idea to include it in a hookup. That guy doesn't sound very smart.

by Anonymousreply 29February 26, 2025 11:17 PM

It separates your mind from your body, so to speak—for a liberated sexual experience, i.e. you could be getting pounded by a 10 inch dick and remain totally unaware of any pain.

by Anonymousreply 30February 26, 2025 11:18 PM

My friend Julie told Elon, "27 shots isn't that many! If you really want to fast-track DOGE, do more!"

by Anonymousreply 31February 26, 2025 11:35 PM

Maybe musk’s doctor can proscribe this

by Anonymousreply 32February 27, 2025 12:42 AM

Dream on.That prick pays people a lot to keep him alive and functioning.

by Anonymousreply 33February 27, 2025 12:53 AM

How much fucking ketamine does one guy need?

That said, my cat seems to be a big fan of it. But we'd never let her have it nine times a day.

by Anonymousreply 34February 27, 2025 1:22 AM

Ketamine isn’t really an anesthetic, per se. It’s a dissociative, where you remain conscience but disconnected from your body.

Psychiatrically, it also causes an increase in neuroplasticity. Basically, that’s a fancy way for saying that it gives people whose brains have ceased developing (so, over the age of about 25) the chance to rewire any maladaptive pathways. There’s also a psychological use where you’re able to be guided through traumatic memories so that you’re able process them without necessarily being overwhelmed by the negative emotions. It has legitimate medical uses, and there’s even a version, the enantiomeric esketamine that’s available and covered by insurance under the name Spravato, which is a nasal spray that’s given in-office and then the patient is monitored for a few hours. The IV form that you get at infusion centers is the racemic form (so both esketamine and its other molecule, arketamine),, which is generally thought to be slightly more effective, but it’s generally not covered, so it’s reserved for self-pay. A friend I did residency with has a ketamine clinic.

Matthew Perry was given WAAAAAY to much. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun drug to use recreationally, but it’s actually very useful therapeutically. But that’s getting an infusion of like 0,5mg/kg once a week for two weeks and then occasional maintenance doses every few months. It’s similar to ECT or TMS in that respect.

by Anonymousreply 35February 27, 2025 1:25 AM

You would think this news would scare Elon Musk enough to cut back on his addiction.

by Anonymousreply 36February 27, 2025 1:36 AM

So much for him touring his book on how he overcame drugs.

by Anonymousreply 37February 27, 2025 1:48 AM

R28 That’s pretty crazy that he thought a horse tranquilizer would be “harmless” for people!

by Anonymousreply 38February 27, 2025 2:03 AM

r21 - Didn't he verbally and physically threaten his sober coach (a lesbian) at one point by pushing her against a wall?

by Anonymousreply 39February 27, 2025 2:16 AM

Perry’s Dr. pleads guilty of in sitcom stars ketamine death. He’s also nominated for Nobel Peace Prize. Good Luck Doc. Really enjoying Matthew Perry being dead-really enjoying.

by Anonymousreply 40July 23, 2025 11:01 PM

I did ketamine for depression through a clinic about 4 years ago and it entailed having a series of 10 treatments over the course of two weeks usually one about every other day. They had different rooms set up with different kinds of furniture like lazy boys and bean bags. I have to just be parked in a lazy boy reclined. During the visit theyd basically overdose you when you go on a trip for a minute and then they let you come down a little bit and then they push a second shot and then once you came down a bit from that they release you to go home.

It really does just disassociate you I was very aware of myself but physically I didn't feel I was still in the room where my body was but instead was traveling through time and space wow the physical world around me just kind of melted away. Sometimes I have a slight panic because I worry about getting back or putting the world back together as I knew it.

I have to say that I have to every treatment I felt absolutely wonderful and once the series was over I felt probably the best I had in my life. Maya free name was quite chaotic and traumatic because my parents and my family are so God damn unstable it's left me with a lot of anxiety and the ketamine really did make a huge difference and also gave me a ton of energy and drive.

by Anonymousreply 41July 23, 2025 11:23 PM

R41, don’t have an urge to do more ketamine now?

by Anonymousreply 42July 23, 2025 11:29 PM

Perry did so much for 12 step programs. So what if he lied about his own sobriety. He helped others and received massive attention-a book deal and televised interviews plus doctors prescribing endless amounts of ketamine-he did so much for 12 step.

by Anonymousreply 43July 23, 2025 11:36 PM

I still miss Matthew. He was so good in the 1997 film ‘’Contact’’ Very convincing.

by Anonymousreply 44July 23, 2025 11:54 PM

R41, “Maya free name”? (I am interested in your story but there are some errors on your post that I can’t figure out.)

by Anonymousreply 45July 24, 2025 1:35 AM

R41 were you on antidepressants when you did the treatment? I want to try it, but am on desvenlafaxine and withdrawal is a bitch

by Anonymousreply 46July 24, 2025 1:55 AM

Is this documentary the one the other Friends were supposed to be making to celebrate Matthew?

by Anonymousreply 47July 24, 2025 3:19 AM

So he didn't even die due to the drugs, but drowning due to being out. So sad. Wondering if he had floaties it would have saved him.

by Anonymousreply 48July 24, 2025 3:22 AM

If the floating was around his neck maybe

Really? I didn’t ask for anesthesia. I guess in CA that’s okay.

I’ve been sober for decades and am frightened of relapsing.

by Anonymousreply 52July 24, 2025 5:03 AM

[quote]R28 He told me it was just ketamine - "like a harmless horse tranquilizer".

Somehow, that’s not reassuring.

by Anonymousreply 53July 24, 2025 5:08 AM

R42. I do want to do it again and they do recommend follow-up treatments like one shot every 6 months but I haven't gone back due to the expense of it. I also did enjoy the experience but I don't really have an urge to do it and in fact before I did it I had I wouldn't say a severe drinking problem but I did drink pretty regularly and a lot and I came out of the treatments having absolutely no desire for alcohol at all and now only rarely drink usually when I go to a concert.

by Anonymousreply 54July 24, 2025 5:45 AM

R44. That was supposed to say my upbringing. I saw the voice to text goes back and changes words as soon as I hit send to indecipherable weirdness.

by Anonymousreply 55July 24, 2025 5:46 AM

R46. No I had only been to prescribed antidepressants twice in my life once when I was a teenager and once is in my late twenties but growing up I'd seen my mom and my little brother put on all sorts of different antidepressants and sris basically were test patients for every new drug and they both had some pretty insane side effects including my mom is completely losing her mind. This made me weary of ever taking drugs myself and so I've always tried to handle my anxiety and depression through kind of just meditation but now I'm in my 40s and open to psychedelics so I've actually been microdosing shrooms and that's also had an amazing effect on my poor battered brain.

by Anonymousreply 56July 24, 2025 5:49 AM

How costly is it, r54? Is this something your PCP or psychiatrist recommends?

by Anonymousreply 57July 24, 2025 5:52 AM

R57. I think it was about $1,200. And it was something I decided to do on my own and I haven't seen a psychiatrist regularly in almost 20 years and I didn't ever talk to my physician about it at all. In fact I kind of felt it was a little shady and that I made the appointment of the clinic and had like a 30-minute assessment before they decided to go ahead with the treatment but honestly I felt I'd read and researched enough about it that it was worth trying and as far as the clinic even though he admitted so that shady it seemed professionally run and competently staffed.

He replaced one addiction for another. And he wasn't only content to lie to everyone around him, he also went on a press tour and lied to the entire world.

by Anonymousreply 64July 24, 2025 11:06 AM

Could he have BEEN any more of a junkie?

by Anonymousreply 65July 24, 2025 11:50 AM

He had part of his colon removed and wore a colostomy bag. That happens with opioid drug users.
