James Woods

by Anonymousreply 1January 8, 2025 7:57 PM

Does Paltrow still live in Brentwood? Did she get out or did her cases of unsold vagina candles in the garage fuel the flames?

by Anonymousreply 2January 8, 2025 8:03 PM

I feel bad for the Brody's. They seem like a nice normal couple.

James who?

by Anonymousreply 3January 8, 2025 8:03 PM

Cameron Mathison from All My Children and now General Hospital.

by Anonymousreply 4January 8, 2025 8:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 9January 8, 2025 8:52 PM

Pacific Palisades is lovely, but they have been prone to wildfires for decades now. This fire was especially out of control, so the odds of your house getting engulfed was dramatically increased.

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2025 8:58 PM

I hope Chalamet’s mansion gets burned to the ground.

by Anonymousreply 11January 8, 2025 9:05 PM

These wildfires seem to be a a yearly occurrence. Why do wealthy people contribute to buy homes in high risk areas?

by Anonymousreply 12January 8, 2025 9:11 PM

Not like these r12

by Anonymousreply 19January 8, 2025 10:08 PM

There was a quite bit of media coverage when Suzanne Somers' house burned down. A news crew was around when she went to see what was left. The tabloids published tons of pictures of her crying in her car.

by Anonymousreply 20January 8, 2025 10:09 PM

The Wise and Foolish Builders

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Gelson's was mentioned by one field reporter a bunch yesterday, R38, but I don't think it's Brednad's. Flames were licking it's back walls.

[quote]These wildfires seem to be a a yearly occurrence. Why do wealthy people contribute to buy homes in high risk areas?

Same reason why these wealthy people continue to build in Florida and other coastal locations hit by hurricanes each year.

EVERYONE'S property insurance and auto insurance will be going up the next few years because of this tragedy. These insurance companies aren't going to be paying out for lost properties and autos without help from every American who buys insurance.

by Anonymousreply 64January 9, 2025 1:14 AM

In a weird way, it's kind of comforting to see that even they aren't protected. It makes them seem less special. No amount of wealth or resources saved them. It's still sad, but the fact they're sharing it makes them seem like everyone else affected (except they have a lot more resources to bounce back, of course, let's not forget that).

CNN — As at least four wildfires rage around Los Angeles, numerous members of the Hollywood community have been impacted, including Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore, Anna Faris and Ricki Lake.

by Anonymousreply 74January 9, 2025 2:10 AM

I wonder how many of the people who lost their home and property were fully insured?

by Anonymousreply 75January 9, 2025 2:35 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the properties or homes were mortgaged, they had to be insured. I believe that's a requirement from every lending institution these days. No ?

by Anonymousreply 76January 9, 2025 2:41 AM

Once the mortgage is paid off it is not. I bet most of the celebrities paid for their property in cash. I guess my point is since insurance companies are more reluctant to cover homes that are in high hurricane or flooding or fire risk zones, they may not want to cover these areas.

by Anonymousreply 77January 9, 2025 2:46 AM

They should reclaim the burned out land & put in bike lanes, outdoor kitchens & gyms (stuff that won't easily catch fire the next time around).

by Anonymousreply 78January 9, 2025 2:55 AM

Cher was on Kimmel last night - he mentioned the fires in his opening, but nothing was said during the interview by either Kimmel or Cher. Just the other day (Jan 5) marked the 27th anniversary of Sonny's tragic death.

What about Dead-and in hell-Ryan O'Neal's beach place?

by Anonymousreply 87January 9, 2025 3:38 AM

[quote] Once the mortgage is paid off it is not.

So I was correct - while the property is mortgaged, they have to have it insured. I knew once it was paid off, it is optional by the homeowner.

As for celebrities, I'm not sure how many plop down cash for their home - why give up all their cash in one shot when they can mortgage through a bank and use the bank's money ? Especially with rates so low over the past few years. Their own money could be earning higher returns in other investments. I've always heard wealthy people (celebrities and non-celebs) never use their own money to buy anything - they always use the bank's money.

by Anonymousreply 92January 9, 2025 4:00 AM

I’m seeing some people on social media enjoying the schadenfreude of all these celebrities losing their houses. On one hand, yes, in many cases these people have the means to keep living and will financially survive it, but the truth is that it is devastating to lose your home (especially in a fire) no matter how much money you have or how lavish it was or wasn’t. Losing your domestic space like that is traumatizing and people shouldn’t be reveling in that.

When this has all settled down it would be nice to have a full and comprehensive list of all the celebrities who have lost home, starting with A list celebs working down towards the Z list.

It is still too early to do this as for now they deserve our thoughts and prayers.

by Anonymousreply 104January 9, 2025 6:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 113January 9, 2025 7:49 AM

They have fire insurance as do all southern Californian residents especially rich ones. Feel bad for the loss of sentimental items of course.

by Anonymousreply 114January 9, 2025 7:53 AM

Why aren't the homes made of brick and cement in California?? I know in Florida due to the hurricanes they have mandates for homes.

by Anonymousreply 115January 9, 2025 7:54 AM

The dumbshits like you will just try to rebuild for the next batch of fires R84.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again & expecting different results.

We're tired of hearing about wildfires in the area.

The rest of the area is just a ticking time bomb anyway.

How many LA area buildings have caught fire in the past half-century compared to other places?

Boo hoo R114 The celebs could've had their sentimental items in other homes/safety deposit boxes instead of this ticking timebomb area.

by Anonymousreply 116January 9, 2025 7:56 AM

R115: Those pesky earthquakes.

by Anonymousreply 119January 9, 2025 8:21 AM

James Woods house was not insured.

Diane Warren lost her beach house. She was live on The View this morning in NYC. I wonder how she felt being on the opposite side of the country as all hell was breaking loose in Cali. She tweeted today: "Warren also reassured her 249K social media followers that the chickens, ducks, goats, cows, and horses living at her rescue ranch 'are okay, which is the most important thing. Stay safe everyone."

by Anonymousreply 120January 9, 2025 8:24 AM

Where are the photos and news stories from the neighborhood emergency shelters? I want to see Paris Hilton sleeping on a mat at the local high school gym. And Diane Warren eating a hot dog and potato chips from a Styrofoam plate. And Ben Affleck wearing some ill-fitting used clothes donated by a local church group,

by Anonymousreply 121January 9, 2025 8:39 AM

r119 Japan also has earthquakes and they use cement. That can't be the reason.

by Anonymousreply 122January 9, 2025 8:46 AM

R91 Cameron mathison says he was born in 1969, so that makes him 55. However, over the years, many sources found documentation he was born in 1964, so that would really make him 60. I have a feeling it's closer to 60 and he shaved off five years when he first got started in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 125January 9, 2025 12:32 PM

Before anyone asks for "proof" from the past 30 years, I don't have them. So let me rephrase: "Many sources have claimed to have had documentation over the past 30 years on Mathison, saying he was born in 1964."

by Anonymousreply 126January 9, 2025 12:38 PM

[quote]My heart aches for all of those celebrities who have lost their homes.

Really ? My heart aches for EVERYONE who has lost their homes. Celebrities, non-celebrities, rich, poor, young, old. It doesn't matter who or where they are in life - these people have lost everything no matter who they are. No amount of fame, money or insurance can bring back what they've really lost.

by Anonymousreply 127January 9, 2025 12:42 PM

A reporter has said on MSNBC private insurance companies have not been renewing or writing new insurance policies for years - they have left California. Most of these homes have insurance through the state of California (The Fair Plan), and it's not going to cover much. She mentioned these people who still have private companies insuring them have 'bare basics' which doesn't cover much. These homeowners now have to document every single thing which they lost in the fire, and see if they are covered for it (with whatever policy they have and with whom).

And as I said in another post yesterday - she reiterated everyone in this country will see their insurance rates rise drastically because of this disaster. It's a real tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 128January 9, 2025 1:00 PM

FAIR Plan = You-shouldn’t-live-here insurance. They have it in other states too like Louisiana that have hurricane risk.

by Anonymousreply 129January 9, 2025 1:35 PM

Home owner’s insurance doesn’t cover wildfire, and a lot of people have had their fire insurance summarily cancelled in recent months and years. Semi-related, my parents had their own insurance cancelled because Farmers thought they saw a loose shingle on their ten year old roof. They live in the South, but not in a disaster prone area. Insurance is just. going to get worse and worse until it’s completely broken.
