BREAKING: SAG Award In-Person Nomination Announcement is CANCELLED!
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 9, 2025 7:20 AM |
They might want to reschedule the Critics Choice Awards this Sunday.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 8, 2025 1:49 PM |
The Critics Choice Awards are being held in Santa Monica, very good chance it may be canceled.
That ceremony needs to die anyway. There are no broadcast critics anymore.

No Brutalist for cast. Rare year where all but certain BP winner is not nominated for Cast.

Last time was 2020 and Nomadland.

[quote]Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role nominees — Pamela Anderson in "The Last Showgirl," Cynthia Erivo in "Wicked," Karla Sofia Gascon in "Emilia Perez," Mikey Madison in "Anora," Demi Moore in "The Substance."
Demi Moore's runway to the Oscar is clearing up, with the Kidman and Jolie snubs here. I think in the Oscar nominations Golden Globe drama winner Fernanda Torress will replace Anderson on the above list.
Sadly, it looks like Marianne Jean-Baptiste's chances at an Oscar nomination have sunk to zero.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 8, 2025 4:03 PM |
JONATHAN BAILEY FOR WICKED! That was supposed to be impossible.
(Best supporting actor)
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 8, 2025 4:03 PM |
Demi is gaining momentum at the right time but she can still get snubbed on Oscar morning. There's always somebody who gets in everywhere except the Oscars. I think she'll likely get a nomination but genre bias and the fact that half of the film belongs to Qualley work against her.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 8, 2025 4:14 PM |
R7: SAG loves to give those WTF nominations. The Sebastian Stan snub really hurts.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 8, 2025 4:15 PM |
I think Pam and Demi will both get in. Fernanda Toress had zero buzz and won nothing prior to the Globes. It was a bizarre choice in hindsight.
Do people even know the movie she was up for?

Pamela! ❤️❤️❤️

I hope Pam or Demi wins. Mikey Madison gave a nothing performance.

Do they still let the AFTRA wing vote for the awards?

Great more cringeworthy PDA from Chalatrashian and Kartrashian. Thanks SAG.

Here's the trailer for her movie.

What’s interesting is the only Best Actress Drama Golden Globe winner who was snubbed at the Oscars was Shirley MacLaine for the Madame movie in 1988.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 8, 2025 4:32 PM |
And that win was in a 3 way tie with Sigourney Weaver and Jodie Foster r17
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 8, 2025 4:36 PM |
It looks like Brody, Culkin, and Saldana are locks. Best Actress is still up in the air.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 8, 2025 4:39 PM |
R17, there's also Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road, but that was the weird year in which she was nominated almost everywhere in Supporting for The Reader, then the Academy voted for that performance in Lead instead.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 8, 2025 4:40 PM |
They nominate Allison Janney for The Diplomat? My impression was that she was pretty hammy.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 8, 2025 4:43 PM |
If both Torres and Gascon get nominated at the Oscars, then it would be the first time since 1976 that two performances in foreign language films were nominated for Best Actress.
In1976, the two nominees were Marie-Christine Barrault in "Cousin Cousine" and Liv Ullmann in "Face to Face."
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 8, 2025 4:44 PM |
Janney can make hamminess artful. She was fabulous in those two episodes of The Diplomat.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 8, 2025 4:52 PM |
The Shock of No Denzel. The Disappointment of No Guy Pearce. But the Joy of Jonathan Bailey.
The SAG nominees for supporting actor:
Jonathan Bailey, WICKED
Yura Borisov, ANORA
Kieran Culkin, A REAL PAIN
Edward Norton, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN
Jeremy Strong, THE APPRENTICE
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 8, 2025 4:56 PM |
Kidman has never won SAG so her missing here isn’t too surprising. She’s the only good thing about Babygirl, imo. I wouldn’t cry if her missing meant Jean Baptiste got in.
Jolie is the one I hope who misses at the Oscars. Maria was ok for a lifetime movie, but fell flat for me.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 8, 2025 4:57 PM |
I think the problem with Marianne Jean Baptiste is that almost none of the SAG or Oscar voters have seen her film. She's been cleaning up with all the critics who make it a point to see everything but she's virtually unknown outside the critics' bubble. Sadly I think she'll be overloaded unless her studio does a massive push which they won't.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 8, 2025 5:03 PM |
I think there will be a lot of people unhappy with Saldana and Culkin in Supporting. I don’t think they’re locks.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 8, 2025 5:07 PM |
I'm nervous for Domingo. Sing Sing is not a strong movie and I think one of the consensus 4 in best actor is getting snubbed for Craig or Stan or Grant.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 8, 2025 5:07 PM |
I finally saw "A Real Pain," and I'm flummoxed by Culkin's sweep so far. To me, his performance was nothing more than a caricature of his performance on "Succession."
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 8, 2025 5:11 PM |
I don’t think Best Actress is up for grabs. I think Demi Moore is a pretty safe bet as long as she is nominated
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 8, 2025 5:15 PM |
She certainly was, R24, plus she looks fantastic as a blonde.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 8, 2025 5:17 PM |
R29, Oscar voters have shown time and again that they don't care about category fraud. They might not be locks on the level of Helen Mirren in The Queen, but they're not going to lose because voters get high-minded about category placement.
R28, Marianne Jean-Baptiste's performance was never going to get nominated by the basic voters from SAG. I still think she has a decent chance for an Oscar nod, especially since Pam Anderson's nomination is the type of SAG choice that Oscar voters will never make.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 8, 2025 5:19 PM |
And nothing of value was lost.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 8, 2025 5:21 PM |
A past clip of Adrien mocking Jamaicans on SNL made the rounds of social media the other day as well as him forcing himself on Halle Berry at the Oscar’s. I don’t think he’s a lock to win by any means.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 8, 2025 5:26 PM |
R34 How do you know they would never make it? They nominated Melissa McCarthy for shitting in a sink. Pam is actually in a serious movie.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 8, 2025 5:27 PM |
I think out of all the nominees Fiennes deserves it.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 8, 2025 5:29 PM |
R36: Somebody in the other thread claimed that Chalamet's camp is behind the Brody attacks. Chalamet has plenty of skeletons in his closet but Brody and his people should bring up the diva and toxic workplace accusations from people who worked on ACU. Both Chalamet and Magnold were called out and Magnold was even accused of physical assault.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 8, 2025 5:37 PM |
Chalamet and Brody will each snipe the other, leading to Fiennes pulling a Binoche and winning both the BAFTA & the Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 8, 2025 5:40 PM |
They should cancel all award shows for good anyway. Silly stuff during serious times. Dated concept anyway to put "stars" up on a pedestal. Get a life people.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 8, 2025 5:43 PM |
MJB is in. Mike Leigh film and he has a pretty solid track record of getting nominations for his films.
I'd say Pam and maybe Cynthia are dropped in favor of Kidman, MJB, or Torres.
People really seem to like The Substance so it feels like Demi is a lock.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 8, 2025 5:52 PM |
R37, because SAG voters are incredibly susceptible to narratives, and "look, that actress from Baywatch everyone thought was terrible is actually in a respectable movie" is the type of thing that SAG voters fall for all the time. Oscar voters aren't totally immune to narratives, but they aren't as shameless as the background actors and influencers who make up SAG.
Thank you, R41. We should all be more like you: a serious, considerate person who understands just how dire these modern times are, and never engages in any sort of mindless diversion. Your inner beauty shines like a beacon for all the world to see. Now fuck off.

Old news. And none where shocking when they happened. And many don't care today.

‘WICKED’ ties the record for the most nominated film in SAG awards history (five nominations).
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 8, 2025 5:57 PM |
Also there is absolutely no way Denzel is not nominated for supporting actor.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 8, 2025 5:58 PM |
I think Ariana and Kieran win Best Supporting.

JLC will milk this as part of her Oscar campaign.
Oscar nominations voting starts tomorrow.

by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 8, 2025 6:20 PM |
[QUOTE] MJB is in. Mike Leigh film and he has a pretty solid track record of getting nominations for his films.
R42 Actually, he doesn't. Go back over 30 years to "Life is Sweet" and just about every one of his films since has secured either lead or supporting acting wins from the major critics groups (LACFA, NSFC, NYFCC). But as far as the Oscars go, only Brenda Bleythn and MJB in "Secrets and Lies" and Imelda Staunton in "Vera Drake" have received nominations. Even Sally Hawkins, who won everything for "Happy Go-Lucky" - including a Golden Globe - was snubbed.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 8, 2025 6:42 PM |
DGA nominations were just announced.
The nominees are Jaques Audiard for "Emila Perez," Sean Baker for "Anora," Edward Berger for "Conclave," Brady Corbet for "The Brutalist," and James Mangold for "A Complete Unknown."
Jon Chu is definitely not getting in at the Oscars. I think one of the above will be dropped for Coralie Fargeat. (My bet would be Mangold.)
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 8, 2025 6:46 PM |
Jane Fonda will receive the SAG Life Achievement Award.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 8, 2025 6:49 PM |
[quote]Even Sally Hawkins, who won everything for "Happy Go-Lucky" - including a Golden Globe - was snubbed.
As was Timothy Spall for "Mr Turner," who should have won that year.

The Oscars can kiss last year's ratings bump goodbye if they don't nominate Wicked for the top awards.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 8, 2025 6:53 PM |
What the fuck is up with all this Complete Unknown love? I thought it made Dylan even less interesting if that’s possible.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 8, 2025 7:00 PM |
That sounds right, R52.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 8, 2025 7:02 PM |
Lady Gaga is still going to win the Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 8, 2025 7:03 PM |
I still think Stan is getting in at the Oscars. Strong got in here so there’s clearly a lot of love for The Apprentice.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 8, 2025 7:06 PM |
I had my doubts about Craig given the film’s subject matter but it looks like he’s in now.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 8, 2025 7:09 PM |
Very true, r51. I no longer have JMB in my top 5.
She is a previous nominee and the the Lead categories usually have a wild card on Oscar morning, but best actress is tight this year.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 8, 2025 7:53 PM |
Well, Tilda is out. That was going to be a stretch anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 8, 2025 7:53 PM |
I'm pissed.
No Angelina for her outstanding performance in 'Maria." Dammit!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 8, 2025 8:03 PM |
What is this bullshit, "Female Actor?" It's so stupid.
Why don't they just say "Actress?"
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 8, 2025 8:05 PM |
Fiennes is long overdue, he's always excellent.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 8, 2025 8:47 PM |
SAG is important but BAFTA is just as important, if not more. Last year, Gladstone got snubbed by BAFTA and we all know what happened next. Stone didn’t deserve a second Oscar and especially not for Poor Things.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 8, 2025 8:53 PM |
The Critics Choice Awards have been moved to January 26th - a terrible date, right in the middle of Sundance
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 8, 2025 8:55 PM |
[QUOTE] JLC nominated for The Last Showgirl? Is this a joke
I’m guessing you haven’t seen it?
If you have, then you can understand how Jamie Lee Curtis got nominated. It's a big, brassy, scene-stealing performance with a big dance number. She’s also a recent SAG/Oscar winner. But this category really has become the mess of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 8, 2025 9:15 PM |
I'm not reading into SAG too much. I still think The Brutalist is winning best picture. It's already a lock for best actor and director.
Anora is too small, Emilia Perez is too divisive, and Wicked is too popcorn-y.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 8, 2025 9:18 PM |
R69, what about Conclave? It's serious but not a slog, it's an acting showcase, it has international appeal, and it seems to be a lock for Best Adapted Screenplay. It even made a decent amount of money. And I think Ralph Fiennes still has a very strong shot at Best Actor, especially if he wins the BAFTA.
If voters don't warm to The Brutalist, Conclave could fit as the consensus choice.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 8, 2025 9:36 PM |
R70: I want Conclave to win everything but Fiennes isn't campaigning and I'm worried about the anti-religious crowd in Hollywood.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 8, 2025 9:44 PM |
R71, he was just at the Palm Springs Film Festival a few days ago, and appeared with Andy and Anderson on New Years Eve. He's not going full Redmayne just yet, but Fiennes is finally on the campaign trail.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 8, 2025 9:51 PM |
Is that what a SAG award looks like close up? The thing looks creepy as shit. Its like a scene from a horror where a serial killer is deciding which mask to wear for tonight's spree.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 8, 2025 10:02 PM |
[quote] the anti-religious crowd in Hollywood
Speaking as a big scary atheist who enjoyed the hell out of Conclave get your head out of your ass r71 - it is not a movie that demands its viewers be fairy-tale-believers to enjoy it
I really want the narrative to shift to Fiennes because he is wildly overdue AND wonderful in the movie, and Brody is insufferable and overrated in the movie to boot
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 8, 2025 10:25 PM |
[quote]because SAG voters are incredibly susceptible to narratives,
And AMPAS isn't?
Kate Winslet spending the awards season crying because she was bullied over being fat. Allison Janney talking about how she wanted to be an ice skater, something she never brought up before and again? Jamie Lee Curtis, NEED I SAY MORE?
The Academy is all about narratives, and who can get the most public sympathy to get the oscar. Unless you want to make the case that Liz Taylor won for Butterfield 8 because it was a superb performance.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 8, 2025 10:33 PM |
AMPAS is actually easier to convince since it's a much smaller group and comprised of the rich and famous (actors branch). SAG is a much larger group of voters to convince and not all rich and famous so more poor, envious people to convince.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 8, 2025 10:56 PM |
R15 but at least we get to see Demi deliver more soft cunt to Kylie Kartrashian Jenntran.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 8, 2025 11:00 PM |
It's sad that DL Favorite Cooper Koch didn't get to announce the nominations today since they cancelled the live event.
We weep for him.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 8, 2025 11:14 PM |
R50, the JLC nomination is only slightly more embarrassing than the Pamela Anderson one. People need to stop with this. The Last Showgirl is a TERRIBLE film. These people are nominating an awards narrative.
I don’t think Pam has a chance at the Oscars. There’s too many also-rans vying for that 5th slot, diluting the vote.
One thing SAG nominators have consistently demonstrated over the years is that they have no taste.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 8, 2025 11:24 PM |
The Jonathan Bailey/Fiyero nomination… oh boy.
I hope they nominated him last year for his stellar work in Fellow Travellers.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 8, 2025 11:26 PM |
The funny thing about The Last Showgirl is that if there’s one bloody performance in that film that should be getting nominated, it’s Dave Bautista. No mention of him anywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 8, 2025 11:28 PM |
Yes but R78, did his dick get nominated? For Best Stunt Work?
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 8, 2025 11:29 PM |
If the Academy awarded Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman with Oscar’s, and Kristin Stewart with a nomination, Pam can get hers. Stop with the snobbery..
No way is Last Showgirl worse than Jackie and Spencer. Two films with godawful lead performances.
Pauline Kael would be championing Pamela Anderson.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | January 8, 2025 11:31 PM |
What about that busboy from the Monsters series? Did he get nominated?
That fandom seems to have moved on. Or maybe they all committed mass suicide over the holidays. (And by “mass,” I mean “a man and his sock puppets.”)
by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 8, 2025 11:32 PM |
OMG. They did NOT nominate Jonathan Bailey last year for Fellow Travellers. Wow.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 8, 2025 11:35 PM |
Ryan Reynolds praises Ariana Grande during his speech at the #nbrawards: “your comedic athleticism and charm is never at the cost of emotional stakes; I have watched your performance over and over again and I have learned from you each and every time […] you are brilliant.”
“If Gene Wilder were alive today, i think he would be in awe of you (..) you are brilliant”
by Anonymous | reply 86 | January 9, 2025 12:07 AM |
R75, AMPAS voters are less susceptible to narratives than SAG. It's not even really close.
Last year Lily Gladstone campaigned on the idea of being the first Native American to win an Oscar and won at SAG, but Oscar voters chose Emma Stone for a second time. SAG went all in on how sad it was that Black Panther died, yet Anthony Hopkins took home the Oscar. The Glenn Close overdue narrative got her a SAG award, and we all know how that one ended.
Narratives do occasionally work at the Oscars (think of the sob stories that won all four acting Oscar two years ago), but not to the extent that they do with the Screen Actors Guild. Every single Oscar winner you mentioned also won at SAG except Elizabeth Taylor, and that's only because the awards didn't exist in 1961. AMPAS is occasionally as susceptible as SAG, but almost never more.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | January 9, 2025 12:57 AM |
R75 No, Elizabeth Taylor should not have won over Deborah Kerr or Shirley MacLaine, but I have always found her Gloria Wandrous to be a strong, enjoyable, movie star performance in a bad movie—and a better winner than what was probably, based on other awards, the true runner-up—Greer Garson’s Eleanor Roosevelt impersonation.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 9, 2025 1:05 AM |
Why do they say "Female Actor?" It's stupid.
Why not say "Actress?"
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 9, 2025 1:37 AM |
They have always used that wording “male/female actor”. Moore has more than just a comeback narrative. She delivers a great performance in a critically acclaimed film.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 9, 2025 2:31 AM |
