What is going on with FB anyway? For the last few months my feed is just flooded with promoted posts, like a ratio of 1 friend post to 9 promoted posts. It’s really just like an ad/sales circular now. Where does one turn this off? I looked through all the settings but couldn’t find anything other than “personalising” the ads, which I don’t think refers to all of the promoted content.

The only way to turn off the ads is to turn off Facebook.

I counted recently and out of the first 20 posts, only one was something that a friend posted.

I really only use it to store and share photos. Maybe Flickr is a better option for that?

Google Photos is great for sharing.

I've had the same experience, though it's eased up in recent days. On election night I couldn't get a single friend's current posts, just ads and "suggested for you"—and friends' posts from days or weeks before.
