What makes Bob Dylan bio pic worthy?

I know his music was influential (if before my time) but I don’t get what makes Bon Dylan worthy of multiple movies… “Complete Unknown,” “I’m Not There,” etc.

What makes his life more dramatic than Joan Baez’s, for instance? Or Janis Joplin’s? No one’s made dramas about them…

The Rose was about Janet Joplin.

Boomers.

But my question is, What is DRAMATIC about his story (other than that he dated Edie Sedgwick)

The movie is based on the book "Dylan Goes Electric." If you read some of the reviews of the book at the link, you'll get a sense of why Dylan's shift from acoustic to electric was considered a dramatic turning point. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know if it succeeds in conveying what the book does.

He’s one of the most influential artists in pop history. He was the first lyricist to cross over into pop writing songs with substance or any real introspective element. The Beatles were immediately obsessed and drastically changed their lyrical direction after discovering Bob. He had a fairly interesting life - his contentious relationship with reporters, the controversy over going electric, his major accident and born again transformation.

Huge Dylan fan and not a fan of the movie, which seemed lifeless, inert.

Blood on the Tracks and Desire are great albums.

[quote]R1 The Rose was about Janet Joplin.

There really aren’t many parallels between the Rose and Joplin, other than that they both sang in a gutsy, rough style, weren’t conventionally pretty, and were bi.

THE ROSE doesn’t go into any detail about the star’s heroin use, while that battle was a major part of Joplin’s adult life.

The biography BURIED ALIVE really is excellent, if anyone’s interested in Joplin’s story:

OP - have you watched many bio-pics?

Few of them are DRAMATIC -- which is why they are mostly shit movies.

R7 Blood on the tracks is one of the most emotionally moving albums I ever heard. And he was well before my time too, but man, writting like that will never age. What a master of words. "Beauty walks a razor's edge, one day I'll make it mine"

Biopics generally suck, but especially musicians'. I can't think of one good one....Amadeus?

the Dylan movie was pretty lifeless. However Ed Norton as Seeger was hilarious. I mean that in a good way.
